Yeah, one or both sources could be in error, but I bet the $23.7M is in the right zone.  This is just my experience talking based on following Greensboro area schools, but there's no way Greensboro College is anywhere near $80.5M - unless someone dropped $57M on them in the past day or two!  lol  If they have, I think it would have made the paper.  :)

Quote from: SU97 on June 23, 2007, 07:25:56 PMthe entire BC school receives an average of $9,464 in institutional grants/scholarship.  If the 2004 tuition was listed at $17,990 (found on same site), then that alone is a 52% discount rate
WOW...just wow...those seem like HUGE numbers to me...i know i could find it, but any idea what the bc endowment is like?...answered my own question...$54.1 million per peterson's...is that big enough to support that kind of discount rate?  it must be..

my conclusion - i'm not sure that discount rates and endowment are related, although i initially thought they might be...

I don't think there is a correlation between the two either.  Great anaylsis on the USASAC schools Narch, that"s what I thought PSBBG would use in his argument with the ODAC folks -  BC's tuition and W&L's tuition are not even close when you start, and THEN the discounting comes in to play...  Fold that into the smaller pool that the W&L guys were talking about and the whole conversation's finished...

SU97

PSBBG...

So I'm here trying to help you out a little with your info... and I find this on the General DIII issues page under "Financial Issues":

Quote from: PrideSportBBallGuy on June 14, 2007, 09:53:38 AM
If we get back to Financial problems, there are several schools that have added football programs to help increase enrollment.  Shenandoah University is one of those schools.  Some of these schools may never field a competitve team.  I am just wondering what is the cost of running a program?  Now if a school adds footbal aren't they supposed to have a female equivalent under Title IX?  Now a school that needed to increase enrollment (which probably not postively means they are having financial problems) is funding two teams.

help me out with understanding why you singled out SU?

narch

psbbg - a gc fan should talk about "never fielding a competetive team" :)

i'll give you your answer...any small, private, tuition dependent institution that DOESN'T offer football is nuts, unless they simply don't have the room to add an addition 80-150 student athletes (and i'd recommend that they simply build a new residence hall to make room)...take the numbers i crunched below (avg tuition revenue after financial aid is subtracted) and multiply them by anywhere between 80 and 150 (the number of players generally on a d3 roster)...i guarantee that number is higher than the cost to run the program, and i guarantee it's significantly higher...

Yes, it has been well documented (on the front page of the New York Times and on NBC) that the primary reason for SU to add football was to complement enrollment needs, but SU has been USASAC co-champs twice and have been to the NCAA tournament.  So I am not sure why you felt you needed to include SU in that thread.   Common logic could conclude that Greensboro might have been a better example, seeing that you've never had a winning season.

SU97

ooops..  seems like Narch beat me to it.

I used SU because it is well documented. Since it is well documented, I wanted to throw out an example that most people would have heard about already. I know Greensboro did do it for that reason, but it is not documented as much as Shenandoah.

Besides I talk about Greensboro too much.

About football I think my two biggest arguements last year about Greensboro's football team was a) we weren't going to finish in last place and b) we were going to beat Methodist.

Quote me on this right here if you want.  I mean save this post.

My arguements this year will be.  Greensboro won't finish in last place.  We will beat either CNU or AU at home this year.

I had a dream the other night Greensboro was beating Maryville 42-28.  I never did figure out the final score.  I hope that comes true.  So I think I might very well take the points in that game in the pick'em contest. (That is of course if GC is picked as an underdog)

GC has never started a season 3-0.  It could very well happen this year.

Now I am trying to figure out something here, when was the last time, I was down right in your face about Greensboro Athletics.  I am talking about the caliber of last football season,  I believe when I set my "posting rules."  What is the point.  Ya'll have forced me to be neutral.

As for former logistican I can support the Narchster.  I am only looking at getting the boys infilled and exfilled

Lets say you fly a MC130 Combat Talon (C130 like A/C). I say this because civilian A/C are more expensive but I have no experience with civilian charters and I do not know their $$ but use the Talon at about 4K a hour. That's cheap. you have 5 road games 4 hours round trip a year. This is not scientific but it's a brush.

That's 80K a year for flights. lets throw in a 65 man travel team at 55.00 a night (hotel) for 1 night that's about 3600 X 5 at about 18000. 20.00 per man a meal, that's about 1300 X 5 road trips at 6500.00. Not counting another couple grand for tape. ;)
These are DII travel scenarios probably at $104,500 a year. Not counting buses from airports, misc, ie: ORTHO surgeons on the field. That tags another 10K

that is chump change compared to 110 guys bringing $ and financial aid $ at 29K a pop or more, or about 3M+ to the school.

Ah............ the home gate is beyond this discussion.........

Somebody like Narch probably gives MC at least 1-2 M a year in endownment money ;)
Never shall I leave a fallen comrade

Funny Pride....I had the same dream. Hate to tell you but the Scots staged a furious comeback and beat GC 43 to 42 on a two point conversion with 0:00 on the clock. LOL  ;D  GO SCOTS!!

Oh I was and I know, but the national coverage wasn't as huge as Shenandoah's national coverage. We can't forget that Greensboro was once the Greensboro Hornets.  Many rumors that surround on the reasons why the name was changed.

One rumor is the name was changed because of the Charlotte Hornets. (Even though they were playing 2 years before the change.)  Although it probably took two years to decide on the "Pride" nickname.

Now I heard rumors that they want to change "Pride" because it is one of the seven deadly sins.  The school is affiliated with the church so I could see why.

Narch supports Greensboro athletics.  Just a rumor I heard.  (That is how I take those rumors.) NOT HAPPENING.

Not going to lie to you.  I am worried about that comeback.  The two games between Greensboro and Maryville have been great football games.  There could be a rivalry between them in the making.
