Was this near the campus? I can think of worse ways to go but none seem to come to mind....... as it were........

BRIDGEWATER, Va. —  Deadly methane gas emanating from a dairy farm's manure pit killed five people, including four members of a Mennonite family, authorities said.

from the Drudge report

Methane gas is odorless.

I worked for someone from England...never get English, Scotish, and Irish confused......they'll get "bloody ticked, mate" - edited for children.

You especially don't want to get the "southern" Irish mixed with the "northern" Irish.  I have family from over there, the northern part of Ireland. (They will actually be coming over in less than a week.)  That is where half my family is from and believe me they will correct anybody if you don't say northern Irish and my irish relatives, dead or alive, would have a fit if I didn't where orange on St. Patricks's day.

refering to the d3football poll question and this article,

Does the NFL need a league to develop players? What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Did it really take a week for someone to finally write this angle? I hope someone covered the topic before this. :(

AllSky7,
I agree that the Scots are in need to start the season strong in their non- conference games. It would certainly pay dividends during the conf. portion of the season. Centre is always well coached and can certainly be a great match-up for the Scots. It would be awesome to return to Honaker Field for the home opener against Huntingdon with the Scots having a 2-0 record. Also, you really should try and get to Maryville to see the Scots play at Honaker, the community and students are really beginning to explode with support for the team.

Pride,
The nickname Fighting Scots came from the fact that there were quite a few Scottish settlers in the Southern Appalachians. Most from the Highlands. And, as you know they were a proud people who would defend their beliefs with great passion(See Braveheart). So remember, when you hear the Bag pipes realize that The Fighting Scots are on the way to battle.

Highlander....I have only missed two homecomings since 1983. Last year was the second. I plan to be there this year.  8)
The one thing that I do remember about Centre is that regardless of talent level, they were always  disciplined and well coached. GO SCOTS!!

Slowly catching up to the months of posts I've missed...don't post too often but decided to throw my two cents in.  All the talk about tuition rates is a little ridiculous.  CNU has a nice campus, great facilities, a winning tradition, and a great location.  All of these factors also weigh-in.  As a former player I narrowed my choices to CNU, Ferrum, and Hampden-Sydney(all guys...need I say more) out of high school and in the end it was a no brainer.  I probably would have made the same choice if a majority of the schools in our conference would have offered me a free ride.

As for the ODU factor on CNU, I too believe there will be minimal affect on CNU.  There is plenty of talent throughout VA and the coaches excel at recruiting and will continue to get quality players from throughout the state.  ODU may steal a few players away every once in awhile, but CNU isn't the only school in DIII who does recruiting in Hampton Roads.

Congrats too on a great career Parsons and good luck with McDaniel.

Great Poems too.

Capt...Sounds like CNU was the right choice for you but  I wouldn't be so fast to rule out H-S  based on it being all male. Trust me on this one.  :D
With all due respect, not sure all the talk about tuition is ridiculous. There are many factors, but money is probably the number one factor that determines where MOST kids choose to go to school. If it is not #1, it is certainly in the top few factors. BTW...I have been on the campus of CNU and it  does have all the things you mentioned. Matter of fact, the company I work for played a small part in the nice facilities you mentioned.  ;D In todays world of almost 30k tuition, CNU is a bargain.

Tuition does factor in to a persons choice for college.  Even in my case.  I grew up in MD and I didn't spend too much time out of state prior to Greensboro College.  I also wanted to be different from everybody I knew and didn't want to go to the same college as everyone else,  Salisbury, Frostburg St, Millersville, and York College. There was HCC (Harford Community College, which we called USC (University at Shucks Corner)  The name of the road was Shucks corner.  With those choices eliminated I was left with private colleges.  The private colleges in MD are about 10K more than in NC.  So going away from home was a no brainer and NC was just far enough away.  So why Greensboro, you ask.  Well, that is a different story for a different day.

Pride and allsky-

I completely agree with you on the fact that tuition is a factor in decision-making, but was just trying to say that CNU has a lot more than low tuition rates working for them.  Another factor that I should have mentioned is the crowd that CNU brings to a game. It's a great feeling playing in front of a packed-house.

H-S was just a joke, I know it's a great school academically and their football team is always competing.

I know it's a tall order for the Scots, but hopefully they will be able to whip the Captains in front of a "packed house" to return the favor from HC last year. BTW...when is CNU's HC? It isn't listed on the web site. I'm thinking it has to be against the Scots or NCW.

That sucks........having your open date at the beginning of the season. Averett's open date is the following week and to me that is too early in the season, however we may need the extra week to recover from the Mount and get ready for Guilford.

Guess I played around with the buttons too much......what an idiot.

Just to make this board active. Take a look at this SU97,  I think there is some hope for SU if they can put up at least 13pts in one quarter.  Of the 26 wins they have had since 2001 season 24 of them have been in games when they score at least 13pts in one quarter. (24-3 overall)  Alot of teams that score 13 pts in a quarter might win some games, but it is a little different for SU because of the offense.  The offense isn't really built to make comebacks that is true with any other team that runs the ball nearly all the time.
