I wish it wasn't, but sometimes it can be.  Did anyone see Oklahoma and Oregon last week?

No but I believe the officials from that game were suspended.  I know one crew this year was suspened.  I am not sure if it was that game or some other one.

Bad calls are going to happen...everytime a ref throws his flag he's going to be 50% wrong, it's part of the game, and generally the calls even out through the course of the game/season.  GC fans are complaining because they have had 4 TD's called back this season, understandable, I'd be upset too, but unless those flags were thrown after the TD was scored (doubtful) then it was just bad luck that the team happened to score on that play.  Like someone said, a penalty can be called on nearly every play so the fact that there was a penalty called should not seem odd.
With all that said, I have seen games were it definitely seemed the Refs had an agenda.  I watched a basketball game once in which one team shot 63 free throws and the other team shot 7.  So I'm not saying that it doesn't happen but I think a lot of complaining about refs stims from our love for our school/team and our hope that every break goes their way.
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

You're right, they were suspended.

This word was mentioned before, but look up "hermeneutic."  In a nutshell, two (or more) otherwise rational people with good knowledge of a game's rules see the same event, but choose to (sincerely) interpret in the manner that suits their perception of what's right and wrong.  Have you ever seen a call go against the home team and the home crowd starts chanting "bulls***" even thought the television replay clearly shows the referee made the right call?  In their mind, an injustice was done and that, my friends, is just human nature.  :)

D3Newbie

QuoteD3Newbie, I have no idea who "dinged" you.   I sincerely appreciate your passion for Greensboro football and contributions to the board, so I'll restore the karma point for you.

Thanks, Hasanova, for the explanation. Being a newbie, I know I've got lots to learn.

But it is nice to see this board so active (and aggitated). I know I check it every day since there is so little written elsewhere about D3 football. You certainly don't see much in the newspaper.

BTW, I have seen a ref pull his flag way behind a play, hold it close to his leg and wait to see if the runner scored a TD.  When the visiting team's back scored, the ref dropped his flag. I have a feeling that if he did not score the flag would not have been dropped. I was coaching, it was HS and we won anyway, but interesting things do happen.

The 4 TDs called back in the Greensboro games may have been legit calls, I didn't see them, but I would hope the coaches are watching the films and trying to eliminate these penalties. That is also part of todays game. As a Pride fan, I'm just thankful we won!!  ;)

The crews in the OK vs. OR game were suspended for one game and the Instant Replay guy in the booth retired for the rest of this season. So even with Instant Replay, you get controversy and mistakes. Just gives us more to talk about . . . . . ;D

BTW, I took hermeneutics in college . . . .don't remember much, but it's on my transcript . . .  ::)

ROLL PRIDE ! ! !

PrideSportBBallGuy

d3newbie I was at those games with the TD's being called back.  The flags were thrown late on two occasions, (again don't know for sure becuase I was watching the TD's)

I am glad this board is active too. I recently took a personality assessment in this Business Leadership class.  It said I was "Outspoken" among others...me outspoken.  Oh I never would have guessed  :D ;).

Does anyone know when they are going to update those stats from this past weekend's game on the USASAC website.  (I took another assessment on the Hermann's Whole Brain Model that pointed out I am "quanatative." Got to love leadership class.)  I need my numbers before I go mad.  ;D

I had a call in the J.V. game last thursday night that i about got threw out for. The team ran a reverse and we sniffed it out pretty good, but in the backfield my noseguard was being covered the center and the center was hitting him like a boxing match in his kidneys. The ref was looking right at the play and saw him, i mean for god sakes he was laying in front of him. The ref never threw the flag for that, however he did call it for a facemask on us because our kid tried to get him off. Then that same game, we were down by 6 in the fourth quarter with like 3 mins. to play. The team ran first down sweep outside, we hold em. 2nd down they throw an incomplete pass, 3rd down they run a draw and we stop them in the backfield and we call a timeout. 4th down, they complete a pass to the running back, we stop em and should be our ball. The head official hold his hand up signals fourth down, well then we complain and the get another down to play, he said he was keeping up with it and it was 4th down. I went nuts on him and told him he was an idiot and all kinds of things, which was bad in my effort, but hell, 5 downs to play when it could have given us a chance to win the ball game.
We sent that film in and those officials were suspended for 3 games for both calls.

Now to your problem with officials, they are human and they make mistakes, it sucks that a game can be changed by a judgement call, but it happens and thats what they get paid to do. Would you complain if it was 4th down, your team is on the 5 yd line and the other team is crowded in the box so you throw a slant to your inside receiver, but he runs into the official in the middle of the field, would you complain? Oh well, they are part of the playing field. So you can whine about it all you want to, but it will continue to happen, its football.

Narch, the boys didnt look that well saturday according to the stats. Bartee has a great completion percentage, but he has no touchdowns yet and it is the 4th game of the year, he is 30 of 51 passes with 305 yds, and no touchdowns but 5 int's. Gotta have more td's. All of their TD'S have come on the run, now thats not a problem but they only have 6 of them. They have got to put the ball in the endzone when they get to the redzone. What do you see is going on. I know the defense is playin well, and they have their stuff together, does the Offense look confused or what? help me out!

footballjoe

Narch, I have not seen any games this year.  Are the Monarchs using the spread offense?  Seems by the box, they are not and not using using the T.E. for receiving.  What about the big T.E. that hurt his knee last year?  Will he return?  Seems like they need to get the ball on the T.E. dumps when in the redzone.  Are they sticking mostly on the ground seems like they should go downfield more to open up the lanes for Hill.  If they do not stretch the field most teams can defense the run pretty well  and the season will be very short for them.

PrideSportBBallGuy

It will be interesting to see this weekend Grensboro Vs Guilford.  Get to see how good that pass defense of Greensboro really is.  Allowing 91 yards and 29% a game.  We all know how much guilford likes to pass.  It will be the true first test for the defenseive secondary. (Which I think will keep in check.)

PrideSportBBallGuy - I honestly think this might be gone by the end of the first quarter.  I do agree with you, however, I think Greensboro vs Guilford will be an interesting game.   I hope to see you there.

I suspect 280 passing yards by Guilford.
Greensboro around 250.

Boy, do I agree with you here!! Unfortunately, all of Greensboro's games have been home games - with 4 TDs called back in the last two. With both of their wins by one point, refs are fair game. And I'm really looking forward to seeing the officiating on the road ! ! !  :'( :'( :'( ;D >:(

ROLL PRIDE

Why would it be any different the refs for all their games come from the same organization and could just as easily have the game on the road or at home.  In fact, most of the refs in the association will see teams in at least 1 home and away game during the season.

WIN!

Sorry d3newbie I was on my way out the door and posted it not realizing I hadn't finsished it.
This series has yet to have both teams with winning records coming into the game.  I believe this is the closest we have had where both teams getting to that record. (Guilford right at 2-2, but still not a winning record.)
