Papi,

a USCG helo passed over the game.....I waved just in case you hitched a ride to come see the game  ;D ;D

CNU85

I was off on the GC prediction...but I was within 1 pt on the spread!!

CNU85

anybody that UNCW has 4 losses by a COMBINED 10 points!! CNU better not look ahead to the AU game...or they'll get beat!

AdmiralPapi

85...yeah I arranged a fly over and they were supposed to take out the CNU QB but apparently the 50 cal jammed  ;D
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

Hampton U SID

as for one of those who gave NCW one of those tight losses.....they'll be flyin high there.   A tough place to play..hopefully CNU has a good crowd showing for a close game (2.5 hours) which will help them.

Averett leads Greensboro 35-14.

AU just intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD.

5:14 3rd.

OK - I am still a Pride fan.  I am still a Pride fan.  I am still a pride fan.  I'm still a pride fam.
Whew !  Now that that is out of the way . . . . .

WCLeg - This is where, IMO, the coach gave up. It was 21-7 at half. First series of the second half, GC intercepted the ball and then drove about 65 yards to a TD. But on AU's next possession they drove it down the throats of The Pride - running the ball - and the score was 28-14. I think the AU defense was picking up on the GC pattern (Run or throw short on first down, throw short on second down, throw deep on third and long). On second down, with the DBs dropping back four across, the LB undercut the receiver and picked off a pass that should not have been called or thrown - and returned it for a TD.  >:(

Now it was 35-14 with 5:14 left in the third QTR. The coach gave up and the players knew it. He benched the only starting QB left (I think the other starting QB is out for season) and GC had FOUR turnovers in the second half, three for TDs ! ! ! The team was going through the motions. It was painful to watch. I'm wondering what they can rally around from here on out. Attitude and confidence are necessary, even if you have talent. We seem to be missing the first two.  :(

The Pride just have too much talent to keep doing this . . . .at some point over the past several years you have to say, 'maybe, just maybe, this offense doesn't work too well.' Even with some very talented players.  ???

I looked at the stats of last years AU game - GC dominated the stats 2 to 1, but lost 21-20. This year three different QBs had a turnover for a TD.  :-[

I listened to the AU broadcast on the radio until halftime. The announcers joked that they could probably go down on the field and throw a TD pass or run on the GC defense . . . . IMO, if your defense is not too good, you play ball control and keep the ball in the hands of your offense. jmho  :-[

They also commented on how GC only operates out of the shotgun . . . . and questioned why they don't run more or at least run the option since it appears they have a good running QB and some good RBs. They were wondering if GC ever took a direct snap . . . (I think they did once in this game)  ::)

GC had one turnover in the first half . . . . ball tipped and intercepted. End of drive. :'(

KEY TO MY POP WARNER TEAM BEATING GC:  Give the ball to my 10 year-old stud RB Keith L. and let him run it up the middle!    8)

OK - I am still a Pride fan.  I am still a Pride fan.  I am still a pride fan.  I'm still a pride fam.

BTW, CONGRATS TO THE COUGARS FOR SETTING A NEW SCHOOL RECORD FOR TOTAL POINTS ! ! ! ( Which I guess explains the double reverse pass trick play for a TD when they were up by 40 points :-\ )  :o

Lastly, AU is a good team. I think CNU is better. I didn't see anything scary about their team - GC cannot be used as a gauge for anyone the rest of the season. This GC team I saw today (and last week) does not look the same as the team I saw earlier in the year.  :(

Now The Pride plays for PRIDE - hopefully they still have some . . . . . >:(

OK - Now I'm gonna go look at the game stats . . . . I'm not sure why . . . . ???

umm...averett is beating gc 62-21 according to the scoreboard...ouch!

BTW, this was the final score . . . .

It's a good thing I don't drink any more . . . . .  I'm gonna go get me a hot fudge sundae and cry in my fudge.  :'(  :'(   :'(

Newbie...start drinking again! I'll buy!! I know how tough it is to be a fan of a team that is struggling. I've been a Vikings fan since 1969!!! 4 Superbowl LOSSES!!!!!!! ANd that loss in the NFC title game a few years ago to the Falcons is still haunting me!!

CNU85

yippe for me...that last post put me over 200 since I re-instated my screen name.....now I can affect Karma again!!!!!

Life is good.

I have just a few comments to throw into the mix. First off, thanks for the detailed recap D3Newbie. I was toggling between the AU-GC game, the CNU-Meth game, and my own Wabash game. I missed the ends of all three because I had to come into work. After that post of mine, I didn't listen to any more of it. Thanks for filling in some of the blanks.

I'm never going to say that Averett's defense in the best in the land, but I will give them credit for being very smart...and adaptable. I think you nailed it by saying that they picked up on Gboro's patterns and adjusted to it. They did the same thing in the Guilford game, and held the Quakers to only 6 second-half points. Today, Gboro's pass game was held to only 95 yards. I'm impressed.

I disagree about using GC as a baromete beacuse GC played these two teams only 14 days apart. I know it's not an exact science, but it's not like we'd be comparing a game from Week 2 with a game from Week 8. Also, I'm kinda interested/stunned/intrigued that CNU had scored only 7 points this weekend by halftime...at home. I didn't hear all the details, but I kind of feel like there might actually be a chink in that armor. It just makes the Nov. 4 showdown all that much more exciting.

