Polls are polls, they aren't fact much less carved by a deity each week - they are a tally attempting to show consensus of the voters. Its not perfect but like democracy its the best we've found so far for a regular season, though thank goodness we have a playoff that settles thing and not a BcS!

That said, if I had a vote (and I don't) I'd have put CNU pretty close to where they are now after the first two games. Not sure I'd have started them in the Top 25 preseason but they would have absolutely been in my top 30.

Pat do you give more of a road factor on your ballot when the trip is that long?

And for allsky and the Fighting faithful, heres the two cents from the MDT

"Added to the LaGrange game, MC would appear to have one of the toughest run defenses in all of Division III allowing 59 total yards or 29.5 a game and a 0.6 yards gained per rushing attempt. It's the main reason the Scots have given up just one touchdown and four field goals this season" (from Maryville Daily Times )

Not sure I would go there just yet.  :o No doubt encouraging though. Thanks for the link.

Just curious battered....did you leave the c in BcS lower case on purpose to highlight the BS:D

I tend to give a little respect for a plane trip and I would bet the coaches on our panel do as well -- at least those who have ever taken their team by plane. But I give a little bit for any road game, and in many cases I won't even punish a team for a road loss.

Frankly, in many polls one would see a lower-ranked team take a significant dive when playing a higher-ranked team competitively but losing. Say No. 5 beats No. 11 -- why then drop No. 11 five or six slots? The poll was just proven right. There's no need to break it.

Special Teans Player of the Week for USASouth.  Good Job

Rod Hill, Greensboro - The Lumberton, North Carolina senior defensive back blocked two kicks, one punt and one point-after-touchdown, as The Pride fell to Division-II UNC-Pembroke, 26-20. Hill also amassed 88 return yards on four attempts. On defense, Hill recorded three tackles and one interception.

I believe that NO ONE in the south has beaten Wesley the last two years !
To assume that Wesley will lose in the next three weeks and that merits them to be dropped to 15 or lower is rediculous.
I myself have said that if they continue to give away points on offence they will be hard pressed to recover game after game. But the fact is both NCW and Del Val scored two tds apiece on drives of twenty yrds and less caused by fumbles.  And as we have seen the first two weeks nothing is carved in stone as to who will win and lose.

no offense to the hightower kid from m'ville, but how in the world does mike hill not get offensive player of the week?? - hightower had 22 carries for 136 and 2 td's...that's a REALLY nice week, but hill had 33 carries for 186 yards and 4 td's...that's better

d. lawrence racked up 15 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 1 forced fumble and 1 broken up pass to get defensive player of the week honors for the monarchs...

I agree Narch, Hill had a better game, he should have won it.  My only guess is MC won, but that shouldn't be an excuse.

Yea I respect the poll rankings, a drop to number 20 is expected.  Because the win against Rowan a week ago, CNU was faced with the aspects of dropping out of the rankings or, moving up. CNU gain experience by playing a tough rank team on the ROAD, I mean on the ROAD too.  They will be better next time around, especially when they realize that the offense needs to move forward.  Hopefully that problem was resolve in the 4th quarter of the big lost against MHBU. CNU showed great progress, looking forward to a big change in the main speciality department next week. :o

CNU falls to #20 from #12.  That shows a lot of respect still exists for the Captains.

CNU is still the favorite to win the USASouth in my mind.  It might be a little more wide open than what many of us orginally believed.

I think what CNU has done in the past has alot to do with thier ranking right now.

Although despite my belief that CNU will win the conference, I didn't think they should have been ranked preseason, but when they were ranked, they were in a good spot.
Pridesports you answered your own statement,  Yes the reason why CNU has a preseason ranking is because they were picked 2nd to finish in the USA SOUTH and you said it, " you believe they will win there conference"

Obviously, choosing the POW is based on more than just total yards or number of TD's. Winning the game is probably one of the criteria but I suspect there are others.  8)
