Quiet night it looks like.  Ferrum College set the record for most interceptions in a season in 2005 with 18.  Greensboro has a 11 right now they are on pace to break it this year.  I am expecting 3 against CNU this weekend.  When the best secondary steps onto the field this weekend.

Nova-
What did you think of Greensboro's Secondary this past Saturday.  I don't think I am hyping them up that much to be honest.
I was certainly impressed with their tenacity and their athleticism, but .... we still got 360 yards passing and you won't play another team this season that throws the ball 65-70 times a game.  Also keeping in mind that one of the interceptions was in overtime, I think it's unlikely the Pride will maintain that pace the rest of the season.  It was a good, competitive game and that bodes well for the Pride the rest of the season.  By the way, did you see the picture over the game story in Sunday's Greensboro News and Record?  The photographer was in the perfect position to capture the essence of the final play - Barnette in the endzone with the ball extended in his right hand, the Greensboro defender trailing the play by a few yards, the ref signaling TD at the goal and the home crowd going crazy behind them.   I know it wasn't what the Pride fans wanted, but I think you'll have to admit it was a great photograph.

I think they will break the record.  Do I think 5 INT's a game the rest of the way is likely.  Not at all.  Mars Hill had 11 att.  GC picked them off twice.  70 att. the rest of the way is very unlikely.  70 some att. and only 360 yards, I would say is great. IMO

Goose-

Sounds like you are doing a little advertising for Fazzoli's.  You getting a cut if you send people over there.  Do I tell them Goose13 sent me or CNU.  Do I get some kind of discount. ;)  ;D

If that is the case get me a discount on a hotel room too.

They used to be a fine sponsor of CNU athletics, not sure if they still are or not!

And you know they wont get one or any at all when they play Ferrum!!

BBallguy...you have got to remember that you have basically played all home games this season.  Sure, you played at Guilford but what's that 10 miles away, and I'm sure you guys had quite a few fans make the 'journey.'  This weekend is their first true road test and it's gonna be a BIG test.
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

PrideSportBBallGuy

Goose-
You are right about Ferrum.

Papi-
It is a big test. As I outlined in my keys to game.  GC has to score first or prevent CNU from scoring at all in that first quarter.  Or score more then CNU in the first qtr.  CNU at home more times then not have won because they get after teams in that first qtr.  I have looked at games in the past where teams have put up better numbers at CNU.  That has to catch up with them eventually, hopefully this weekend.  GC has played from behind in the 4th qtr alot this year.  Teams in the past may not have made it to the 4th qtr.

Yes it is a big road game for GC. I don't think anyone at GC seems to care if CNU has only lost 1 conference game at CNU.  I see a little bit more heart in this team then I have seen in the past.  Its going to take more then that to scare them away.

admiralpapi - You got me wondering about the distance so I did a mapquest check.  It's only 5.3 miles, but it's a hard 5.3 miles.  Those city streets are tough.  lol  Sorry, PrideBBallguy, but I agree with the admiral, this week is a whole new ballgame.  I believe CNU will be the strongest team you've played and it's a true road game with a large and very partisan crowd.  Your guys might also be a bit more tired after a much longer bus ride.  I hope the Pride does well, but that's just my take.

Greensboro 21 CNU 17-
I called it my upset special in the pick'em.  I am not going to back down from it. I don't think CNU has been tested that much through the air this year. (about half as many att less then the rest of the conference, only 1 int.) Greensboro can put up points. CNU's defense should keep the game close. Greensboro's defense isn't that bad either.  Kept Guilford to lowest first half total of the year.

AU 28 MC 7- AU
has lost some close games to Methodist.  MC doesn't have the offense they had in the past.  Only 28 pts for AU because they are on the road for first time since second week of season.

