Thats why football is the ultimate team sport. Most defensive players do not play offense and vice versa unlike in basketball or baseball. Like you said the team is 3-1 not the defense is 3-1 and the offense 1-3.  A win is a win and as long as CNU keeps getting them Im sure coach K will be just fine with that.

The whole year I have been questioning this two QB sitiuation.  Each do have strengths.  Sometimes I think GC should keep one of them in after a good drive/scoring drive.  Help keep that momentum they built on GC's side not to rely on the other QB to keep it up.  If we can win doing it, my all means continue.  It forces teams to prepare for two QB's IMO.

I've never known a platooning QB system to win any championships, but it is nice to have the ability to switch. However, I agree that it seems just when one QB is getting into his rhythm, he has to sit three series (2 for opponents) before he gets back in. Then he has to try to pick up right where he left off.  I'm not sure about the 'every other series no matter what' choice and like better the idea that whichever one is hot, ride that one for awhile before switching.  :-\ Still, alternating does force teams to prepare for two QBs and one may do better against certain defenses. But it would be nice if one of them would really step up to lead the team this season. IMHO  8)

QuoteSeriously - I live about 2 miles from campus.....whatya need to know? It's an easy drive until you have to decide if you want to cross over on 58 or head up to Petersburg and take 295 to 64. Everyone has a preference. I always choose 58....mostly because of the scenery...much better than a concrete slab of interstate. Have any of you been up here before?

QuoteIf you have a really nice pair of digital headphones, you might be able to hear the game on 99.1 (which is in Gloucester and sometimes hard to pick up - what's up with that?).

QuoteThere's really only two lots, and one of them you have to be a Vice Admiral or higher to get in to!! Best place to park is out front of the Freeman Center, that's off University Place which is a turn off of Warwick Blvd.

Thanks, Goose & CNU85, for the good travel info - that's what I was looking for.
BTW, any recommendations on a can't miss stop to eat?  I usually go for the cheaper hole-in-the-wall places that only locals know about. :P

And thanks for the info on CNU's team. It sounds GC just might match up pretty good against CNU. We won't know until they play the game, but it should be entertaining!!  ;D

The 2004 Stagg Bowl Finalist UMHB made it there with 2 QB's Josh Welch and Andy Padron.

When they (UMHB) reformated the football web page, they took away the links to the archives.  Otherwise I would link to the 2004 Season stats.

And I gave you a karma back...have a good work day.   ;) (What if you are not allowed to look at this web site at work?  Then maybe I shouldn't have?) :-\

CNU guys...when I was stationed in Yorktown we used to go to this sportsbar that had some of the best wings I've ever had...I think it was called RJ's and I believe it was off of Jefferson Ave but it's been a while.  If anyone of you know what I'm talking about let me know if it's still there.
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

CNU85

We all have our favorite local food spots. Goose can add a few, too....here's some to consider:

Seafood - Crab Shack - on the James River Pier.....right next to the James River Bridge (RT 17).
Bill's Seafood....just south on Warwick Blvd on the left. About a mile or so from campus. Downside is that it's a family run business.....no alcohol.

My favorite seafood place is Bonefish Grill - it's owned by Outback. It's expensive - I haven't had a dinner for two for under $100. But it's nice...great bar!!! Head North on Warwick, turn left on Oyster Point...it's on the right at the first light.....about 2-3 miles from campus.

Mexican - can't go wrong with Plaza Azteca......a little north on Warwick Blvd....walking distance from
campus.

One of my favorites (if you GC guys can stomach the CNU sports pictures on the walls) is Schooners  - right there int he CNU Village shops. Great Souvlaki Sticks for an appetizer. It's on campus...so park and enjoy.

Also - in the middle of all this is the Warwick Restaurant. A local favorite for decades.....mostly the crowd is over 60 years old.....but a nice local place.

That should provide a variety of places to eat that are close by. For those coming up Friday and staying in hotels, it all depends where you are staying........tons of restaurants in Newport News (a lot of chains).

I couldn't keep this back any longer.  Here are the Keys to the Game GC vs. CNU

Greensboro

Score First-I have looked at the past records.  GC has the uncanny ability to spot CNU points in that 1Q.  That can't happen, if they want to win.

Control the Clock-Keep the ball in the hands of the offense.  Need to wear down the defense. Get the ball however needed.  Force some TO's, just have the ball much more then CNU

Avoid costly penalties-Most penalties by any team in the conference.  Don't give CNU a short down and distance.  Don't give themselves a long down and distance.  They are playing at CNU noise could be an issue.

CNU

Run the Football- They need to get the run going.  last 2 wins Hilliard put up 120+ yards.  I am thinking 140+ will put them in good shape.

Score Often-offense hasn't been putting up very many points

Don't Turn the Ball Over-GC has been a very good at forcing TO's.  Need the ball to score. (I am expecting 3 forced TO's from GC..less will put CNU in good shape.)

CNU85-Good with the places to eat.  Whats the name of that italian place?  Fast Food Italian, that has drive thru.  Food is decent there.

i guess it was an alright weekend for the USASAC. From the sounds of it, Maryville and NCWC was a great game. 4 OT'S!!! wow, thats pretty awesome. also pretty tiring.

I was impressed with the parks kid from MC, he had a good game and to be a freshman to come in and go 5-6, for 69 yards and 1 TD, thats pretty good if you ask me. Emory and henry are alot better than they were last year. My buddy from high school is playin safety up there and he said it took a while to get used to Coach Montgomery's defensive style, but he said it has paid off.

Great job by averett, pretty impressive win for you guys. You did what you have to against ferrum, and thats stop the running game of Pitts.

Good job CNU, got that monkey off your back finally and won a game in shentel.

I picked a pretty good line this week, i won 3 out of 5 games i chose. and coevered spread well. I had MC by 7, they won by 8. I had CNU by 21, they won by 14. Guilford messed me up, i had them winning by 17, they only won by 6. We should keep tabs on this stuff! lol.

FAZZOLIS!!! REAL ITALAIN FOOD FAST!!!

PrideSportBBallGuy

Goose-

Sounds like you are doing a little advertising for Fazzoli's.  You getting a cut if you send people over there.  Do I tell them Goose13 sent me or CNU.  Do I get some kind of discount. ;)  ;D

If that is the case get me a discount on a hotel room too.

wildbill

If you like BBQ, the County Grill (not far from CNU) is hard to beat.  For just a sandwich, the Subway Station is just across from the CNU campus.

PrideSportBBallGuy

Quiet night it looks like.  Ferrum College set the record for most interceptions in a season in 2005 with 18.  Greensboro has a 11 right now they are on pace to break it this year.  I am expecting 3 against CNU this weekend.  When the best secondary steps onto the field this weekend.

Nova-
What did you think of Greensboro's Secondary this past Saturday.  I don't think I am hyping them up that much to be honest.

AdmiralPapi

Bballguy...while Gboro's secondary maybe the best in the conference...the way you are hyping them up I'm expecting Peyton Manning to state on ESPN that he's glad the Colt's don't have to play the pride  ;D
