On the FG that Greensboro kicked to win the game . . .

The ball hit near the top left INSIDE of the left upright. The ball, as footballs tend to do, took a funny bounce to the left, but passed through the INSIDE of the upright.  I was standing on the sideline at the 15 yard line, on the right side and clearly saw the ball on the inside of the upright.  The ball ended up to the left of the uprights, but PAST the uprights. Since the ball hit the INSIDE of the upright, and did not bounce back onto the field, but bounced through the uprights, it was a good field goal. It does not matter where the ball ended up, but whether it passed through the uprights - which it did. The film should show it. The people behind the back of the endzone signalled it as a field goal - but not the refs, and they are the only ones that count. But The Pride should have won it in the first OT . . . . but . . .

On the first play in the first OT the ref calls a CHOP BLOCK? Fifteen yards and out of field goal range (which would have won it at that point).

Second OT . . . on the second play the ref calls holding and moves us out of field goal range again. Pride offense moves it close enough for a 42 yarder that missed. BTW, Quakers played the immaculate game in the OT - no penalties.  ::)

And whoever said the refs' calls were not part of the game wasn't there for the end of this one!!

Should of, could of, would of . . . .game is over. Lessons learned . . . . no more whining :'( and we gotta win the next one without having to depend on a last minute TD drive to tie like we've done twice this year! I've got nothing else to say about this game - we'll get to play them again next year.

===============================================

OK - what's the spread now on the CNU game?    >:(

Hopefully The Pride won't suffer a let down over the way this one ended. Taking out some anger in Virginia is a pretty good idea, but it will take more than that! We've got to stop dropping passes, fumbling the ball and getting INTs returned for TDs ! ! ! ! And the defense has to keep playing the calibre of football they've been playing . . . .

ROLL PRIDE ! ! !

boys, remember, there is no view of a fg like the one the officials have - those angles can play some serious tricks on your eyes, especially if you're wearing those green tinted glasses :)

if there is a chop block or a hold on a play, it's a penalty, regardless of when it's called

I would rather see last drive comebacks (even better if we win).  Then to watch us give up once we get down by 2 TD's.  Something we/I have seen over the last few years :-\

Greensboro's kick to win with 5.2 seconds to go did NOT glance off the side of the left upright and go inside the post.  It hit directly on TOP of the left upright (which is only a 4" diameter circle!) and was, therefore, not good.  That was the game report and that's also what was clearly visible from my vantage point.  The referees made the correct call.  I know the Pride fans wanted it to be good, but it was not.  You're right, however, the game should never have gone to OT.  Guilford should have put it away when they were up 30-16 and also when they had a chance to go up 33-23 with a FG with 3:30 minutes to go.  Whoever on the Guilford staff called that ill-fated fake FG (or at least that's what it appeared to be!) should be kicked throught the uprights!   A ten point lead means the Pride would have had to score twice to win or send it to OT.  It was about a 39-yarder and Quaker kicker Travis Frazier can make those all day long.   Anyway, the Pride is a fine team, but the end of regulation and the two OT's were fair and square.   Guilford played sloppily at times, especially on the two fumbles that allowed Greensboro to start with a safety and then get a TD on a 20-yard drive.   The Pride played well, so I hope no one will diminish that by making a claim about the missed FG attempt.  It was not inside the upright.  I see the Pride continuing to have a good season and I hope they do.

Good to meet you today. Great game.  Guilford should have put it away.  Before they even got a chance to do that FG.  I guess they have no faith in that running because they left way too much time on the clock.  We ended up scoring twice, after that.  I guess Guilford didn't think that being last place in the conference (USASAC) in stopping the run meant anything at all. :-\

Good to meet you too, Pride.  Guilford has some obvious weaknesses in their game, so it forces coaches to make unorthodox choices at times.  I still don't understand the fake FG attempt.  lol  Thanks for chatting today and thanks also for bringing all those canned goods!  What a stack you guys had under your tent.  All it all it was a beautiful day for football - too bad anyone had to lose!  By the way, did you see Dave Odom and Tony Womack today?  Womack's Lamborghini was something to see.

Thanks.  Those cans were just used to get us in to the game.  My group/fraternity rasied 500 cans on itself.  No, I didn't see neither Mr. Odom or Mr. Womack.  Can't see much from the visitor bleachers ;)

Ferrum lost yesterday and now has 3 losses.  Are they going to win the conference now?  They were the conference favorite by many.  Based on last year 3 losses doesn't win the conference.  Or is this conference balanced enough where having 5 losses can still win the conference like at the turn of the century.  My take is the conference is more balanced, but I don't think having 3 losses will win the conference. Someone not picked to win will win.  (AU most likely picked to finish 3rd)

Who exactly had them as the favorite?....and please don't say the coaches poll. I'm certain that the coaches themselves don't put too much stock into who is picked and how the results turn out. And just so we're clear, Don Hansen doesn't count, either.  ;)

I doubt AU will be third. I think CNU is the only team that can beat the Cougars, and CNU certainly has the advantage playing the game at home. But those two teams are Nos. 1 and 2 in the USA South this year. BBallGuy, I know that you've stopped paying much worth to AU, but the fact is that after two killer games against very very tough teams, Averett is having a pretty swell season.

