And since we're getting closer to conference play where the wins and losses do matter more ...
This will be the second opportunity for some folks to make the trip to Murvul.

Since we're the longest drive for many if not all I'll put in a p[lug and say make a weekend of it. (Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge  and Townsend are cloe enough to make the stay worth while, but then I try to stay over and see something new everytime I make trip for conference play)

If anyone (Greensboro, Ferrum, Methodist, Averettt) wants run downs on where to stay and not stay, eat, which tailgaters are worth visiting or how to avoid traffic problems from the UT games in getting to campus let me know game week.

I recommend the "quite side of the Smokies" in Townsend, TN.  ;)  G-burg and PF are a little too much tourist trap for my taste.  8)

Good luck to the cru......the rest of the d3 world should take notice.....I've been watching d3 for 7 years now, NEVER have a seen a faster or harder hitting team.

85,
Welcome to TX football! After seeing Trinity in their hayday and UMHB the last 3 years I know firsthand how fortunate the Northern end of the South Region has been as a result of the penny pinching NCAA during the playoffs. Had there not been a TX sub-bracket in the first round of the playoffs each year, there would be a lot more than Texas high school football being played in TX in late November each year. That is a fact! ;)

my only experience, prior to yesterday, with Texas football was last year's UMHB game at CNU. And we know how well CNU plays at home.

CNU falls to #20 from #12.  That shows a lot of respect still exists for the Captains.

Looking for a dining recommendation in Yorktown area.  (BBQ or steak)

CNU85

Steak.....Schlesingers in Newport News

BBQ - around here it's mostly pork.......Pierce's in Williamsburg ha the best, but it's more like a carry out place...not much of a sit down kinda place.

other good places....

On the Yorktown waterfront there is a good place...not real sure of the name...Riverwalk???

What's bringing you to town?

TXMike

Staying there Fri and going to game on Sat.

CNU is still the favorite to win the USASouth in my mind.  It might be a little more wide open than what many of us orginally believed.

I think what CNU has done in the past has alot to do with thier ranking right now.

Although despite my belief that CNU will win the conference, I didn't think they should have been ranked preseason, but when they were ranked, they were in a good spot.

Like beating Rowan in Week 1? Absolutely.

CNU's pre-season ranking was #23, and the Caps were the 6th-ranked team from the South Region, and the first from the USA South.  (UMHB, Wesley, HSU, W&J, Trinity, then CNU.)

I don't think that you can consider the USA South any other way!

I still think it's hard to figure out the bottom half of the rankings. MAny of the voters (most of the voters?) haven't seen the teams they are ranking. There's just too many. The pre-season ranking for CNU was generous. After beating Rowan, I would have ranked them somewhere around where they are now 20-25. After yesterday, I'm not sure about a ranking. As far as Rowan, I think more games are needed to figure out where they belong in the polls. It's difficult, at best, for the voters at the beginning of the year.

You should try the seafood. I bet Riverwalk has good stuff.

it's hard to say that ANYTHING has changed with cnu re: their status within the usasac...they traveled 2/3 of the way across the country to play a top 10 team...a lopsided loss to umhb does nothing to sway my thought that cnu is the team to beat in the usasac

the su defense must be pretty legit...

CNU85, I enjoyed your post. I am glad you enjoyed your stay, too.  Your radio guys made a bad decision, not to take in a Texas high school football ballgame, 6-man, 11-man, whatever.

I think that you saw a new and improved UMHB.   In the South Region Fan Poll, I believe that UMHB is so far ahead of the region, that we cannot represent it in the balloting.

Good luck to y'all.  I think that the USASouth is a good conference, and may be slightly ahead of the ODAC this season.

Not sure I agree. CNU may be the best team in both conferences but my feeling is top to bottom the ODAC is stronger this year. Guess we shall see.  8)
