Narch-

You completely missed the point of the "meter"ball joke. I referenced Canada and the fact that they play "foot"ball, even though they use the metric system. The metric system was mentioned in an earlier post therefore I continued the discussion.

I don't agree with you, I think my sentence is complete.  (When 'nova says it is incomplete/complete then I will agree with you.)

Also,

"The playing field is larger, being 110 yards (100 m) long and 65 yards (59.4 m) wide. The end zones are 20 yards (18.3 m) deep."

Football, Canadian. Encyclopedia Britannica online. May 2003.

Pride said, "With the invention of instant messenger (perhaps you meant "message"?) systems(,) using colloquial words, have caused the young generation, including myself(,) to use word(s) as if we were speaking, which generally are words not accepted in formal language.  I think that might have been a (why the "a"?) the "smartest" written post I have ever posted."

I would have said something more like, "With the invention of instant message systems, the young generation, including myself, may use colloquialisms in a manner more closely related to how they speak, rather than words generally accepted in formal language."

Pride, your "sentence" has a good premise, but I have to agree with Narch.  At best, it is a run-on sentence without proper punctuation and at least one instance of incorrect word usage.  At worst, it is an incomplete sentence that lacks a required degree of clarity.

Also, if the Canadian field is measured in 100 meters, why is the center of the field marked as the 55 yard line?  It's in yards.

pride - if you think your sentence is even CLOSE to correct, you don't deserve to get a college degree...and i'm being dead serious...'nova is being nice

and canadian football is played ENTIRELY in yards...so your joke makes no sense, either - canada may be on the metric system, but their football game is not, so calling the league the canadian metric league isn't logical or funny

lastly...everyone failed the obscure beer commercial reference (although, truth be told, '85 was probably the only one playing)

"then/than...whatever" was a thin reference to the old bud light commercial that used the punchline "Jane/Joan...whatever"...maybe it was TOO obscure (or maybe i pay too much attention to beer commercials) :)

Narch, I thought it would have to do with Corona  ;)

+1 to 'nova for at least showing me where the sentence went wrong, and not trying to belittle me. Narch, I know you are being honest but the way you phrased the sentence appears to be very negative.

Narch, here is a collection of books I think you should read:

"The Leader in You" and "How to Win Friends & Influence People" both by Dale Carnegie

Also maybe you need to go back to school, because clearly there is no class on the subject of leadership offered at Methodist.  If you don't want to go back to school buy this book, "The Leadership Experience" by Richard L. Daft.  I also suggest studying the "Leadership Grid" (That theory is one of my favorite leadership theories)

Whatever your job may be, I don't think there are many people that actually "enjoy" working for/with you. (Treat others as you want to be treated) I think you are a manager not a leader. With that said, I would never work for you. (I would work for 'nova even though he has criticized me as much as you have.) I am starting a career change within the next year or so, because there are too many people out there who shouldn't be in positions of power.  I like where I am now.  My managers are good managers[leaders], but many are not and therefore need to be shown how to be good managers.

Also I never said that a CFL field was in meters. You tried to out think the joke and failed. They use meters in Canada and that is the joke.

(Now don't be a smart@$$.  Don't try to correct the grammar on this post.  I am working on 4 good hours of sleep and I was up early this morning taking a 4 hour certification test.)

+1 'nova!

You beat me to it!  And, I didn't get to use an obscure reference to a rouge either.   :-\

PSBBG...I know the things Narch says can sting a bit, but that's only because he calls it as he sees it, he is a straight shooter and has been since I met him.  Don't get upset and speak of things that you have absolutely no idea about.  I personally know Narch and people who work FOR him and they certainly seem to enjoy working for him (maybe they are just good actors ::) ).

Yes, MU does offer leadership classes.  Leadership was my minor while at MU (MC) and has done me quite well in my career thus far.

As far as all these books on 'effective' leadership goes, you can keep all your books telling you to "stand around the camp fire and hold hands and play nice with everyone" but maybe that's just military in me talking....or it could be the Rum  ;D

Going on 4 good hours of sleep...give me a break...I've been days without getting 4 good hours of sleep and still been able to think and communicate effectively.

Well said and true.  I've met both Narch and PSBBG.  Narch is a straight shooter, but I like that.  PSBBG has youthful enthusiasm going for him and there's certainly always a place for that as well.  Leadership can come in many forms and, as far as I know, there's no set formula.  I can tell you one thing, however, if I was starting a business or a military unit or an athletic team today, Narch would have a leadership position now.  When PSBBG earns one, I'm sure he'll have one as well.  Peace

Thanks, Ralph.  I learned something new about negative scoring, although I did know rouge is French for red.  From an accounting point of view, it makes perfect sense.  lol

The Dale Carnegie books are considered, by many, to be the premier books on the subject of leadership. They are not books about "stand around the camp fire and hold hands am play nice" (proper use, the statement is parallel, but I do think there is an extra and in there.  ;D)

Good for you, you can handle 4 hours of sleep much better than I can.  I am not you, so don't talk to me as if I were you. All MU alum seem to be the same, you think you are better than everybody else.  No wonder the transfer rate is so high at MU.

There is a difference between being straight foward and being honest. One can be straight foward and not be negative, those that know me know that I very straight forward but I am not negative.

I won't question college education or anything personal about anybody, unless those things are questioned about me. No one should question choices (college, dinner etc.) unless it has a negative impact on another person.

And 'nova I signed off without given you the karma.