Does Averett have an Internet broadcast? I didn't think they did. Or were you listening to the regular, ol' fashioned radio.  ;)

On another note:
I'm surprised at how one-sided that Wesleyan-Shenandoah game was. This year, the Bishops truely have been the toughest team to get a handle on.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

I know you can do anything with stats, and every game can be different, but I thought this was interesting, at least to me. This was probably just a cleansing process for me . . . now I can move on to the next game.  Anyone know the line on the Ferrum/GC game?  Be nice . . .  ;D

Rushing                      No Gain Loss  Net  TD  Lg   Avg
WILLIAMS, Allen           14  123    0   123  1    26     8.8
CAMPBELL,Brandon       7     35    1       34  0   16     4.9
DAY, Damon                 2     20    0       20  0   17    10.0
BACON, Calvin              5     23    0        23  0     8     4.6
        (This does not include the 17 yards lost on two sacks - passing plays)
This is also without the GC starting RB, Rod Herbin!
These four players had 28 rushes for 200 yards and a 7.1 average. Not a bad case to run the ball. I think we would have even better stats if we ran the option. Even without Herbin: Williams and Campbell are studs!! :o

Passing                         Att-Cmp-Int    Yds  TD   Long   Sack
Team Totals Passing         26-10-2      95    2      28       3

Bacon started the game 0-5 passing and ended up 4-13-1 with 1 TD for the first half.  He started the second half 4-7-1 passing, then was benched for the rest of the half after throwing an interception. Bacon's final stat was 8-20-2 for 75 yards (3.8 per attempt) and averaged 4.6 yards rushing on five carries.  :-\

Here is the first scoring drive on GC's 5th possession in the first half:
13:01 (2nd)
WILLIAMS, Allen rush for 17 yards to the AU44, 1ST DOWN GC
WILLIAMS, Allen rush for 14 yards to the AU30, 1ST DOWN GC
WILLIAMS, Allen rush for 3 yards to the AU27
BACON, Calvin pass complete to HATCHELL, Bobby for 27 yards
     TOUCHDOWN
================================
GREENSBORO COLLEGE 7, AVERETT 14    (11:20)
================================

The runs set up the pass. Sometimes the pass can set up the run, but that does not seem to work as well for GC. When they run, the pass is open more often, instead of forcing passes.

Here is GC's second scoring drive on their first possession of the second half:
14:20 (3rd)
WILLIAMS, Allen rush for 1 yard to the GC29
BACON, Calvin pass complete to BAGAMARY, Tim for 1 yard to the GC30
BACON, Calvin pass incomplete to LEE, Tyrelle,
****PENALTY AU pass interference 15 yards to GC45, 1ST DN GC, NO PLAY.
BACON, Calvin pass incomplete to LEE, Tyrelle
BACON, Calvin pass complete to LOWE, Torrey for 20 yards to AU35,1ST DN
BACON, Calvin pass complete to LOWE, Torrey for 7 yards to the AU28
BACON, Calvin pass incomplete to BAGAMARY, Tim
WILLIAMS, Allen rush for 2 yards to the AU26
WILLIAMS, Allen rush for 26 yards
              TOUCHDOWN - (Drive took nearly 4 minutes off of the clock)
=================================
GREENSBORO COLLEGE 14, AVERETT 21 (10:51)
=================================

Here is GC's third & last scoring drive in the 4th QTR:
12:52 (4th).
CAMPBELL,Brand. rush for 16 yards to the 50 yardline, 1ST DOWN GC
CAMPBELL,Brand. rush for 6 yards to the AU44
CAMPBELL,Brand. rush for 6 yards to the AU38, 1ST DOWN GC
WILLIAMS, Allen rush for 19 yards to the AU19, 1ST DOWN GC
LOWE, Torrey rush for no gain to the AU19
CAMPBELL,Brand. rush for 5 yards to the AU14
McSPARIN, Pete pass incomplete.
McSPARIN, Pete pass complete to LEE, Tyrelle for 14 yards
        TOUCHDOWN
=================================
GREENSBORO COLLEGE 21, AVERETT 49   (9:30)
=================================
The rest of the game is just too painful to relive . . . :(  :-[

Congratulations on making it to the end of this post.  I would give you a karma if I could.  ;D

BTW, Ferrum doesn't run the ball very well, do they?   ::)

RUN, PRIDE, RUN ! ! !

Eh-You

Ok BBall guy, enough silence - I'm letting you out of the bet! I've got to hear your take on a few things.
1. Greensboro's pass defense is blah blah blah. 250 + 4 TDS.
2. Averett's pass defense is blah, blah, blah. 95 YDS
3. Cool stat of the game: Gboro offense = 266 yds and 21 points
                                         AU defense = 170 yds and 21 points
Would have been a pretty good game if the Averett offense wouldn't have played :D

Gotta hear your reaction BBall - and I admire your silence
To all newbies - don't run your mouth until the team you're pulling for wins the big game. (please refer to Eh-You's karma for more details)

Old Fashioned kind - the AU announcers did a pretty good job, but need to mike the color analyst a little better - he was hard to hear.

And, WCLeg - the CNU/GC game was unusual because of the storm. We still tried to force the pass and ended up with something like 5 interceptions. I think that game was totally different than the SU and AU games. We might have gotten over the CNU game, but were obiously overconfident for the SU game and got our butts whipped.

We kind of had some good karma at the beginning of the season, but the last four losses have really hurt. IMO  :(

Great stats, Eh-Ewe!! It was really nasty football out there in perfect football weather. . . .

RUN, PRIDE, RUN ! ! !

Newbie...I'm not sure if GC had good karma at the first of the season or good scheduling.  Lets face it, GC didn't play anybody the first part of the season other than Mars Hill.  I understand a need to build confidence through scheduling but it has got to be expected that once GC hit their conference portion of the schedule, they were going to take their lumps.
