Gallaudet Drum
They did in the past but don't do it as much now.

We played them when I first came here (fall of 2000) and they did and as time passed, the use of the drum slowly faded away.

When we played them in our JV game this year they did it sparingly if at all.

pride - i think 'nova's analogy is spot on...most of your posts are a wreck, but i can't stop looking at them - seeing how deeply our educational system has failed you is incredibly interesting

an "instant classic" pridesportbballguy post is one that wraps up everything that your posts stand for...this particular post had an example of poor spelling, terrible grammar and a flawed math equation...all requisite ingredients for an "instant classic"- while some may argue that it does not contain the "then/than" transposition and cannot be considered classic, i would counter that this practice is not confined to pridesportbballguy, and therefore is not required of a psbbg classic

the beautiful thing is that you just don't get it...you're concentrating on the "Commerce -e +ial" portion of the post, when in actuality, the "I could spell it out fine easily" portion of the post is what truly defines this particular piece and makes it the fantastic example that it is - that phrase should immediately be inducted into the d3sports.com phrase hall of fame - i've used it at least 3 times today alone...it's classic pridesportbballguy

I once heard that Gallaudet uses a drum cadence from the sideline at the line of scrimmage to let the offensive guys know when the ball will be snapped.  Is this true or simply urban legend?

100% true.

Though sometimes they will go on a two-drum count and sometimes on a silent count.

That hit me hard Narch. I will disagree, because what I put on here is much different than what I put out in the real world, (This is just the internet world).  My resume's have been great and I have never had any rejections. My work is done on time/ahead of time. I have held leaderships postitions since I was 11 years old. You are judging me on what I post on here.  You haven't met me.  I have worked hard to be where I am now.  I am the first of my family to go to college. That is where you guys don't get it. I take criticism better than anybody you know. (Otherwise I would have stopped a long time ago on here)  I will not stand for a clear attack of my educational background. (It must be an attack, because you didn't leave your signature sarcasm smiley). I may have disagreed with, but I have never judged you.

Pride,

Whether you know it or not, we're actually trying to help you.  I've met you and I do like you as a person.  I regularly teach college level courses, however, and I can tell you without fear of contradiction from any other academic that your writing is not what I expect from a college student.  It's not a personal attack, Pride, it's simply a fact.  You say you write on the internet one way (and I recognize the rules are much looser), but turn out flawless, logical prose on all your assignments.  Sorry, I'm not buying it.  If someone can write well, it shows even in a grocery list!

I, like you, was the first person in my family to go to college.  Heck, the first time I ever lived anywhere with indoor plumbing was when I moved in English Hall at Guilford College as an 18 year old freshman!  Somewhat unlike you, however, when I read something new or hear something I've never heard before, I file it away and never forgot it.  All we're trying to do is spur you to evolve and be a better writer!  If you introspectively listen, you'll eventually thank us for it.  If not, you and possibly your mother will be the only ones who think you write well.   My Mom thought I was a good writer, but Dr. Morton gave me a C on my first college paper.  Actually, in hindsight, they were both too generous!

I'm still looking forward to that burger next fall, but I have nothing more to say on this subject.  A karma for you to remind you to research and proof.  Good luck and good writing.  Peace

SU played Gallaudet two years ago as a JV game.  Watching the plays unfold while they used the drum was quite a unique experience.  Found myself rooting for the GU team after a while.

i'm actually judging the way our educational system has failed you, not you as a person...if you want to take it personally, use my criticism as motivation to improve...

congrats, and join the club...i come from a large family (i have over 35 first cousins, and over 50 first & second cousins) and i am still, to this day, the only person in my entire family, extended or otherwise, to get a 4 year  degree...hell, i was the first in my family to even apply to a college (i've since had a brother and a cousin who attended some college, but neither finished their degree) - my parents both got GED's and many of my aunts/uncles/cousins didn't even go that far...being a first generation college student is not an excuse for poor writing...sorry, it just isn't

and if greensboro loses to gallaudet, they should be kicked out of the usasac...from a football standpoint, that would be a bad loss :)

Yeah, Pat, I know, but it wasn't as long ago as you might think.  lol  I entered college in 1970.  To be honest, 95% of the people in the farming community in which I grew up did have running water and bathrooms by that time, but my family did not.  If you want to know what my life was like in the 50's,  60's and early 70's, just watch old reruns of The Waltons:)   My siblings and I beat the odds and got a good education, so it can be done - you've just got to want it enough to go get it.  In fact, between the five of us, we have one Associate's degree, four Bachelor's degrees, four Master's degrees and one PhD.  Lest you think it's all Cupcake U., try Guilford, NC State, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, the University of South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Salem College and Cambridge (yes, the one in England).  Forgive me, then, if I tell young students, "If you want it, make it happen."

Let me catch up.  I will try to keep it as brief as I can.  Nova, I cook burgers one way, cooked.  I might have to brew up my 3 generations sloppy joe.  It is the best in America, I think.  I never said my writing was perfect, but it is better everywhere else, except the internet.  I wouldn't say flawless, because writing papers I have more comma errors than anything else.  I will have to e-mail you one of my papers and you will see the difference I am talking about. If this was a post of public speaking then I would not fail. I have taken 2 years in high school and a semester and have never gotten anything below an A. To add to my writing ability I have only used Greensboro's writing tutor once and she told me, I would never have to see her again.

If greenboro loses to galluadet then yess they deserve to be kicked out, unless galluadet ends up with a 10-0 record  :)

Hey, WLU78 - Easy to joke about, but don't judge me unless you walked a few miles in my shoes.  :)  Do some research on the socio-economic, educational and agricultural aspects of Patrick County, VA during this era and you'll see what I mean.  I'm sure a great Virginia university such as W&L has an extensive collection of research materials on Appalachia.  To your point, it really wasn't that different from some of the scenes in Deliverance, especially during the decade you swept the local Ned Beatty look-alike and pig-squealing contests.  Blue blood can be from wreath-shaped family trees as well, you know.  Well, I have to go now, my banjo needs tuning.  Purcell died at 36, so there's another lesson about "so much to do and so little time."  Peace

Well, Pride, I appreciate the burger and I'll take your word on the tutor's comments.  Also, Gallaudet will not be 10-0.

Pride, you messing with Hasa on grammar is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, it gets you nowhere and the pig loves it! :D
