I think the tsunami had a lot to do with that 7-0 score :o :o ;D. Like we have said before we have never played a close game with GC and it doesn't look like the gap is closer either.

And as far as the GC coaching staff goes CNU85 has them figured out down to the tee. I remember their players playing, laughing, joking around, and worst of all the coach had his team take team photos before our first contest in 01. Doesn't really sound like a very classy program to me but that 35-10 drubbing really gave us something to laugh about. ;D ;D 8)

Hasa,

Ever since the first time I saw GC take the field, I sensed they wouldn't be competitive with CNU. The first indication I had was that they came out of the locker room for pregame warmups and their jerseys were hanging out of their pants already. I knew we had them beat......Any coach with even ONE OUNCE of discipline wouldn't allow that. It spreads to how they play as well....aren't they the most penalized team in the league?

Just an observation....when I really think about it, I feel bad for the kids....it's not what they signed up for.
You've got a good point.  The Pride certainly got a lot of penalites against Guilford.  We should have put them away when it was 30-16, but let them get back in the game to force OT.  Maybe they do so well against Guilford because it is a true intracity rivalry game and they really get up for it.   The head coach does set the tone for the way a team performs - before, during and after - they hit the field.  Now in their 10th season of football, Greensboro seemed to peak a few years ago and have regressed a bit.  Part of it, to be sure, is that almost everyone else in the USASAC has improved, but after a while you've got to make fundamental changes if you want to stay competitive.  I don't know Coach Mitchell, but I do know the grumbling has begun.

What does the USASAC think about McMurry having to drop the nickname.  I know SI did a poll of what Native Americans thought about teams having Indian names/mascots.  They said they really didn't care.  I wish I could find that article, but the d3sports coverage in SI is horrible  ;D ;).  (I also felt SI talked alot about nothing so dropped them.)

yup...it was 7-0 at half. And the way the weather was, even Coack K said he felt at the time that the 7 was all that was needed to win the game. I was there!! It rained over 10 inches that day (that's equivalent to 90 inches of snow, if you want to put ranifall in perspective). That rain is what caused the city of Franklin, VA to have a 500 year flood (2nd one in the past few years - hope it's not a trend). The rain was coming down sideways....40+ mph winds....when a player was walking he caused a splash on the field.....behind both benches were lakes at least 2 ft deep.......

to say, yep we were competitivein the first half is a total mis-statement. My 11 grandmothers would have had the same effect in that first half....there were 53 total yards in the first half...CNU had 19.

The weather eased up, into something that you could work with, at halftime. When the third quarter started, so did CNU.

I was drenched...and it was a blast!!!

usasac statistical spotlight:

su came into the gc game with the worst rushing offense in the league at 75 ypg and 1.9 ypc, but rushed for 228 and 3.5

su came into the gc game with the worst rushing defense in the league, giving up over 200 ypg and 4.7 ypc, but gave up only 41 yards on 2.9 ypc

gc did have a bright spot defensively, if you can call it that...brick crowder got 25 tackles with 15 solo's

box score

on to this week's big game...

the mc vs. cnu game is looking like it could be a good one, on paper (or more accurately, on the internet...i don't really print out the stat sheets :))

cnu is the #1 scoring defense in the conference (15.5 ppg), but the monarchs are just behind at 16.5 ppg - mc is the #1 defense in the conference against the run (80.7 ypg allowed) and just shut down the fc run game, while cnu is #3 against the run at 110.2 ypg allowed - cnu has more balance offensively, averaging 142 ypg in the air and 110 ypg on the ground, while the monarchs are a run-heavy offense right now, averaging 94 ypg in the air and 203 ypg on the ground - the game will also feature the two best backs in the league, in my opinion (with all due respect to kyle wilson, who i think is a fine back...just not as good as hill or hilliard) - mike hill has 719 yards and 10 td's on the season and is coming off a 187 yard performance, while roland hilliard has 574 yards and 8 td's and is coming off a 117 yard, 2 td performance (on just 11 carries) - the x factor is the home field advantage and the carry-over from last year - i know the monarchs realize now that they can compete with cnu (i'm not sure that was the case before last year)...does that carry over to pomoco???...

CNU85

interesting stuff, narch.

I think CNU has a few things to either prove or accomplish this week......the first thing is to make up for last year's game and get that taste out of their mouths. the second is to prove that they can stay focused for 60 minutes. Not that they haven't done that this year.....but they were slack for 16-17 minutes on Saturday.

I'll post my prediction shortly before game time....or if you come up for the game I'll tell you personally.

Miami will have 13th starters out against Duke from what I heard.  I wonder what the line will be on that game staurday.  ;D ;)

I don't know what the betting line will be, but I bet the Hurricanes still win.  Duke lost to Richmond 13-0 and a lot of people thought that was their only chance to win in 2006.  There's still the Carolina game, however, which may also become known as "Bunting's Last Stand."

Duke was able to put up some points on FSU and Miami isn't that much better than FSU.. I'm glad to see 13 players out for next week.. it should have been every player that was on the field during the fight however.

Uncle Jessie

Congratulations to the Hornets with the win over GC Saturday. That place has been a house of horrors for SU in the past years. As usual the Defense played great and the offense finally woke up this season. Great job to the special teams as well for a great game. Heres hoping the Hornets can keep this momentum and get a win this Saturday against NCW as its home coming.

I think the Monarchs are going to have to get the run game going early to open up some big plays with the play action game.  I think if we can do that and get a big play or two with the special teams I think we have a chance to pull off the upset.  It's gonna be a tough task though to go into POMOCO and come out with a victory.

BBallguy - even with 13 players out.....it's Duke...I bet the spread will still be 20+

I saw the video of the FIU Miami game at lunch today for the first time. I hope the penalty is more than a 1 gaem suspension. That #19 who was stomping on someone's head should lose his scholarship.

and the guy hitting people by swinging his helmet should be gone too. If I was the coach......I'd be minus several players first thing in the morning. The Alumni can scream all they want....I wouldn't have it!

AdmiralPapi

Kind of reminded me of the 1999 game between MC and Chowan when a brawl broke out after the game, although that wasn't even close to the obsurd things I saw going on in the Miami/FIU game.  I wouldn't be surprised to see some criminal action taken or at least threatened!

The whole thing is bad...the programs and coaches should be smacked HARD! It's back to that lack of discipline issue.......I guess I'm big on it...my dad and step dad were military sgts. I wasn't allowed to get caught doing something I wasn't supposed to.
