Looks like the boys at Averett figured it out.  The explanation and schedule is now published.  Averett and W&L will play on 9/22 at night in Salem. Averett has also announced that in 2008 and 2009 they will replace Mount Union with Bridgewater College.

Kickerdad-

What do you think that means for Averett?  Is Mount Union trying to get out?  Or is Averett trying to ease the sechedule a little bit.  Are they expecting to drop off the next couple of years? Or is it a money issue? What do you think of it?

There was just alot of fans last year that praised Averett for playing Mount Union. Bridgewater is good but they are not a Mount Union. Bridgewater already plays quite a few USASouth teams.  So I am not sure where Averett is headed.

If I have my information correct (which I have been known to screw up a few times) the contract with Mt. Union was for only two years. I had heard through the grapevine that Averett was trying to get on with UW-Whitewater this coming year, meaning they would have played Mt. Union and UW-Whitewater within a three week period. That deal didn't come together and time may have been running out. I know for a fact tha Dunlevy would prefer to play all the big dogs he can as a tune up for the conference. As to where Averett is headed, this year is going to be a crap shoot. They have experience players returning, but I just don't know if they are ready to fill some big shoes that graduated. Next year (if everyone returns) they will have 30+ Seniors. Now granted not all of them are starters but they have lots of playing time and they have been will have been togehter for 4 years.

I believe it is possible for Averett to go 8-2 or 7-3 this year and give NCWC and CNU another run for the conference. It will depend on how that hold together the first 5 weeks. They will play 4 road games before they step foot on the home field. (Mt. Union, Guildford, W&L and Ferrum) It doesn't get any easier at home (NCWC, Methodist, Greensboro away, then back home for Shenandoad, CNU and back on the road for Maryville) 4 home games total. I believe they will have the fire power on offense but the defense will be untested and will have to come together early in the season.

So roll the dice and lets see what happens....Could be another great year, could be average or one hell of a long season on the road.

I'm really looking forward to the September 15 Averett at Guilford night game.  I think the Averett fans from Danville and the surrounding area, the Guilford students and the Guilford alumni will turn out big time.  First home game of the year, first night game on campus in school history and two explosive offenses - it has all the markings for a very good game.

Interesting description, abnrgr.  :)  Let's just say I hope the Quakers can reverse last year's 54-34 loss in this year's moonlight.  After being tied at 28 in Danville at the half, the "hordes" ambushed us in the second.

Well honestly I dont see Averett going 8-2 or 7-3 maybe 6-4 and also they will not challenge CNU for the conference and NCW maybe will not either. CNU will be the 1st USA SOUTH OR Dixie Conference outright conference champion and NCW will come in second. Those guys at CNU recuit really well not to mention all the talent they have returning, so I see it another CNU championship yr and how about that sep 1 game CNU vs Rowan, or maybe sep 8 CNU vs MHB.

MU_ftbl51

So we are in exams right now and i have nothing better to do than to look up stats and type on here. I do not see Averett going 7-3 next year. I am not hatin on them i just dont see it happen. Here is why.

QB- the cougars should have two sophomores competing for the job of QB. Shan Fairbanks and Greg Harbaugh. From the stats page it looks like fairbanks was given more time than Harbaugh but Harbaugh had the better rating.
Fairbanks- 27-45-1 with 5 TD'S
Harbaugh- 3-5-0 with 3 TD'S
I think there will be some competition big time for the starting Job. Replacing Parsons will be hard to do, but i think it will be done.

RB- This spot will definitly be hard to replace with Wilson gone. His stats didnt just jump off the page at you, but i had a chance to see this young guy run in person and play, and ill tell you this he fought very hard for those 800 yards he had. Very Physical running back almost like a bruiser type. However, it looks like Ellison will do a good job replacing him. Dantavious Watson will be the other answer.

O-LINE- This is the critical point and why i say they will not be 7-3. They only have 2 seniors and 2 juniors on the team. They are VERY young. When you have a young O line, it is hard to do alot. Look at Methodist last year. They had 1 senior starting on the line and they gave up more sacks in a season than has been given up there in a long time. I mean it is hard to run an offense behind inexperience, they just dont have that leadership. They do however have a lot of freshman on the team and some good ones coming in. I just think it will be a couple of years before they contend again.
GO MONARCHS!! 2005 Conference Champs!

kickerdad

Remember I said it was possible. A guy can dream. I agree with all of you and that's why my last comment was "it could be one hell of a long season on the road".

