ACL tears are no fun at all and the rehab sucks even worse!!!

I have had both of mind replaced and you are right the rehab is tough. It will take lots of hard work on his part and patience. If he works hard and doesn't give up, he can be ready next season. Hope he has a good sports doctor and not one of the normal othro guys that hasn't a clue what they are doing with ACL's.

We did the shrimp thing last year in Danville and damn near had the entire parking lot standing in line for some. Amazing what a little old bay and a good breeze will do.

Quote from: PrideSportBBallGuy on September 07, 2007, 09:21:59 AMTalking about food here now, what is everyone's favorite tailgating food, ever been to a game where you had anything unusual.
Not that unusual, especially in the eastern part of NC and SC, but one of the best tailgates to which I was invited had a seafood boil.  Take a big propane cooker (such as the size that will deep-fry an entire turkey) and add Old Bay seafood seasoning, shrimp, small red new potatoes, corn on the cob, onions, Andouille sausage, celery, carrots, etc. and boil until all are tender.  Then put a big piece of waxed paper on a picnic table and just let folks pick and choose what they want.  With cold "beverages", a few great desserts and a good football game, it was a fine day!  The day I remember was a perfect mid-October day and a great 42-38 come-from-behind homecoming victory by South Carolina (QB was Anthony Wright, back-up for NY Giants) over Kentucky (QB was Tim Couch).  It was a memorable day - for food and for football!  :)
i've always called that frogmore stew...and it's unbelievably good...throw some clams and or mussels into the mix, and it makes it PERFECT...i've always made it on the stove, though...never thought about 'gaiting with it...hmm

a few years ago the parents of mu student (and former jv football player) tim evans cooked a whole pig for one game, and on another day made this incredible chicken & rice stew...they basically let anyone and everyone eat...it was very generous and VERY good - there is supposed to be an organized tailgate for monarch fans on saturday called the "monarch zone"...i plan to check it out and see what's doing

all this talk about food as i try to swallow my same old turkey sandwich :)

had a dream last night that michael myers from halloween broke into my house...he was wearing a maroon #16 jersey and attacking me with thrown footballs...
Too funny, narch.  lol

I've heard it called "frogmore stew" as well, but seafood boil is the term I use.  I'm with you on the clams and mussels - this meal is hard to beat!

There are two players on Guilford's football team from Hayesville, NC, which is in Clay County way out on the Georgia border in the southwestern part of the state (just a few miles east of Murphy).  There used to be four players, so there has always been a big contingent that travels to all Guilford home games and most away games.  They have a set parking spot behind Dana Auditorium and set up on the grass next to the lot.  These fans put on quite a spread and I've been honored to dine with them more than once.  My nephew was the starting center on Hayesville's state 1A championship basketball team in 2004, so everyone knows my family.  They're good folks and love their sports - drop by and say hello if you're at a Guilford game this fall.  By the way, my nephew Joseph starts for the Brevard College basketball team if any of you want to follow him on the internet or get a chance to watch him in person.  I'm biased, of course, but he is pretty good!  :)

Narch, I couldn't help but laugh about the attack in your dream.  I think Vogelbach may launch at least 40 tomorrow!  lol  If you're at the game, please say hello.  I hope to be there early for a short tailgate.  I'm driving a gray '04 4Runner (Toyota says titanium lol) with a Guilford frame around the back license plate.

CNU85

couple of years ago I skewered shrimp and steak, teiyaki style. I did someting with potatoes in foil, but I can't remember what I did......damn this getting old sucks!

AdmiralPapi

Whenever we go to the races we always take about 5 of those propane cookers and cook an array of seafood.  We'll have everything from fried shrimp, flounder, trout, oysters, clambake, oysters, hushpuppies ... needless to say we always draw a good crowd.
Any fool can circumnavigate the world sober...it takes a real sailor to do it drunk!!!

Glad to hear your trip is going so well.  Go Captains!

I have watched and enjoyed this board for the past four years and decided NCWC needs more support. You guys are all great! Probably a little older than the rest of you. If you remember Roman Gabriel, I played High School Football against him. That shoud give you an idea! Look forward to having some fun!

  Go NCWC!

#4583
welcome aboard old ref!

a short preview of the quakers/monarchs from the fayetteville observer

my prediction for today...lots of balls thrown in the air by #16...hopefully some of them end up in the hands of the guys with green jerseys and few end up in the end zone

this is a tall order for a very young secondary - the defensive front for the monarchs needs to cause havoc and the back needs to limit big plays and make tackles - on offense, the monarchs need to hold the ball and keep the quakers from having a short field - should be a fun game to watch

go monarchs!

p.s. - 'nova, i'll be looking for you at the game...

Old Ref

Thanks Narch, and good luck to the Monarchs and all the USA South guys!

The Winchester Star had an article today about the up coming game against BC.  "Shenandoah coach Paul Barnes said the offense, which started five sophomores (against CUA), might have been feeling some nerves."It's just that trust factor," Barnes said. "The more you play, the better the trust factor is. That just comes from time. We'll be better this week with it, we'll be better next week after it, and then you gain that confidence and you go."By Robert Niedzwiecki The Winchester Star

I hope the Defense can hold it together like they did last week. Its a long shot, but if the Hornet D can keep things close, maybe just maybe a miracle can happen.  :-\

I trust BC will win this game with no problem!!
I hope that you have a fantastic time in Texas.  Maybe I'll get there one day.  Hope you will make All Virginia proud by cheering your team to a win down there!!
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

I prefer to use Zatarins instead of Old Bay and crawfish, but other than that it sounds scrumptious!!!

Stone Station will be thinking positive thoughts about you as we tailgate and have communion, CNU85.  Look hard and you will see the flutter of the Stone Station flag on the horizon.

NCWC.......mistakes....mistakes.....mistakes.  For a team that has the talent to be 2-0, it did not show up today...
