Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is playing at Kenyon the second week of September.

MapQuest puts the distance from Claremont, Calif., to Gambier, Ohio, at 2,271 miles.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

speaking of long rides.......for those of you in the D3 "know".....CNU is traveling to Belton TX. Does anyone know of another D3 team traveling a longer distance in this upcoming season? Just using city names and not the actual addresses of each school, mapquest says it is 1493 miles from Newport News to Belton.

I am assuming those are air miles? I put more into a long bus trip than I do a 3hr plane flight.
Bridgewater has an 10.5 hr bus ride to LaGrange this year. If only we would have kept CNWho on our schedule! :o Guess Stone Station will get it's Frequent Rider Miles in this year. LOL!

596 Miles 9 hours and 29 minutes, Bridgewater VA to LaGrange GA.

Llamaguy, I hope you can serve as an ambassador if/when you go to LaGrange.

It would be good to get some LaGrange fans going on the boards.

nicely done Ralph.

Ryan - that is a "Yikes" trip.

Leave it to Llama to try ad figure out miles "as the crow flies" vs "as the buffalo roam"  ;D

85,
Thats 'cus my butt ain't got no stewardess serving me cocktails while I'm driving the llama wagon across country!  :o It just ain't the same, although I do know where every Hooters is on the way. I use ta could fly Hooters Air but they grounded my girls b'cus the Mile High Club was getting too easy to attain. Damn bullies!

Ralph,
I'll do that! They had a good following make the trip to BC last fall. Good people. They should have a formidable team in the very near future.

PA,
They can, but it is the stopping to spit that really slows us down.  ;)

You know, all this talk about the longest road trip(s) in DIII reminded me of the button I have in my collection of odds and ends that says "Okay, if you're so smart, what's the speed of dark!?"

With this conundrum in mind, what's the shortest road trip in DIII?  I think the annual intracity rivalry of Guilford and Greensboro might be a contender.  The Pride play at Jameison Stadium on the campus of the City of Greensboro's Grimsley HS.  It's a whopping 5 miles or so!  lol  Any others this short?  Perhaps Loras and the University of Dubuque to mention a possibility.

Note:  It's actually a little farther when the Pride visit Guilford because the Quakers play on their campus and the Pride's football home, Grimsley HS, is a couple of miles closer to Guilford College than Greensboro College is to Guilford College.  Call this a seven mile road trip!  lol

my 2 guaranteed picks that might be up in the air for others...NCWC will beat Wesley and Averett will beat W&L

I do believe that latter is more of a possibility, however we have to remember Parsons is a football coach now, so....

It is also international lefthanders day.  So be nice to your fellow lefthanders.  Its not easy to be lefthanded in a righthanders world. I know, because I am lefthanded.

"Everyone is born righthanded, but only the best can overcome it."  :)

What is your take on the lefthanded QB, or lefthanded athlete?

moshergc9

Good if you are rocky, tough if you are a QB.  I think it is only bad because in HS most coaches wont give left-handers a shot unless they are better than all the rightys.

When do you know if a kid is left-handed or not?

My nephew is golf prodigy.  He has his own set of golf clubs at 22 months.  He goes to driving range and connects on a consistent basis.  Its pretty amazing.  It is weird though because he will throw sometimes right handed but always swings left.

Todd,

I hope you are 100% correct on the Averett game and 100% wrong on the Wesley game.

Averett has two long road games this year (Alliance, Ohio and Maryville, TN). These aren't to terrible for the team but for some parents we are looking at 12 hours driving time or more just in one direction. For me personally I will cover over 2,080 miles for both games and depending on how many rest stops momma takes, I will be on the road over 24 hours total.

Certainly doesn't compare to 85's trip. If that was me, I would be cking out the planes and trains.

My mom a huge baseball fan when I was growing up, always wanted me to pitch, I only pitched one game and pitched two innings.  First inning i saw 4 batters, I struck out 3 and walked one. I didn't have a second pitch only had a real fast fastball at 12 years old.  Next inning i gave up three runs, luckily we scored 5 runs in the first I was given the boot after that. Tried to pitch later on, I never could find the plate ever again. I stuck with RF and played well. I broke my wrist playing football my sophmore year of high school, I offically retired from baseball after that.

Moshergc9-
Many theories about when a kid is known to be left handed, at birth, environment, or just plain born with it.  I agree with the last one, my father is left handed too.  (I was always a good hitter against lefties, I thank my father on that one)

good for all positions except center (if a qb is the best on the team, who cares if he's a lefty)
good for baseball pitchers/1b/of...bad for anything else
good for basketball players...throws a nice little element of surprise into the mix

sounds like a future monarch :)

my 22 month old son seems to be a bit amphibian right now (a little charles shackleford [i think] humor for those of you who know anything about ncsu hoops)...he throws a ball with whichever hand he picks it up with...same with eating...and he swings his little bat lefty first and on follow through, leaves the bat on the other shoulder and swings righty the next time
