You only tie for the title if CNU wins and you defeat a tought maryville squad next week.

NO WAY was AU the better team yesterday! NO WAY! The teams were equal until halftime. CNU dominated after that!

AU was stopped cold in the second half...CNU allowed only 112 yards in the second half. If the AU QB (who is very good) wants to not give credit to the guys that beat him all over the field in the second half...well go ahead....they'll remember it next year in Danville and take it out on whomever the QB is in that game to show them what a real beating is like.

I'm kind of bummed to hear that the AU coach and quarterback didn't give CNU credit for a nice win. Both teams did play their hearts out, and I didn't think trick plays were a factor at all. CNU did do very well on special teams, which left them with some key field position on several drives.

I disagree with you CNU85 in saying that CNU dominated the second half. The Captains certainly played better, but until a minute left in the game, they had scored only 6 points after halftime. Neither AU no CNU seemed like the same teams once they came out of the locker rooms. Defense definitely took over in the second half.

I going to post some pics of the game, maybe under the site's phlogging section.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Seems that there were great games all over the USAC this weekend. I would have liked to see the showdown between CNU/ AU. Both of these teams have good players and seem to be well coached. I believe that everyone in the conference should thank CNU for setting the bar high for everyone. To me it has caused the level of competition in the conference to increase. There are several good teams. Ralph mentioned to the AU fans that it is great to see "playoff" football in November, to me that is how  the final week of the season seems to be setting up, with CNU, AU, NCWC, and Maryville all having a chance to be named at least conference co- champions, granted it is much harder for NCWC and Maryville. I will however stick by my statement that I have to like Maryville' s chances at winning at Averett, yet this should really turn into a great game just like CNU/ AU.

I'm in the process of setting next week's spreads for the pick-ems, and I came across this interesting juxtoposition.

2005
Ferrum beats NC Wesleyan 63-28

2006
Wesleyan beats Ferrum 55-14

Hmmmm, think someone was looking for payback?  :)

Funny how Eh-You seems to have lost access to a computer all of a sudden, huh?  Well, then again, Danville isn't that far from Ferrum, so maybe he's been washing his drawers in the nearest stream since Saturday afternoon.

Quotes from Jennifer Williams' piece in the daily press.

"The game came down to kickoff returns and trick plays, and I guess you just hate to lose that way because we were the better team," said Averett coach Mike Dunlevy.

"We shot ourselves in the foot," said Cougars quarterback Todd Parsons. "We stopped ourselves. They didn't stop us."

*******
Wow- sour grapes or what - there were a few trick plays on both sides....not enough in my opinion to say that it made the difference in the game. G. Jones 67 yd TD run wasn't a trick play. He lined up at QB and ran up the middle. If that's considered a trick play, then AU wasn't watching game films! In fact, I'd have to say that more often than not, when CNU ran a trick play it didn't work. In that aspect of the game I would say Kelchner made some bonehead moves....see my earlier post. When your punter runs out on the field and he's wearing #8, EVERYONE in the stands knew we weren't punting. And, by the way, a few of those plays backfired, including a huge sack that gave AU the ball deep in CNU territory! Ummm...Throw the ball away!!

WCLegacy - let me know what the film shows, if anything.....I know it doesn't matter, but it would be nice to let the kid know he made superb catch and it was good! I, too thought the reffing was ok....one excpetion -  the guy in the white hat allowed too much holding, on both sides.....I saw guys running past O-lineman with jerseys stretched all over the place...no call. The other guys did call a good game and worked together.

85, do me a favor and let me know which article you saw these comments in. I looked up the Daily Press online and read the one article on line by this lady and didn't see those comments in that particular ariticle.

I ask for the information because I was concerned about what was said but I don't believe Dunlevy talks like that. I went to the web site of the Danville Register Bee which is the newsaper in Danville (where Averett is located) and there was nothing said like that in his quotes to them.

So if you would please le me know which article and which paper. I think the comments in the Danville Register Bee pretty much summed up the truth of the game. I also think the CNU coachs comments in the Daily Press are very important.

Regarding the juicing up early in the morning........I WISH...

Good luck against Ferrum althought I will be pulling for you to lose. But I won't be putting any money on Ferrum. I think we are going to have our hands full against Maryville, they seem to be scoring at will against everyone the last several weeks.

He did kickerdad!! It was in sports, but she writes a Notebook as well as a game story on game day and it was in there. They may not post that on their website, but I read this morning and about fell out of my recliner!

WC - what is the link to the pictures....I have tried all night to click on Photo Galaries on the D3Sports.com home page and keep getting nothing.

Sorry didn't get over to your tail gate party, a friend of ours whose daughter plays field hockey for CNU went to the game with us and she directed me to the "N" lot and after I got there and got set up, I wasn't sure which way to walk to get to you. Plus I wasn't expecting that cold wind and all I thought about was staying warm.

I would like to meet you and 85 some day, maybe next year we can connect in Danville.

Hey GCGullet, read this and tell me what it says....

Hendricks said the new name recognizes the school's ties to its past and looks to the future.

"... From this day forward, our institution shall be named Methodist University, a name that in today's use of language more accurately signals who we are and what we do," he said.

Thanks for the info, I will try to find a Daily Press tomorrow from one of the mini marts. I am like you, that doesn't sound like Dunlevy........However if he did make those comments, I would have trouble agreeing. I didn't see a lot of trick plays (out of the ordinary) from either team. Everyone tries a fake punt, end around, double reverse,
half back option, etc., etc., so not sure what he saw that the crowd didn't see.

Rikki_Tikki_Tavi

Yeah that's legal. Did know a name change could officially become legal though. Ill take the word of the president anyday. But thanks for the insight.

PrideFan1986

either way it was a great boost of confidence for the pride with that win, to be honest with yall other than the tournovers that is the best that I have seen the pride pay all yaer and now i am already looking foward to next season and what is to come but now, our focus has shifted towards the game next Sat. against the Bishops

Rikki_Tikki_Tavi

Where is that game at next week? I hate to say it, but I think you guys might take a beating on that one. They are tough to handle and are a good good football team. If all those guys stay together next season, there's your preseason No. 1 right there.