Based on last year 3 losses doesn't win the conference.

And for the record, though it's not last year, Shenandoah won the USAC as a three-loss team in 2004. It all comes down to how a team performs when the conference games start rolling.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Yes, why not use the poll. ;) Yeah I understand the poll as little to no meaning in this conference. (Basketball Polls are usually dead on here) Coaches should have an idea, like the rest of the coaches in this conference:-\.  Just real disappointed that GC was picked last.  I think most of us would agree over the past couple of weeks that GC is not a last place team.  (I won't let that go until the season is over.  Ya'll will be hearing that the whole season)  I think this conference is balanced more then everyone else thinks.  Maybe a 3 loss team can win it. I am still not high on AU.  I was earlier this season,  I just expected them to have closer games against those early out of conference games.  I think CNU would have played closer.  Which is why CNU is still my favorite to win it.  (Just not to win this weekend  ;))

For purposes of discussion, I think you can use ODAC member Guilford as a bit of a barometer for strength in the USASAC.  The Quakers went 3-1 against Ferrum (W 49-35 Home), Methodist (W 27-13 Away), Averett (L 34-54 Away) and Greensboro (W 36-30 2OT Home).  I attended three of the four games and Averett looked the strongest to me.  Guilford has an annoying way of making games they win closer than they should be and making games they lose have a larger final margin than they should have been, but the Cougars impressed me the most.  Mainly, I think AU has a great QB, running game and return men.  Those three elements of their team did us in on Sept. 16.

Eh-You

Not high on AU, but high on Gboro and the "balanced" USA-South? Averett destroyed the team that Gboro just lost to. The only balance I've seen is that of G'boro and Southern Virginia and the odds of you complaining about everything under the sun when the Pride takes a loss.

As for your comment about staying close in non conference games:

The Cougars got blasted by Mt. Union - I'm pretty convinced you either don't know enough about or haven't seen Mt. Union play. The level of football that we jaw back and forth about is like apples and oranges compared to the Purple Raiders. As for the Wesley game - it was a 4 point game in the 4th quarter - #5 (6 now) team in the country - on the road (a long way from home), and the better team pulled away late. I think the Cougars learned a lot from the experiences as is evidenced by their next two games. When Greensboro has the guts to play somebody like Mt. Union or Wesley then run your mouth, until then nothing you say makes any sense b/c Gboro has no out of conference experience for you to draw on. (but let me guess - you can't schedule those guys b/c football officials hate Gboro or some other lame excuse)

I have never pulled for CNU any harder than I will this weekend. You are getting ready to see that this conference is not balanced. And when you come to Danville in 3 weeks you are going to leave a believer. I would love to put a small agreement on the AU / Gboro game. B/T you and I - no posting from the person whose team loses that game from the final whistle until the following Saturday AM. Do you believe in your Lady Lions that much?
To all newbies - don't run your mouth until the team you're pulling for wins the big game. (please refer to Eh-You's karma for more details)

last i checked, the season wasn't over yet...there is still plenty of time for the lady lions to finish last - at this stage, the ONLY thing that gc has shown is that they were better than m'ville on the day they played...it's still entirely possible, maybe even plausible, that gc could lose every remaining conference game and finish in last place - i'm not saying it WILL happen, just that it still could...you seem to be counting a lot of chickens that haven't yet hatched

here's the monarch game story from the fayetteville observer...not sure if parks replacing bartee was a temporary thing to spark the offense or if it was due to injury or if this is a permanent thing, but he did throw the first passing td of the season for the monarchs and his season line is pretty tidy: 6-7, 63 yds, 1 td - it could be a good thing for the monarchs to have a qb platoon, of sorts - florida is doing pretty well with a chris leak/tim tebow combination :)

Narch- last time I checked greensboro has never finished in last place and eveybody seems to think that its going to happen this year.  That is what i have said the whole season. I am not counting my chickens before they hath.

be reminded that SU went from first to last in one year. Don't think those near the top will finish near the top. Many other people are counting those chickens too.

AU playing against Guilford at home gave up over 500 yds through the air.  Only picked off GC 4 times.  We held them to the lowest offensive output plus picked them off 5 times.  You blew them away. Got some lucky breaks.  Most teams would not win giving up that many yards.  I will give you credit.  Then you beat FC.  Good job. (Who also lost to Guilford, by more then what greensboro just did)

As one of the supreme teams in the conference.  I think CNU would have played MU and WC better then AU.  AU is a good team.  Greensboro is better then last year. The series is tied 3-3. (lost to your AU team by 1 last year we finished 7th.)  AU is not the best team in the conference.  CNU is.

and I will take you up on the AU/GC game bit.  Good luck in 3 weeks.

Might I add that GC was the only team to beat SU in 2004 from the USASAC.  We sucked that year.
