Unofficial word is that Ierulli now has a verbal I'll be there from Maryville High qb Derek Hunt.
6 foot, 175 pounds, was the running version of a two qb system that has picked up the last two Class 4A titles (third in a row) in TN and won 45 straight. Already had three from Alcoa -- the Aluminum Republic of America -- commit that bring in a combined 9 Class 2A title rings.

Looks like having a good conference run in the fall has added some sway for the Scots in the local recruiting ranks.

BTW Did USA South miss out with LaGrange and Huntingdon both going to the St. Louis IAC as football only members? http://www.lagrange.edu/athletics/football/ConferenceAnnouncement.htm
Seems like the miles would be just about the same considering the number of Illinois schools in that group. Either way its a long haul from midgeorgia and mid Alabama.

Bard, I think that this is an excellent move for those GSAC schools for the next 4-6 years.  I think that both schools will be very competitive for that Pool A bid.

I think that LaGrange gets a very good chance to get to .500 in the SLIAC very quickly.  I think that both teams will benefit from the success.  I believe that the USAC is a stronger conference top to bottom, so the less stressful competition will allow LaGrange to be a winner faster.  Huntingdon ranks as my favorite for the first Pool A bid in the SLIAC, whenever that occurs.  Its Pool B chances got better, solely because it is hard to keep out a Pool B candidate if they can go undefeated, a not-incomprehensible thought even this year.

The move in D3 is towards conferences, wherever one can find them.  That is why we see Brockport and Mo'ville moving to the NJAC.  I also believe that the Capital AC will move towards the AQ as quickly as they can.  The USAC schools were not quite as pressed to find opponents "in the neighborhood".  The ACFC schools will need games in the VA-NC region..  Maryville can select between Sewanee, Centre, LaGrange and Huntingdon for its 3 non-conference games.

Ralph,
I agree that the USA Conf. was not as pressed to add teams, yet it might have been nice to make that step from the perspective of the GSAC. It might have paved the way for a complete merger of the two. Also, there have also been the rumors of CNU and Shenandoah moving to other conferences. As far as Maryville is concerned it has become harder and harder to schedule any of teams of the SCAC due to that conferences additions.

Highlander, thanks for the post.

I hope that you are not echoing any of my conjectures about mid-Atlantic shake-ups, as I postulated who might be "shaken up" in the "shake ups".

Clearly, CNU would have some friends in the Public/Private Capital AC, and they could be the 4th football school instantly.

I am not sure where Shenandoah would be going now as the MAC has filled from the Penn AC, and doesn't seem to inclined to extend the bid to Shenandoah.  (Or, maybe Shenandoah graciously declined.)

Sewanee and Centre will have 2 non-conference games.

Is there any word about Oglethorpe adding football, or does the SCAC expansion take up any slack in the travel budget that might have been used for that addition?

Highlander

Ralph,
I am not hoping that the USA South conf. will lose any teams that they already have. I believe that this is a conf. that has some pretty good parity, yet now everyone except for CNU must work hard to gain some national respect (In- football). I was holding out hope that for the sake of the GSAC, that there might be a chance to merge with the USA South in all sports. In regards to Centre and Sewanee, both of these teams have many old rivals that might fill out their non-conference games. I think, but could be wrong that Sewanee and Maryville will not even play this upcoming season.

Good to see Tony getting the local talent. Long way from HS rings to USA South champions though! Let's hope. GO SCOTS!  8)

Those schools that the MAC added from the Penn AC are non- football schools. They keep their AQ with nine teams so unless there is another suprise in the offering I think they will be happy to stay with that.

Wesley was interested a few years back in the USAS and was rejected by memebers if I rememeber correctly.
Football !!! The ultimate team sport. Anyone who plays DIII football is a winner...

The reason I brought it up is the two conferences have a definite budding swap for baseball and basketball in scheduling very competitive contest. Think LaGrange has played several USAS schools this spring and most every GSAC school had at least one USAS school on basketball sked this year.
I would think football is the next natural step but this move, which starts play in 08, seems to limit that chance.

Allsky, I agree totally, but its a good basis for bringing in the right attitude. Those seniors MC loses were all from class contender programs in hs. Waiting to see if Brad walker (transfer from lenoir-Rhine orig. from William Blount HS) gets first look at fullback or as the replacement at def end for Townsend.

For the Greensboro Guys,

Has anyone seen the 2007 football schedule for Greensboro and do you know if they will be playing night games this year?

CNU85

I've been out of the loop for awhile. I thought I heard or read a few weeks ago that a couple of CNU coaches were off to Univ. of Richmond -  a 1-AA school. Any CNU folks in the know???

CNU85

according to Richmonds web site they picked up David Legg and Josh Lustig

Judging from the number of guys bent over and attempting to call dinosaurs out of the grass within site of the LAP this week. MC's spring running and conditioning has started and must be unusually cruel to start the day after spring break ended.

Think Walker is going to be tried out at defense first and as fullback type runner second. have to wait a few weeks to see if his presence brings the two-back set from last year out of the scrap heap and back into consideration.
