Thanks goose, i appreciate it. That young man will do great things as a coach somewhere. He knew the game and how to play it well.

good pick on the greensboro game, nice point made. I chose guilford because the stats dont lie, but who knows, they might stop the pass and win the game.

My question to do with guilford is why they are not utilizing micah rushing more. The kid is a phenominal athlete, and was in high school. Albemarle high school produces running backs i guess thats what they are made for. Use him to set up the pass, i mean when averett stopped them passing, shouldnt they have ran the ball more then. spread em out and run like hell with it.

The USASAC men only have 7 members.

Hey bud, check your facts before you post. Last time i checked we had 8.
CNU
Methodist
AU
SU
Ferrum
Gboro
NCWC
Maryville

let shenandoah leave if they don't like taking the beating everyone is giving them. But what does that tell the students there? IMO quitting is the easiest thing you will ever do. Leaving the conference is not trying to make your squad better and it doesnt fix anything.

As for ODU getting a team, yeah it will draw plenty of kids. But you have to understand that the peninsula and southside has so much talent we dont know what to do with it. Hampton teams seem to always win the state championships in football year after year. You think Hampton University doesnt take away from CNU already? how about Maryland even? we just had a denfensive end (Dean Muhtadi) leave CNU to go play there. Sure other schools pull from our recruiting pool but CNU has always found a way to win bottom line.

Goose-

What conference should they join then.  CNU has some great teams playing in the USASAC doesn't benefit them. Unless over night USASAC starts winning National Championships left and right, I don't see that happening for at least another 15 years.

Well I know its been said that CNU will not move conferences without finding a home for everyone, no team will be left high and dry. But CNU isnt going anywhere as far as moving up to D1 or changing conferences. D2 is way out of the question because of how astronomical the travel budgets would be. So I dont think you have to worry about it, CNU will not be going anywhere until the presidents kick us out or there's an offer which the administration couldnt pass up. According to my sources, nothings imminent.

I don't know much about Micah Rushing, and agree if he is that talented they should use him more. They might be able to use him this weekend against Greensboro a little more.

AU did give up 502 yards through the air when they played guilford.  Not really shutting them down.  I did see Guilford only had 29 rushing yards.  Which could be the reason they lost that game. Greensboro's pass defense is tops in the USASAC, and has alot of experience and young talent.  Something I think AU lacks.  It will be closer then I think most people think.

You guys really don't like CNU being in the conference huh? well, tough luck cause CNU is not going anywhere. Besides you guys should thank us for getting football. Our conference gets no respect as it is. CNU is the only team from the USA South to EVER  win  a playoff game. Just think what would happen if we left. The USA south would be known as the conference who gets stomped every year in the playoffs.

I will say that shenandoah represented well in 2004 when the USA south had 2 playoff teams. They lost 21-17. Well fought but, we all know what happened to them since that. The solution for the cellar dwellers of the conference is not to look at CNU and say they need to get out, but instead they should look at themselves and try to find a way to get better. Afterall, if you cant beat CNU then how do you expect to compete at a national level?

HAHAHAHAHA, Greensboro? pass defense? ummm I don't want to be the one to burst your bubble on that one so I'll just let Guilford do that on saturday. And then after that, CNU will clean up the mess left by them and tehn we can talk about your pass defense!

This has gotten way out of hand. Show me exactly where all these people are really wanting CNU out of the conference. Was it this comment?

Quote from: PrideSportBBallGuy on September 26, 2006, 05:43:02 PMCNU may be the best all-around in the conference in terms of all the sports, then why doesn't CNU just leave. Find a different bunch of schools to play around with  :D.
Because that sure doesn't sound like a sweeping endorsement of wanting Christopher Newport out of the conference. In fact, it sounds a lot more like a response to someone else hyping CNU a bit much. But I guess this comment could be taken pretty hostile, what with the smiley face and all.

Or maybe this was the fly-the-USAC-coop comment that put crazylegs on the defensive:

In all honesty I believe CNU probably should move up a notch.  The high school talent in our area is just awesome.  It would be nice to offer scholarships and keep more of them around.
But then again, that was made by a CNU fan. So maybe the rest of the conference should be getting on CNU's case for wanting to bail out. Crazylegs, you might have been pointing the finger at the wrong group of people.

All said and done, people need to get over this. Nobody has denied that CNU has raised the national profile of this conference. And it's unfair to throw a lopsided '05 playoff score into the mix when CNU couldn't even make the playoffs last year. Wesley shredded a lot of teams last season, and the results of Round 1 weren't all that surprising.

Yes, CNU has the advantage of being a very big school situated in an area that is a hotbed of talent. You know what, Mount Union is located in a similar spot and have capitalized on that talent. CNU is too. But while the Captains have been the best USAC team on most years, they aren't this awe-inspiring powerhouse that makes other teams weak in the knees. They've never gone undefeated in the conference, and last year, they showed themselves to be more susceptible than ever.

All this talk of moving conferences or divisions is just silly. Do you really think CNU would leave the beauty of being a top-notch D3 team to spend a couple of years as a mediocre team at a higher level. (Chowan, for example, is still about the worst team in its division....it takes time to become good at a higher level.)

I don't see anyone from the USAC leaving, and especially because CNU is right in my backyard and because I love going to see the Captains play, I sure hope they won't go anywhere.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Nothing I've read on here lately has said they wished CNU would leave...there have been discussions on whether or not CNU should or would move up a division or two.  Personally I think CNU getting football has been a great thing for the USASAC (DIAC, I'm still for bringing back the "dixie" as the name of the conference but that's a different argument  >:( ).  CNU has caused everyone in this conference to step up to the plate and either put up or shut up.  With that said...I still think we might be the conference known as the conference that gets beat every year in the playoffs and until a team from the USASAC can manage to win a couple of games, or maybe make it to the semi's or Stagg bowl then we will continue to not get as much respect as older conferences do.  One victory hasn't exactly made us a juggernaut!

CNU!

Crazylegs- stats back it up.  Greensboro has had one of the top pass defenses in the conference since 2002.  Plus, after 3 games, yes 3 games they alredy have little less then half the amount of interceptions they had last year.  They haven't played a team that is pass dominated and they have that many interceptions give me a break.  I think Guilford and that passing game, of course they are going to get some yards, because that is what they do.  I expect Guilford to be picked off at least 3 maybe 4 times.

Its not like every school in the conference has some senator come and be thier president everyday.  Get off the backs of all the little schools in this conference.  When some national championships besides indoor track :D ;D

Over the lifetime of the schools associated with this conference Methodist is tops because they are 7th in D3 with National Championships won.

CNU has done well for the conference.  I think to help keep the kids, moving up would be a good thing for them.

Goose, thanks.  You got my back! :)

Maryville is a football-only affiliate.  If someone left the USAC Men, then you would need to add a full-time member or affiliates to make the necessary 7 for the Pool A bid.

For all the undisclosed baggage that accompanied Chowan, they gave you a body to count towards the "7".  D3's in that part of the country are rare, and an aggressive expansion posture by the conference, as we have seen with the women, does strengthen the conference.

The USAC has several strong sports.  I believe that the USAC should continue to expand.  My personal interest would be to see the logical annexation/merger with the GSAC.  I believe that is the win/win.   :)