FC 34 MC 10- Ferrum lost last week to AU.  They bounce back and take it too Maryville.  (That's more of trip then GC to CNU)

prideguy - i know this isn't a grammar board, but reading your posts sometimes drives me nuts...then/than...learn the difference and use the words correctly...they are NOT interchangeable

here are my picks:

cnu 30 - gc 13 - captains are CLEARLY tested having faced one of the toughest schedules in the nation, they're at home, the defense is playing well and they're balanced...they have the second best rb in the conference in hilliard and a very good wr corps

fc 42 - m'ville 17 - the scots won't stop pitts and that running game, despite a sweet new logo set :)

au 24 - mc 17 - the monarch defense will continue to play well, but the offense won't have enough - i'd like to make the "upset special" call, but i've said all year that i thought au was the team to beat in the conference - here is why the monarchs have a chance, though:  they have played the run very well this year, and while they've given up some yardage through the air, let's examine those games/teams - guilford, who pass on everyone, chowan which was down huge and got over 1/2 of their yardage on 2 plays and ehc who is led by a senior qb - they have also given up that yardage because teams simply haven't been able to run on them - i see this being a close game, as most au/mc games have been the last few seasons

eh-you has talked about the special & return teams for the cougars, but i like the monarchs chances if the game is decided by the specials - the monarchs have a better kicker (larkin is the best in the conference, in my opinion) and although alston gets more attention, sands has a higher kor average by 3 yards and a higher pr average by over 3 yards - larkin has also taken over punting duties, and is punting at 37.2 ypp - right now i just HOPE it comes down to special teams, though :)

the orihel kid from rowan is pretty good...i think he provided a pretty good test for the cnu defense

I enjoy driving you nuts.  I am glad that you are checking the grammar.  At least that tells me you are reading the posts ;).  I just type and post.  I guess I will check my posts before I post.  I want to drive you nuts by what I say, not by how I say it. ;D

I think your picks are good picks.

85 attempts vs 154 (most in conference by your boys at Methodist)

We know what happened in the Rowan game  :-\ (Ok apples to oranges GC and Rowan).  They haven't seen the ball through the air that much.

Vogelbach had an article in SI. I am not sure who is better.  (I don't think Vogelbach of Guilford was all that good.  I mean he was picked off 5 times by GC. ;))

If you think the Rowan kid is better, ok but Vogelbach seems to be getting the attention.

i've never seen orihel play, but from what i've heard he's the real deal - i also never said he was better than vogelbach, just that he was pretty good and gave the captains a pretty good test - i think vogelbach is legit, as well, but he gets a lot of attention because of the novelty of what he's doing and the absurdity of the numbers he's putting up...there aren't many qb's who regularly throw the ball 50-60 (or more) times per game - lastly, it wasn't an ARTICLE in si...he was in faces in the crowd...i don't want to diminish the significance of the publicity, but it's about 20-30 words, not an article

PrideSportBBallGuy

Narch-

Ok.  Well I no longer subscribe to SI. I think the SI has become more Feature then Sports talk.   Talk around here was he had article.  Vogelbach 22 TDs and 14 INTs.  He is solid.  I think his WR's are solid too, all big guys.  I think he throws a very catchable ball.  Maybe too catchable 9 of 14 INT's game in two games.

CNULifer

Around the region Pat Cummings summed up CNU pretty well.  The dang SU game was upsetting to watch.  Our D played OK between the twenties and then stepped it up near the goal line.  I personally thought we should have held them to even more 3 and outs.  We mailed the game in until poor Rob Rod got cold cocked on a return.  The poor guy was out before his body stopped spinning and hit the ground.  (one of the hardest hits I've seen in a long time.)  A good example of Inertia and Physics though.  Those who were there all know what it looks like for a 170lb body to get hit by a much larger one. I digress.  CNU then got fired up, stopped SU and then put the game out of reach.

I hope the guys on the CNU squad read this.  DO NOT WAIT FOR ANOTHER TEAM TO BRING THE FIGHT TO YOU.  OPEN THE CAN OF WHOOP @$$ EARLY ON AND KEEP IT OPEN.  You can not afford to sleep walk through the rest of the season.  If you do, your record will look like last years and you will be home for Thanksgiving thinking about how much better you are than the rest of the league and how Averett or Ferrum is playing in the Playoffs.

Get fired up, knock them down and step on them.  Don't let the other team even think for a second that they have a chance.
After Shenandoah that is what everyone is thinking,  "hey maybe we have a shot".  Make an example of GC.  Leave them beaten and bruised.  run up the score.  I don't Care.  Beat them so bad that the rest of the conference doesn't even utter the letters CNU for the fear of unleashing the unholy terror that lives at POMOCO stadium.
