congrats to cnu on a great season...sorry it ended the way it did, but you guys continue to be the class of the usasac - hopefully the monarchs can push for a title next year...there is a lot of talent coming back!

Great season, Captains! Despite the tough loss, you did the USA South proud in the post-season.

Llama and Kid: Thanks for bringing Stone Station to Newport News. It was good to meet both of you guys!

My photos of the game are available for anyone who wants to check them out:

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

It's not official yet, but I've been told Guilford will open at Southern Virginia next year (instead of Ferrum) and will play Methodist in Fayetteville for the 2nd year in a row.  For several years now, the Quakers have been on an odd schedule of four home games one year and six the next.  This tentative schedule is an attempt to equalize the slate at five home and five away each season.

Sounds like it was one heck of a game!! It's a shame the Captains didn't come out on top.  Congrats on a great season, certainly nothing to hang your heads about!

With 43% of the precincts reporting, the president cup is still too close to call. (Ok CNU has a large lead so it isn't so close, I just felt like saying that) Although I think the next two precincts WBB and MBB should seal it for them.

CNU                       41.0
Greensboro           29.5
Averett                  28.0
Methodist              26.5
NC Wesleyan        19.5
Ferrum                  16.0
Shenandoah         15.5
Peace                     6.0
Maryville                 5.0

Congrats to Rob Rod. of CNU - Aztec Bowl...he gets to play one more game!!!!

CNU85,how many seniors do you lose?  What kind of team can we expect next year in Texas?  Sorry we won't get a rematch next year, but I will be there for the game in Belton.  Hope you can make it down.

Well I can tell you the Capts lose a bunch. Rob Rodriguez, who was a DB and selected to play in the Aztec Bowl, Justin Long, a hard-hitting strong safety, but should be replaced by his brother, another hard-hitter. CNU also loses WR George Jones, an all-purpose threat and they also lose the program's all-time leading rusher in Roland Hilliard. Those four will be tough to replace. They also lose wideout Curfew Speight who had a helluva game against W&J, 2005 starting QB Hudson Bryant, who filled in admirably against the Presidents going 17-of-21 for 188 yards and led the Capts back into the game, and he did it in less that 2 quarters of play. They lose a roll player in Harvey Harper on defense, the anchor of the offensive line in center Matt Boykin and the other anchor of the o-line, Larry Broach. Many key players and some of whom their shoes will be tough to fill. Im sure the coaching staff has already been out recruiting during the season and im sure will continue to do so throughout the rest of the year. Should be interesting to see who comes in and who will help right away. What worries me is the rushing attack. Hard to replace a 3000 yard rusher.

Bill,

Can't add more than what RTT mentioned below. Another thing that I keep int he back of my mind is that after last year I was worried since we lost 6 starters on each side of the ball, including 3 starting LBs - and their honors included all-conference, all-region, all-american, and an Aztec Bowl appearance. But our LB's this year played extremely well and I believe are all sophomores. Anyway, I'm confident the coaches have this all in mind and will have a team ready to play next year!

as we approach thanksgiving, i think it's appropriate to thank all of the usasac student-athletes who participated in the "cans across the conference" event and congratulate cnu on a convincing "victory" - great job everyone

The USASAC as a whole seemed to be pretty young this year.  This could lead to some good seasons for the next couple of years.  I'm hoping to see a USASAC team go at least a couple games deep in the playoffs in the next year or two.
Everyone have a safe and good Turkey Day

Recuiting.......that is where it has to happen. Plus you need to sell your school. CNU is several heads above the other Virginia schools when it comes to selling it's facilities and success. These other coaches need to have some great sale pitches in order to overcome CNU's power.

we coulda

dang it...we lost 27-23

Turnovers kill!!!

What a second half....down 27-0....cam back to 27-23 and fumbled away the free kick with 47 seconds left.....so close....and those are the hardest ones to forget!

Thanks to the seniors for 4 great years of football.....I like where the team will be next year......and that #21...Matt Long...he can HIT!!!

I add my voice to Llama's in the hopes that you and the other posters will come on up to the Stagg Bowl and join us for a merry day at Stone Station now that you know what it's all about.  We are sure going to have a great time.  And I promise the brownies will be there and they will be excellent!! ;D ;D ;D

Thanks O-linemom!!! I haven't figured it all out yet. My guess is that there's only a 30% chance of making it.

HEY - Will the certain former CNU player that stopped by Stone Station to partake, please drop me an email. We discussed starting a CNU version of Stone Station......let's make it happen!!
