It was interesting to see the Greensboro result. They have a couple of transfers who had seen Div-II speed before, so I wasn't sure how that game would play out. Obviously, the score was pretty well out of reach, but maybe....just maybe...this toughened the Pride up a bit.

I don't know about the speed part that MH was faster, maybe a more sound team.  Don't get me wrong the Defense of GC looked lost at times but our DB's kept up well with MH (2 INT's) There weren't any Sacks though but there was alot of missed tackles if it wasn't for the RB the game would have been closer.  MH seemed to play real tired at the end too.  GC got Sacked once in the game.  The INT was a dropped pass. I wouldn't use the word speed maybe talent or fundamentals but not speed.  Then again MH was predicted to finish in 7th place in their conference.

Thanks for your insight, BBallGuy. I'm guessing that you were there, and it's certainly nice to have a first-hand perspective.

There are a lot of expectations of speed when it comes to a scholarship team like Mars Hill, and I can't say for sure whether that facet was a determining factor or not. The scoreboard could very well have been a better reflection of the MHC's talent and fundamentals, as you say. I'll trust what you say there. With some of the Pride's transfers, could that have helped them adjust to playing a level above? (We can hope.)

Also, did the Pride get those two picks while Mars Hill still had it's first-string QB in. I was poring over the box score but couldn't tell when he was subbed out.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Hey fivemicsl
I love the animation at the bottom of your post. Where did you get it? And do they have one  like it with coeds jello wrestling? Or is jello wrestling not a d3 sport? ;D

Mars Hill was just like we were on the Quarterback situation. They kept rotating the QB and we picked off each one of thier QBs once. The only thing that killed us was the running game. We couldnt stop it if I hadnt been for that I think that the game would of been alot closer at the end. The one thing that I know was I was really impressed with the  way that Randal Rankins played at QB for the pride Bacon good as well. The Int was not Rankins fault

Plus, Guilford, which one of the site's gurus has said is no longer a "gimme," makes an appearance against the USAC three times.
Actually, it's four:  Ferrum, Methodist, Averett and Greensboro.

GCG - In your opinion - Who do you think looked better at QB?  Both were under 50% completion - was it bad passes, dropped passes or just great defense?

I guess one interception for the night is better than the six we had last year on opening day . . . but I don't know if losing 32-7 is worse than losing 38-13! !

D3Newbie- Honestly I thought Bacon looked a little better then Rankins.  Wasn't he the one that had a TD that was dropped and another that I thought there could have been had it not been for the no call on the defensive holding.

The offense looked ok but the defense looked horrible.  I felt this was a better 38-13 game..(We spotted 21 points this year in the 1Q) I think we were down 16-0 last year at halftime.

D'oh....you're absolutely right. Can I chalk that mistake up to being tired/bored/zoned out after a full day of work Monday?  ::)

Absolutely.  Since I'm a Quaker alumnus and fan, I've got the schedule memorized.  No reason you should, too.  lol  Peace

I would love the Jello affect, but what you see is what I have.  You can use it, I picked up on a free web site a few years ago. It wasn't copy righted.

Thanks for the link, narch.

Since coach says that no freshmen are starting, does that mean it's pretty much a done deal that Schultz is going to be the starter under center against Guilford?

Oooo, wait, scratch that last comment. I'm still listening to Sypult's remarks, and I'm just getting to the part where he's addressing the QB stuff. I posted a little premature.

Listening to Coach Sypult on the interview, he sounds confident, but hesitant. Which comes from exactly what he said, they have only practiced 2 times this week outside. That can be an issue for the guys to get their heads on straight. In the gym, i know when we were there, we worked in there, it wasnt just grab@$$ time in there. I know the boys worked hard.

As for the QB position, last year, i know Bartee was going to be something special to the monarchs, if he could grow up. Coming from some of the guys down there, he has done exactly that. If this is the case, then the monarchs will be one step closer to another conference championship. With him at the head, and the line and recievers he has to go along with and the backs to go, offense looks greta for the monarchs.

Defensively, the monarchs are always going to do one thing, hit you in the mouth. The guys are real confident and ready to go. I know Northern, gauntlett, farell, and shuford wont let us down with the big hits. They just seemed to keep on coming last year. From some of the guys in camp, Farell looks really good, and Lawerence will be an All- conference performer this year, he has the ability to be an all-american if he will get the looks. I think the team just needs to gel together and once that time comes, they'll get the job done.

To look at the team of the monarchs, i aint sayin this just cuz i graduated from there, but they have the team, once again to win conference. Go get em boys!!

GO MONARCHS!!!!!!
