papi - as you look at those passing numbers, keep in mind that the monarchs have faced guilford, who will pass against everyone they play this season and chowan, which ran the ball about 10 times in the 2nd half because they were down 24 points...i suspect the monarch pass defense will get better as the season progresses

enough about the lady lions, though - the monarchs have the bishops to deal with

here is what i know - the bishops have played mc tough both times they've played, with mc winning 21-20 in 2004 (the bishop's first year as a team) and winning 31-20 last year - that game was close through 3 1/2 quarters before hill broke a huge td run late - they have really matched up well with the monarchs

in 2006,  ncwc seems to be chunking the ball around a lot, especially compared to past seasons - they average 250+ per game through the air and almost 160 per game on the ground - they had a very talented rb the last 2 years in javon williams - he rushed for over 1700 yards and 23 td's in just 16 games - he doesn't seem to be on their roster, though, which is a good thing for monarch fans - they've got a d-lineman who was the defensive roty last year and they've got a talented qb, some solid wr's and a solid secondary...should be a good game, but one i see the monarchs winning - let's say 24 - 13, monarchs

Narch you can't use records to compare teams.  D3Newbie got to it before I did. 2006 0-0.  Records can't be used.

how else do you compare teams???...oh, i see from your next post...passer rating - yeah, i noticed that d3football.com had started to use each team's passer rating  to determine the top 25 and the bcs, massey and sagarin ratings have all followed suite :) - tell me how to compute passer rating and i'll let you use that as a point of reference for qb comparison's, but it hardly tells me anything about the TEAM in my book

Quote from: PrideSportBBallGuy on September 21, 2006, 12:07:27 PMGreensboro Men's Basketball Team is 27-27 against UNCG-Mens.

apples and oranges, my friend...uncg played most of those games vs. gc as a d3 that was just converting from a women's college

Quote from: PrideSportBBallGuy on September 21, 2006, 12:07:27 PMUsing your philosphy we should be able to beat them every other team.  Its a new year. Times change

the more things change, the more they stay the same

and lastly, here are a couple of interesting stats for you...note the per play averages, because i've always thought that was a telling stat:

TOTAL OFFENSE       G  Rush Pass Plays Yards Avg/P TD Yds/G
4. Methodist...........  2   476  203   110   679   6.2  5 339.5
5. Greensboro..........2   145  526   149   671   4.5  7 335.5

TOTAL DEFENSE        G  Rush Pass Plys Yards  Avg  TD Yds/G
5. Methodist...........  2    95  620  146   715  4.9   4 357.5
7. Greensboro..........2   632  190  139   822  5.9   9 411.0
[/quote]

Narch- I never once said Passer Rating.  I believe that was GCGullett.  That I agree with you on.  The point i was making about the two basketball teams was to show how it makes no sense to compare the records.  The best way to determine who is better is on game day, Or look at film and break down the teams, and who each team has played could give an indication.

GC played D-2 Mars Hill (from 01-05 avg 2029.6 ryd a game, sound like they run the ball alot) and and Maryville (who I might add was predicted to finish ahead of GC.)

Methodist- d3/d2 Chowan (they aren't d2 as far as I am concerned) and Guilford (who I might add just lost (by alot) to Averett.  If that is any indication of the game eventually between AU and Methodist then Methodist isn't deserving of 3rd in conference IMO)

From the statistical standpoint, well there is no standpoint.  Eliminate the rushing yards from Mars Hill and passing from Guilford then look at the stats (This I will eliminate those games)

GC   88   338   88   4.840909091   426
MC   263   92   52   6.826923077   355

GC   123   146   66   4.075757576   269
MC   55   217   65   4.184615385   272

MC has the better offense, while GC has the better overall defense.  (Defense trumps a good offense just ask the 2000 Baltimore Ravens). (I know that GC's defense is not a Raven's defense, but when GC was winning games it was because of the defense)  It will be a close game.

AdmiralPapi

I agree with you that it will be a close game...as it nearly always is between MC and GC but as I said before...I believe the football gods will look down on the Monarchs to give them some sort of advantage.
No offense, however, but GC is no longer one of our stepping stones in my opinion.  Teams like CNU, Averett, and Ferrum are teams we expect to be at or near the top so we compare ourselves to them.
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

i agree that nov. 4 will be the ultimate comparison, but your point holds no water - uncg was at one point a d3 institution and is now a d1...historical records as a d3 institution have no bearing on that series because they are much different now - mc and gc have both been d3 their entire football history...those records have historical significance - if you don't think that history has anything to do with the present...well, you're just wrong :)

and while i understand your insistance upon throwing out the chowan and mhc games ('cause it makes the gc stats look better), fact is, they are 1/2 of the body of work we have - at this stage we have no idea how good mhc is - they've beaten a d3 (greensboro), a first year program (brevard) and lost to the defending d1aa national champs...i think the monarchs would be 2-1 against their schedule, as well, so who knows how good they are - you may not consider chowan d2, but they do give athletic scholarships - i suspect chowan is not as good as mhc, but i don't know that - chowan has lost to mc, union (naia) and wcu (d1aa) - i also suspect that guilford is probably equally better than m'ville, but i could be wrong...2-3 games into the season, it's difficult - i wouldn't necessarily disregard those 2 games as being statistically irrelevant (unless, of course, i wanted to slant the statistics to favor my stance :))

we'll get to the lady lions soon enough...the bishops are my concern right now

Do you really think this was necessary? Where's Pat when you need him?

absolutely...someone had to point out the lunacy of picking the pride ahead of the monarchs - if just one pride fan put the crack pipe down or got off  the 'shrooms after reading my post, i've saved a life - are you telling me you're not for saving the lives of your fellow football fans, '85? - if so, i'll have to take away the karma point i just gave you :)

all drug references are made in jest...i don't really think that pridesportbballguy or gcgullet or d3newbie or any other usasac poster is on drugs, even when they make crazy, seemingly drug induced statements
