On another note, it looks like Shenandoah actually put one in the Win column. 20-10 over Wayneburg. Nice job Barnes & Co.!

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Ferrum is stupid for going for it on 4th down and deciding to pass the football on the 1 yard line. They should have stuck to running with pitts. But I guess you seperate a player's heart on the one yard line and the BC Eagles showed more.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a great game and a tough loss for Ferrum. I am really curious. Is Ferrum that good (even after last week) or is BC not as good as their ranking may indicate? Ya gotta love D3 football. Any given week can be full of surprises. As a CNU fan I hope the BC had an off week  ;D.

Ferrum is a great running team. But Bridgewater's offense was out of sync this game. But if your not use to ferrum's running game then they can hurt you. I say that ferrum did the right thing by holding on to the ball and keeping BC off the field. And your right anything can happen in D3 football :o

Great game Ferrum!  CNU and the rest of the USAC will be in trouble if they can't contain the run.  Ferrums passing game is no joke either.. there were several times that their receivers were 10+ behind the BC D.

Keep up the hard work Ferrum!  Good luck the rest of the season.

A few notes..

Passing on 4th and 1.. doesn't make sense.. either kick the field goal and send it to the 2nd OT, pound it in or run outside..

A 41 yard field goal by BC to win the game in OT is something that should not be overlooked.

Almost 500 yards rushing by Ferrum should scare the crap out of the rest of the USAC.. they are GOOD folks.. they have a good shot at repeating.

2 weeks of prep should also not be overlooked.. Ferrum had 2 weeks to look over BC's tapes and prepare.. that may have been a big factor.

Ferrum's D is pretty good.. better than anything BC has faced yet.

BC's offense was off this week.. they started strong but floundered for most of the 2nd qtr.

An onside kick early in the game allowed Ferrum to gain momentum and to hold on to it for most of the game.. BC tried an onside kick and let Ferrum start a scoring drive from their own 45.

Bottom line.. Ferrum is GOOD.. the USA South should be afraid.. very afraid.   If they put the team they put on the field today on the field every week for the rest of the season Ferrum will repeat.

monarchs dominate chowan 31-7 - they went up 17-0 at half, then opened the 2nd half with a 5 play scoring drive, capped off by a nice 26 yard td run by hill - the monarchs drove back down to the chowan 4 on the next posession, but hill fumbled - chowan got on the board on a couple of long jump balls to big receivers, then the monarchs went right back down with another outstanding td run by hill - the monarchs threw the ball a total of 2 times in the second half trying to shorten the game, and matthews touched the ball as many times as hill out of the backfield - no question mc could have put up 50+ points on the braves....err, hawks - they look as bad as they did when they were d3

either chowan is wasting a lot of scholarship dollars or the monarchs have improved tremendously from week 1...i think it's a little of both

good week for the conference, overall - sounds like ferrum should have won the bc game, cnu goes into ssu and gets a win, su pulls out a w and averett wins big...we needed a weekend like this after the first 2

maybe the odac should be afraid of guilford and the usasac should be afraid of averett??? i'm not saying ferrum isn't good, but guilford waxed 'em pretty good, and then got waxed pretty good by averett...anyone who knows me knows i don't play the comparative scores thing, but it's got to get some attention when those teams play within a matter of weeks

this just in...cnu is back

i see a four way race for the usasac title this year...should be fun

Ehhh... I don't know.  Think about it.  Had Ferrum scored on that play, then Ferrum fans (and perhaps even BC's) would be praising the Panther coach for calling a play the BC defense wouldn't/didn't expect.  It just sucks for them that we did expect it and that Desmond Jalloh got a hand on it.

Excellent point.  Llamaguy reminded me of that on our ride home.  Their scouts were "Bridgewater" for 11 or so days of practice.  They certainly knew where to block and run the ball to be successful, and BOY were they.  Phew!

I do think CNU will have the run defense to hold Ferrum in check better than Guilford or Bridgewater did, and Averett has a the passing attack to put more points on the board than Ferrum.  So even with Ferrum playing BC tough, I'd say the USAC is still 1) CNU, 2) Averett and 3) Ferrum.  This close win for BC doesn't take away from them being a top 10 team ... they just didn't perform like one today.  The offense played well for two five-minute periods today (beginning of the first quarter and the beginning the third quarter) ... other than that, they slept.  I wasn't too impressed with Ferrum's defense - that's why I think it was Bridgewater that sort of put it in nuetral when we got 7+ point leads.

Like I said on the ODAC thread, Ferrum's weakness is their secondary.  Guilford took full advantage of it with the type of team they are (pass first).  Bridgewater stuck to their gameplan - run first, run second, pass third.  Got us in trouble on most of the drives.

So I'm not too worried that GC beat FC by more.  GC and BC just had different approaches to beating Ferrum.  They both ended up working.

I couldn't help but notice that in the past two weeks, the USAC has been involved in two big edge-of-your-seat goal line stands with the game on the line. For one I smiled; the other I damn near cried.

Last week, CNU stopped the folks from Texas as they were down at the 1 yard line. Everybody thought the Crusaders would just punch the ball in, but...

This week, Bridgewater repeatedly stops Ferrum's effort to find the endzone, from about 6 inches out. Everybody thought the Panthers would just punch the ball in, but...

Whoever posted that score on our scoreboard -- whichever school -- make sure you note it was in overtime next time. Thanks.

WOW!! What a game!!        :o

Greensboro College 39/Maryville College 36 (OT)

I think that means GC is now tied for first place in the conference . . . right?

When Maryville scored and took a 33-26 lead with only 56 seconds left in the game, I thought it really showed The Pride's character to march back down the field and tie the game with 15 second left. Maybe they are finally learning how to win!!

Hopefully this begins a new era for Greensboro College football. Almost 500 yards total offense and a very tough defense - with another victory (So.Va.) or two (Guilford), they might be considered a conference contender. ?

Also, it really sounds like The Pride just about have their QB situation figured out (25-49-1 for 338 yards and 3 TDs/ 17 rushes for 68 yds) and RB Herbin (17 for 72 and 2 TDs) sounds like a beast!

QUESTION: When is the last time The Pride won two straight?

The Pride are on a Roll ! ! !

Ferrum must have played well. I dont think they have the USASAC sewed up yet, but they seem to be potent offensivly. The two weeks to prepare had to help, and as far as the choice to pass at the end, well, I am not the coach but it seems that the coaches must have liked their chances through the air. I think I would have run, and I think Joe Paterno, Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, Bo Schembeckler, Frank Beamer, and Hank Norton would have run too. (or kicked)

Any word on the Ferrum pass defense? How many passing yds did BC get ?

USASAC begins this week for the Panthers. I think the fact that they did so well against BCwill not bode well for the Hornets.

Lets go Panthers!!
