Although I do agree it has something to do with discipline, I think more of getting caught up in the moment.  Baseball fights come to mind, either it is roid rage or worrying about contracts and making money. I think getting caught up in the moment.  (Then players come back the next inning hit the batter.)  Some people believe hitting a good hitter then wasting pitches to pitch around.  Teams have had fights in the middle of the year and still won world series.

I think a bit of frustration with Miami plays a big part.  They are/were expected to do good things this year, and it hasn't happen.

Hockey fights are outrageous.  I don't see the refs trying to break them up quickly at all.

Bill McCabe

This was the 3rd fight in their last 7 games for Miami.  That is deplorable.  I hope they are all suspended for the season.

prideguy - there is no comparison with the fiu/um brawl and a baseball fight or a hockey fight

it's rare when a baseball fight becomes more than a glorified wrestling match and those fights are almost pre-ordained and orchestrated...both teams know when it's coming - the rare exception (and a better comparison) would be a guy like juan marichal or delmon young weilding a bat in a fight, but those things happen very infrequently

hockey fights, similarly, are somewhat pre-ordained and the only time a ref stops those fights is when it goes to the ground or when a 3rd player gets involved

it doesn't make it right that these sports have historically had fighting as part of their culture (especially hockey), but it does make it very different and a poor analogy

one of the beautiful things about football is that, historically, the violence has been limited to the field of play and within the parameters of the game

AdmiralPapi

I think the lack of fights in fb games is a good statement to how well football officials keep control of most football games.  Maybe it's the rules or the enforcement of the rules but with a game that has that much violence to have that few fights.  Think of how many fights break out in practice vs how many break out in games.

A great story about the Shenandoah/Greensboro game in this week's Around the Region column coming out later...for those who hadn't heard about it - check it out.

Narch-I wasn't trying to make a direct comparison, more of an indirect.  I heard an NFL Lineman or Linebacker say at one time and I paraphrase....You know the good thing about football its a game where you get to assault someone on sunday and not get arrested for it on monday.

Football is a controlled violent sport. Baseball on the other hand when a fight breaks out there are no pads and helmets to provide a little bit of protection.  (The spikes in baseball are purely metal spikes) Plus Bats and a harder ball are used. (Although rarely used)  Not to mention helmets too. To say you can't compare a fight between baseball and football is saying a fight isn't a fight.

You see pushing and shoving after many plays in football.  It comes down to self-control to whether or not a player starts a fight on the field. Plus there are 100's (a little extreme) of people on the sidelines to help break up a fight. Not like baseball.

I would rather be stuck in the middle of a football fight then a baseball fight.

I wouldn't say most baseball fights are pre-ordained, sometimes all it takes is a single pitch or a broken bat.

What I don't understand is not being brought to court over something clearly illegal not just bad sportmanship.  All fights are not with in the realm of the game.  If they were then play would continue around them.  These criminals should be tried in court for their actions.  end of story.  Heat of battle is BS.  People get upset driving in traffic, does that make violence OK.  They should be tried and sentenced.  I am amazed that any school would want an athlete representing it in that manner.  hey they were young and naive and excited and what ever.  that is no excuse.  Tell that to a girl that gets hit by a boyfriend or husband when things get heated.

I am sick of our society treating this stuff differently b/c of their popular status as whatever.

Kind of like how the Allstar monsters on these boards gang up and smash people with honest opinions that do not agree with them.  Somebody says something interesting and they pop up saying where are your papers. ;) ;D

Just thought I'd share my misery with everyone . . . .  :'(

Not only did The Pride lose a game they should have won . . . .  :'(

But my fantasy league team was ahead by 10 points before Monday Night Football and my opponent had WR Berriman from Chicago left . . . . :-\

And . . . I had QB Grossman from Chicago (top rated QB) . . . if anything ever was a sure thing!! Berriman couldn't outscore Grossman since he's the receiver and Grossman is the QB. Talk about counting my chickens!  ::)

Grossman had three interceptions, two fumbles and no TDs.  His score was -8.8  !!!  :'(

Well, at least the Panthers won . . . sorry, Prideguy . . . .  :P

ROLL PANTHERS ! ! ! !

You're really turning into kind of a crybaby over this, you know that?

Or the night that Robin Ventura charged Nolan Ryan on the mound and Ryan just let him have it.   :D :D :D :D :D

CNU vs MC- CNU will win this one.......if they throw the ball. They will not gain alot of yards on the ground. I do not think however they will win by the spread, but they will win.

AU vs GC- I see AU winning this one by 17 points. They have played tough the past few weeks, and this week i think Kyle wilson will be the factor here. With Parsons, Hughley, and wilson it will be a win for the cougars. GC has never been one to stop the running game, and that showed saturday with brandon lacey and paul diggs. Both of whom had 2 touchdowns a piece in the win saturday.

SU vs NCWC- SU will cover this spread of 13. I think they have some momentum built up now and as mentioned in the above paragraph, the two running backs that SU has look very dangerous. They chose to have a breakout game saturday i guess, now just hope for their sake they turn it on again saturday at home.

here's a great article on mc lb daryl lawrence, who had an outstanding game on saturday with 10 tackles...i meant to post it on friday, but it's better late than never :)

The Monarchs have had some good luck with White Oak guys, I am happy for Daryl. Someone bring that boy some cookies.

Eh-You

I am honestly more concerned about this weekend than any other this year for a few reasons:
1. Gboro is obviously done, so the only way they are successful is if they ruin some else's season
2. They lost to SU which I am afraid may mean that AU overlooks them. Averett won't overlook SU b/c of their history, certainly won't overlook CNU and the Maryville game will be for either school record wins or pool C hopes.
3. They have really good athletes but no discipline, a recipe for terrible records and a few underdog wins
4. Looks like rain could be a factor - Averett's field has seen its share of swamppy mess as the Methodist guys can tell you!

On the bright side  - it really doesn't matter - even if AU loses it will still come down to the CNU game for the pool A bid (unless they were to drop another one) and I don't think Pool C is realistic with 3 losses.
To all newbies - don't run your mouth until the team you're pulling for wins the big game. (please refer to Eh-You's karma for more details)

FYI-Looked this up on the internet:

Miami vs Duke(+17.5) I have seen +18 and Off

If Miami has no discpline then I would expect someone from the team to take a stab at vegas.  ;) ;D

Eh-you.  As much as I dislike AU.  I want the USASAC to have two teams in post season play.
