Narch- we had our coaches meeting a week ago and the new talk in North Carolina is that we are trying to adapt the new 5a class system. This is going to happen to get the charlottle schools out of 4a and have them play themselves in their own conference. My school is now 3a with 1380 kids right now, and in two years the talk of the town was we are moving to 4a. Now with this new 5a system they are trying, it would put us staying in 3a which is where we belong.

Pridesports- Yes we do have two champions now. 3a has a champ and 3aa has a champ. Last year a team from our conference, asheville, won the 3aa championship. I think the system ought to make the 3a and the 3aa play each other for one cham, but thats just me.

Monarchs took a tough loss, i thought they had a greta chance and defense played extremely well. I know i picked them to win in the points spread, but thats the only reason was to cover the points, i knew that if they won, it would only be by a few points, not 21 like the spread called for. So i was clearing up any confusion about why i picked methco to loose, and thats it was because of the spread. I think they will do fine against maryville, but i know maryville will be ready to play to avenge the comeback we had on them to win last year. Both teams will be hungry for a win.

WCLegacy the main thing you are failing to realize is that the last two teams to visit Pomoco also left with a goose egg. A safety or a field goal can win a ball game and the Captain D have come up big at home this year.

That's going to change soon enough. I'm not predicting anything crazy - I've said before that CNU is a favorite to win Nov. 4 but a safety or field goal WILL NOT be enough to beat Averett.
To all newbies - don't run your mouth until the team you're pulling for wins the big game. (please refer to Eh-You's karma for more details)

OK, let me explain something. My comments were focused on CNU's offense versus opponents' defenses. I didn't "fail to realize" the point that you made. Your remarks pertained to CNU's defense. We're talking about two sides of the same coin. I don't think I've ever short-changed CNU's defense. They're nothing short of scary good.

Our points aren't mutually exclusive. And I do agree with Eh-You that I don't think CNU will be able to shut out Averett. I expect Averett to put up at least 17 points. Now I'm not going to say that that will be enough to win the game, but I think AU will be able to score on the Captains.

Pomoco is without a doubt one of the most dangerous places in Virginia to play...though I think Salem will always be the toughest.  :)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

I wouldn't go on ranting about forgetting about the linebackers of last year.  Wood led the team in tackles all 4 years he played at CNU.  Thomas Horan is what like 10th on the team in tackles.  I think the LB's have played great this year and hope they keep it up but Horan may be third or fourth best out of this year's LB's.

Yeah, you're right....last year's guys were pretty special. I guess my point is that the LB opsition is SSOOOOO important to a defense, and I was extremely worried that this year would be CNU's biggest challenge in the short history of the program....but the way the new guys have stepped to the plate...it's just plain awesome!! Those LBs are all over the place. As one LB said in the paper...the D-Line has a lot to do with it, especially when he didn't have an O-lineman on him all day!

You can't forget Woods, Morse, and Freeman..........but I have yet to wacth a game and say, "I wish they were back". The guys in there now are taking care of bidness!

Forgot to mention looks like Duke covered the spread against Miami.  From what I heard Duke should have won.  I didn't see the game though.

They were leading and driving when the QB threw a pick that went 98 yards the other way. Typical. The only reason I watch Duke is one our (Havelock) Corners played for them, Temo George. He has graduated...thank God

Eh-you,

why no faith? After watching the cougars beat the pride the way they did I think they will beat CNU, not taking away from the Captins obviously worthy of thier ranking

Everyone keeps saying all CNU needs is a field goal or Safety to win at Pomoco all the while forgeting the Averett Defense/special teams is averaging 5 points a game. point being CNU's offense still will need to score on the cougars Defense

I guess everybody is writting off Averett even though they haven't even taken the field yet against CNU. I hope everyone who has penciled CNU
in as the USAC rep. doesn't have to eat any crow. I know we are the
underdogs and even a lose to CNU won't make this season a bad one.

I just hope Averett is able to show the conference and everyone else
what they really have (18 or 19 Seniors and about the same number in
1st, 2nd and Honorable mention All Conference players from last year) and they only need to get all the "T" crossed and I's Dotted at the same time. As I mentioned on one of the other post earlier, if Averett ever hits full
throttle this year, someone better watch out. I hope Averett and CNU both
go into the Nov 4th game undefeated in the Conference.

Highlander

I agree that the CNU/ AU game on Nov. 4 should be a great game. Yet, I believe it might be unwise for them to overlook any of the other teams from the conference that they still have to play. If we have seen anything this year in the conference it is that anyone can beat anyone else. Not many thought that Maryville would put up 31 on CNU, yet they did( I know that they did not win but it was better than being beat by 51 like last year). Also, I have to like Maryville's chances to end the season againest AU, the past two meetings have been great. close games.

Highlander -  Totally agree with you and you are correct about the AU -
Maryville game. Last year was my first game as a parent at Maryville
(what a beautiful campus) It was a great game that went down to the
final second. From what I saw last year and have read lately, Maryville
is only a slight turn from being one of the top dogs in the conference
going forward. You certainly made CNU think a little.

I don't think anyone on the CNU team or the coaches are pencilling in a W on the AU game......they are pretty adament about 1 week at a time and are not even thinking about AU yet! They're focused on this Saturday right now.

OH  - and I was told I had to be specific about which GC team I was talking about when I responded to NArch's post by saying GC sucks.....

we were mostly talking about football and hoops in the conversation stream.....but I did some research on men's sports at GC .....

Football...we all know their record this year
Soccer - 7-8-1
Tennis 4-11
Baseball...27-16....they don't suck!

I hope that clarifies it for a particular person!  ;D

did ya like that Narch??

WHAT?? A few points about my disagreement:
1. Will it even matter? If AU beats CNU  don't they lock up a Pool A bid? They can put their JV's in and still go to the playoffs
2. If it does matter - kickerdad makes lots of references to wanting to see AU hit on all cylinders - if they have a home game and they have to beat Maryville to go to the playoffs for the first time in history - GAME OVER!! You'll see all cylinders then.
3. It's at home. AU is a completely different animal at home.

I agree about overlooking teams other than CNU but I think @ SU is the upset special. Tough place to play, (AU's never won there), night game, (didn't do so hot @ Greensboro last year under the lights), no telling how freaking cold its going to be in Winchester @ 7:00 pm. If the Maryville game matters THEY HAVE NO CHANCE - if it doesn't matter then IT DOESN'T MATTER.

I will tell you all this.....I am sooooooooooooooo worried about this weekend's game between the Captains and the Bishops. You have no idea how worried I am that CNU could go down and lay an egg!! I certainly do not hope that it happens. The Bishops have a lot of talent and played extremely well at Shenandoah last weekend. They have some talent and I'm very afraid!! If the Captains win, then Ill chime in on all the smack talk goin on for the AU/CNU game!! Im making plans now to hopefully attend the CNU/AU game. Have to make sure things are squared away on the home front first.