PrideSportBBallGuy

MC_Ftbl51-

I agree with alot of what you said. At the d3 level especially, and at any level really, having a QB that is consistent is prime.  They will have to replace parson no doubt.

RB- Yes wilson was an exceptional RB.  He was power guy, in my mind. I think he can't be replaced with one back but with two they can compete fine without him. (I personally think every team should have a power guy and a speed guy.) The backup averaged more TD's per att. (Stupid stat but who cares.)

OL- Yeah OL will be critical, but maybe talented could out weigh that.  Who knows. From looking at the rosters of MU and AU it looks like comaparing the linemen on average AU has about 8 to 20 more pounds on thier guys.

I said expected they were going to be 6-4 and worst 4-6.

Somebody please, I need some help I can't believe I was so decent with my comments of AU.

Deep down you are a wonderful person...................maybe? Besides there is not enough Averett folks on here to harass you and the others like some I have seen.

wow...this board has been busy the last month, or so...7 pages to get caught up...great work boys-n-girls - a couple of things to throw out there

first - the monarchs had a solid spring - the coaches are happy with the qb progress...i think you'll see much improvement from mr. parks in his 2nd year with the program - i think he has potential to be as effective as rocket as a senior in the passing game, but he'll never be the threat rocket was with his legs...this could be a real break out year for him, but the receiving corps is not as deep without sands - i'm not as worried about mike hill as others are...i think coach sy's comments were mostly a shot across his bow to get him motivated for FOOTBALL after running track this spring, but that's just an opinion...i hope i'm right, cause he is the key to the monarch offense, especially early in the season - my biggest concern is if they can find someone to spell hill...he simply runs better if he can get a few series each game off - the offensive line will be improved because of the experience the young guys got last year and the heat some recruits will put on the returners

secondly, this is how the conference will finish out this season:
cnu (first outright champion)
ncwc
mu, m'ville, averett (tie)
gboro, ferrum (tie)
su

lastly, there is this...

However I am good with numbers.

Narch-

It is so good to hear from you.  It could only have been you to make my "golf score" get even better.

ah...the numbers were accurate but whether or not they made sense is up to debate.

People have like my lastest numbers and haven't heard any complaints from my last listing.

I have a power ranking system for football which I will be using this year.  Lets just say it is more "Narch"ish.  Working right now on getting it up using last seasons numbers.

Just a heads up I have done CNU and they finished at 42 pts.  Tried to see where they stood up against Mount Union.  Mount Union had 65 points.  (These numbers use regular season numbers.)

Note: the total number of points will have to be divided by number of regular season games.  (FC only played 9 games last year).

4.2 for CNU
and 6.5 for Mount union

PrideSportBBallGuy

#3657
CNU 4.2
AU 3.8
NCWC 3.05
MC 2.1
MU 1.6
GC 1.45
SU 1.2
FC 1

Although dividing it by the number of regular season games didn't really do anything. (CNU 42 points /10 games results in 4.2)

It use's:
1 pt for every win at home
2 pt for every win on the road
1 point  for every win thier opponent has.
0 points for losing
Get the same points for beating a team not a division 3 team.

Only get half as many points for the amount of wins they have (NAIA NCCAA etc)unless

d2 get an extra .25 points for the same rules that apply above.

i.e win on the road against a d2 team who goes 3-7.  Would result in a score of 2.5 for the game and 3.75 for wins for a total of 6.25 points

d1AA .375 points

d1 .5

That is just version 1.0

Thinking about figuring out a way to factor in opponents wins within the conference and how well that conference does in non-conference play.  That way it might add i little conference strength to it.  Like opponents as well.  Right now it looks fine.

Lets clarify something right now.  Yes SU was 2-8 and Yes FC was 2-7 and FC finished higher then SU, but SU wins came when opponents had 9 combined wins.  FC on the other hand opponents combined wins totaled 4.

Narch, you must be doing way to much work to stay off the boards for that long.
