I have to agree with Rikki_Tikki_Tavi ... Averett traveled to Rocky Mount
two weeks ago and for what ever reason (taken NCW for granted, too long of a bus ride that morning, being just plain flat or NCW being good) Averett
walked into a fired up NCW team that had Averett on the ropes until late
in the game.

Let me give you a little time line on the 06 CNU team.

Came into this years season not picked to win the conference.

Big ? mark on how they would ever replace the 3 lbs on defense.

Big ? mark of what the He$$ Kelchner was thinking when he lost 3 stud lbs 2 being All Americans and decided to put nationally powerhouse run teams on the schedule MHB/SU.

Being written off by critics after the embarrassing loss to Rowan.

All the 06 Captains did was go 6-1 against a brutal top heavy schedule ( the first 3 weeks ).  You got people talking about chinks in our armour. I think NCW and the rest of the conference should be more worried about this Captain team more so then years past.  While this Captain team is not as dominate in some areas and since teams don't fear this team like some of our teams in the past.  I personally think that it makes this years team even more dangerous.  The 2 conference losses really hurt the Captain pride and I think game by game this years team goal is to recapture all of what was lost last season and accomplish even more.

Personally, as a GC fan, I'm more worried about Ferrum this week THAN (for you, narch) anyone else!  :P

Do you think Homecoming means anything special to The Pride players? I hope so . . . >:(

You heard it here first - Greensboro will beat Furrem!!  :D

Really have nothing much to say - just bored and waiting for Saturday Night . . . must be nice to talk about your team and a possible post-season game. Must be really nice . . .   :(

They were leading and driving when the QB threw a pick that went 98 yards the other way. Typical. The only reason I watch Duke is one our (Havelock) Corners played for them, Temo George. He has graduated...thank God

abn...it always seemed like Havelock had one of them George boys that could bring the hat every year.

To the CNU guys 54 & 85, I apologize if my post about CNU looking ahead, upset you guys. All I was trying to say that with what I could consider a huge game next week if Averett came to town tied with CNU for the conference, that it would or could be possible for CNU to look ahead and get caught down against NCW. NCW certainly has the talent to  do it
if CNU feel into that pattern.

I am from the Hampton Roads area and have followed CNU since the beginning and have never doubted that they wouldn't be in the hunt for the championship of the conference in any given year. I know what kind of talent they have recruited, especially from that area.

You are right CNU wasn't picked to win the conference this year, but hell, they were only 2 points away from Ferrum. Anybody with common sense would know that CNU would be right there when time for the "fat lady" to sing. I don't think anyone wrote CNU off after losing to Rowan. We certainly didn't write off Averett after getting blown to hell by Mr. Union, (although some folks in the conference thought Averet was crazy and was out of it after the MU game). I wouldn't say your loss to Rowan was embarrassing compared to Averett's loss to MU. Every team gets it pride hurt when they
lose, regardless if it is conference or out of conference. CNU has nothing to
be ashamed of.

Finally one word of caution, don't let the fact that CNU has been dominating the conference with exception of last year, that the rest
of the conference will lay down just because you walk on the field. They are on the same mission as CNU, they are not going to worry about you anymore this year than they have in the past. You are the MU of the USA
South and until you go to the bottom of the well or stay off the mountain
for more than 3 or 4 years, then you will always have that respect by each
team. But don't get big headed like Va Tech fans and expect everyone to worry about you and lay down for you. The mission for everyone else is
to knock you off the mountain. You will be the king until someone does it, continue to be a gracious winner as well as a gracious loser.

Good luck in Rocky Mount and next week is as exciting as everyone thinks
it will be.

I couldn't agree with you mor Kickerdad...other than the part that said I was upset. I agree that CNU will be in trouble if they look past NCW. I also know Coach K and that will not be allowed to happen!

Every game from here on out has me nervous....NCW because they are talented and young and IF CNU does look ahead...ouch.

AU - because that will be for the Pool A bid

Ferrum - because one day they are going to wake up!

Add to all of the above what you were saying about CNU has a huge target on their backs.

But I truly believe one of the main reasons CNU does well every year is that the coaching staff is without a doubt the best in the conference and I'd have to say (with limited exposure to other programs) top to bottom, one of the best in the country. Coach K and his staff will not allow CNU to look ahead or to enter a game unprepared. If CNU gets beat in one of the last 3 games it will be becuase the other team brought the "A" game in every aspect...game prep, making every play, coaching adjustments, etc.

Damn...isn't this fun???? Better than saying, "wait until next year"

HEY!!  Just wait until next year . . . . .  :P

kickerdad, great post. CNU will be in very big trouble if they look past ncwc. Wesleyan has a good defense, but so does cnu. It will not be a high scoring game i dont think. They both like to run the ball.

I think CNU felt like this year they had alot to prove after not winning the conference last year. When we beat them last year though, that team showed alot of class and sportsmanship. CNU is a classy program up there and i think kelchner is a good coach who has team control. I still cannot wait until the matchup with AU and CNU that is going to be  a showdown and if they both win the next week, then it will be to finally see who is the real conference champs. Never have there been one winnner outright for the conference and i truly feel this year, there very well might be just that.

narch

here are my predictions for the week:

fc 38 - gc 27: the panthers will run all over the pride

au 42 - su 17: the cougars will not be caught napping

cnu 24 - ncwc 13: neither will the captains, but ncwc is better than su

mc 24 - m'ville 20: i think this will be a close, exciting game, but the monarchs will pull out another close "w" against the scots...unfortunately, i won't be there...got some things to do with the family, but it should be a great game!

It's good to hear that my money and support is going towards a program that is viewed as a class act...thanks!!!

After the stumble last year and the loss of some very key players, I was nervous about this year and thought that this year would be Kelchner's toughest test in his head coaching career. 3 games to go, but his interim report card shows an A+.
