Thanks Kickerdad! What a game!! The Cougars are a tough team this year. The first few games of the season opened their eyes about playing with the big dogs. They never gave up today. Also - since you are Kickerdad....which kicker # is your kid?

WC - Hugley is awesome! I couldn't believe CNU played most of the first half without RobRod on him!! They did make the adjustment at halftime and shut down AU's passing game.....but dang....how many TD's does that guy need before you put your All-American on him? I do belive one of Hugley's TDs was against RonRod....the guy can play!

WC - I saw you on the sidelines...this is moot since the game is over and CNU won....were you close to the catch in the ndzone by a CNU player that was ruled out of bounds? Was that the right call? From this biased CNU fan...it looked to me he had the ball, two feet and a knee in.......that it wasn't even close...but it must have been close....any thoughts on it?

Kickerdad and all of the AU faithful,

Congratulations on a breakout season!  It is fun to play "playoff" football in November! :)

Good luck in the off-season and have a good Holiday season, if you don't post again this year.

Completely agree here! I noticed that early on, too, and couldn't believe that the Captains let more than a couple plays go by without sticking Rodriguez on Hughley. Now, am I wrong or does Rodriguez always line up on the same side of the field? That might have something to do with it. Hughley was lining up all over the place and maybe the coaches just didn't want to move Rodiguez around like that.

Actually, that happened almost right in front of me, and gosh that call was a close one!

I was scrambling to line up my camera and got a "click" in right as the catch occurred. Now, I'm not going to be able to swear that when I get the film developed tomorrow that the shot will be in focus, but I'll for sure let you know if it tells me anything. I was looking through the lens and wasn't completely focusing on whether he was in-bounds, sorry to say. I'll keep you posted.

Now, even though that play could possibly be argued, I gotta say that I was really happy with the reffing in today's game. It seemed to be pretty fair, and there wasn't much outcry from fans or coaches about the penalty calls. I thought the refs did very well!

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

mu 31 - gc 14 - mike hill, mike hill and more mike hill...then sprinkle in a little brandon parks - the monarchs will control this game and go 1-0 as methodist university :)

Now, if The Pride are the lady lions, what does that make the Monarchs?  :P

They might want to consider changing the name back to Methodist College . . . .  ;)

OK - I know I'm just enjoying this way too much, but it's not like I've had very many opportunities! I'm gonna gloat for about 15 more minutes, get me a nice banana hot fudge sundae and go celebrate! ;D

narch - I was very impressed with your campus and facilities. It was unusuall to have both school's fans on the same side of the field, but I found your fans to be very agreeable.  My compliments to your fans - someplace else might have been a little more irate to visitors who win at homecoming a game no one thought they would even be able to compete.  8)

I think this game gives GC hope for next year. With so many returning players, key players on both sides of the ball, and hopefully some more good recruits, GC just might make some noise in this conference next year.  :)

OK, now we got to get after NCW next week.  This is our playoff game ! ! ! !  >:(

Whew . . . I was starting to forget how good it felt to win . . . .  :D

WIN, PRIDE, WIN ! ! !

D3Newbie-
Go ahead and gloat its unforunate that i couldn't go down today.  Good win for everybody that won today. A stat of note GC is 2-0 against teams that are listed as MC (There are still references that MU is still MC on the main website, the 50 year anniversary celebration) If that doesn't work GC is 2-0 in conference play in shools that begin with a M.

Its been a rough couple of weeks.  Finally my teams have won so far.

GC
Maryland
Plus went 14-4 on yahoo's pick'em this week  :o (my only gloating this evening.)
Ravens play the struggling Bengals tommorow (should be a good game)

How bout them Captains. I heard the cougars put up a fight but the legacy of Pomoco grew just a little bit more after today. And yeah Pat. coach legg and my boys on D got the message LOUD and clear and shut the cougars out n the second half. Keep the focus because ferrum is now on the Pomoco clock.

Good game AU u guys have cme a long way since 2001.

Wow is all I have to say  :'( ....While I was off-shore fishing in a tournament and getting my butt beat (it was chock out there) I was thinking, dang it I wish I was at MC/MU's homecoming....but after placing in the tournament and reading what when on in Fayetteville, I'm glad I was out on Mother Ocean as rough as it might have been.
Narch, what happened?  Hopefully the guys haven't packed it in for the season!
BBallguy...I still owe you that drink so if your ever my way let me know!

Congrats to CNU...sounds like it was a good game!!

CNU 85,

My son is #39 (Kicked extra points and the first field goal) He was 2nd team all conference last year, but has struggled this year. Having problems with his stride and some hip issues. Hopefully all that will be worked out during the off season and he will be back on track next year.

Sorry, one day I will figure out how to do the quotes on this system.

My son is #85, he kicked the extra points and the 1st field goal. He was 2nd team all conference last year, but has struggled this year with his stride and some hip problems. Hopefully he will have these issues worked out over  the off season and get back on track next year. Word is he may have to have some minor hip surgery, not sure yet. Will let the pro's take a look at it after the season.

Quotes from Jennifer Williams' piece in the daily press.

"The game came down to kickoff returns and trick plays, and I guess you just hate to lose that way because we were the better team," said Averett coach Mike Dunlevy.

"We shot ourselves in the foot," said Cougars quarterback Todd Parsons. "We stopped ourselves. They didn't stop us."

*******
Wow- sour grapes or what - there were a few trick plays on both sides....not enough in my opinion to say that it made the difference in the game. G. Jones 67 yd TD run wasn't a trick play. He lined up at QB and ran up the middle. If that's considered a trick play, then AU wasn't watching game films! In fact, I'd have to say that more often than not, when CNU ran a trick play it didn't work. In that aspect of the game I would say Kelchner made some bonehead moves....see my earlier post. When your punter runs out on the field and he's wearing #8, EVERYONE in the stands knew we weren't punting. And, by the way, a few of those plays backfired, including a huge sack that gave AU the ball deep in CNU territory! Ummm...Throw the ball away!!

NO WAY was AU the better team yesterday! NO WAY! The teams were equal until halftime. CNU dominated after that!

AU was stopped cold in the second half...CNU allowed only 112 yards in the second half. If the AU QB (who is very good) wants to not give credit to the guys that beat him all over the field in the second half...well go ahead....they'll remember it next year in Danville and take it out on whomever the QB is in that game to show them what a real beating is like.

WCLegacy - let me know what the film shows, if anything.....I know it doesn't matter, but it would be nice to let the kid know he made superb catch and it was good! I, too thought the reffing was ok....one excpetion -  the guy in the white hat allowed too much holding, on both sides.....I saw guys running past O-lineman with jerseys stretched all over the place...no call. The other guys did call a good game and worked together.

HMMM   If my memory is correct and I think it is because I have only seen 2 Wesley games this year is that Averett threw a feal flicker against Wesley which kept them in the game... sort of !!!
