'nova - i had heard about eghs burning, but didn't realize how complete the devastation was...that situation is going to be a cluster for a while - as someone who watched his house burn down, i feel for those involved

Same here, narch. Our home burned in 1995 and all we saved were some pictures and keepsakes. Fortunately no one was hurt and that was what was most important. Neighbors, friends and strangers rallied around us and amazed us with their love and support. With five kids at home, it was traumatic, but we were determined to see beauty from ashes. It seems much of our immediate family history is now marked either BF or AF (before fire/after fire).  :)

So our prayers are with those at EGHS, even though it wasn't their home, it is still traumatic.

BTW, I took my POP Warner team to Tennessee for regionals the next week after the fire.  :-\  Now that was something!

NOTE: My HS in Georgia burned down about fifteen years after I graduated. All my records were lost. That is why I tell my kids I had perfect attendance and straight A's all through HS!!  ;)

newbie...great stuff - i had my daughter's handprint put on an "agreement" we made regarding dating the day she was born...and i'm going to hold her to it - problem is, she's got a hot mom and her dad's personality...she's going to be a handful, and i've known it for a while...she's 3 1/2, so i've got some time to work things out

on another non-football note, methodist college announced today that they are changing the name to methodist university...if nothing else it will ease the confusion on this board - m'ville can have the mc moniker, and the monarchs are now mu!

One of the first questions that I ask the father of a newborn daughter is how old will she be when the father permits her to date.

The usual answer is, "About 30."

As for Methodist University, that means that you had better not get confused with Southern Methodist University. ;)

Condolences to the family of EGHS!  :(

Uncle Jessie, they would only forfeit the ones the illegal player particiated in, that was all the SU forfeited.  But if they wait too long the NCAA could do more in the way of punishment and sanctions. They rule, just ask them.

Yeah I know that much. Thats what I told that other guy asking a question if SU self imposed the sactions on the NCAA did it. Im wondering what games did he
( The Guilford player) play in? Was it all of them this season or just a few games? I dont know too much about this story really. Pat have you heard anything?

After reading the many messages over on the ODAC site it looks like the kid from Guilford had something to do with his attendance record in class'. I also see he was not much of a factor in the games he played in. I'm always on the side where I don't think the whole team should be punished because of one person. So I don't believe that GC should forfeit any wins. Esp. because he was not a huge factor in the games played. Like last year when SU decided to forfeit the CUA game it just did not sit right with me. I felt bad for the other 100 + players that followed the rules but because the sports administration did not do the work to check up on the transcripts the whole team was punished. SU even said at the time that they did not look at transcripts until conference play starts. I hope that policy changed.  But with every rule broken as in life when someone commits a crime a punishment needs to follow. Punish the school. Not the team. D3 as we all know has no scholarships so the NCAA cant take away that. But D3 schools do look at the dollars like any D1 college does. So one thing they could do is take away a home game from Guilford for every game the kid played in. I bet that would wake up the schools administration department real fast on checking grades and transcripts.

Even though the point we were trying to make is that it shouldn't matter how important the player is (be it the starting QB or a fifth-string OL), you really think that a starting defensive back who finishes the game with six tackles wasn't a big factor?  Hmm.

All i know is what I have read from other people posting messages and many said he was not a factor.  Whos to say if a back up would not had done that as well. Who knows. I really dont care about this Guilford thing at all. I just gave my 2 cents worth on what should happen to Guilford in the future. i just dont think it would be fair to the other players that follow the rules to hurt them as well.

Who knows.

Exactly.

That's why NCAA rules are written on white paper and black ink.

All that i got to say is that it will be tough for AU to beat CNU after thier loss last week. But i think they will do it.

i'm going to let the guilford situation go after this last comment...'nova, please don't take offense, but i think the question needs to be asked...

does anyone think guilford, a school rooted and founded in the quaker tradition, would have forfeited the games rich played in if they weren't in the thick of an odac race?

su self-imposed the forfeit last year because they apparently felt it was the right thing to do given the circumstance that they were in and given the wording of the ncaa bylaws pertaining to the use of an ineligible player - no other school turned them in, and quite honestly, from what i understand after receiving an email from someone who works at su, the infraction probably would have never been known had su not self-reported the incident - i have a lot of respect for su which, quite honestly, i didn't previously have - many on the usasac board hammered su for allowing this to happen last year, but now i think most have the utmost respect for the su program for the steps they took to rectify the situation and do the right thing

i would expect a school like guilford, which has such a history and tradition of honesty and integrity, to acknowledge that they used an ineligible player, knowingly or not, and take the steps to rectify the matter in accordance with ncaa bylaws...i'm afraid that i think the heat of the odac race and the possibility of the first quaker ncaa trip are superceding integrity and clouding judgement - it seems that guilford is simply saying "it's not our fault, so we shouldn't be punished", and it also seems that many on this board and the odac conference take a similar view - i would expect that type of attitude at a big-time athletic factory, but not at a school and in a conference that, in my mind, have to this point been models for all that is right with division 3 athletics

i'm moving on now...hope i haven't offended any guilford or odac fans too badly

p.s. - in case anyone wonders, dion rich did not play against mc, according to the game participation section of the mc/gcq box-score, so a forfeit would not benefit the monarchs

here is a good article on the evolution of the monarch football program from the fayetteville observer today

Sepiku....ritual suicide....no school except SU is going to do it especially if they think they did not do it. You said it......playoff dough. I mean look at what SMU did and they still had to be taken out back and shot behind the ear.

Rectify. Lets see. Toss the kid out of school because I know he knew and did not give a frig. Kill the coach that handles academics along with the toadie in admissions.

That being said......I would do that for (cannot believe I am saying this) even those dreaded Hank Norton Mutants, the Panthers. ;)

I know if Brian Person was still at GC-Q I would be calling for the eviseration and quartering of some admission toads and that registras office.
