Just looking at the nonconference record so far you have to assume that unless the embers catch flame somewhere that its a one and done postseason on paper. But then anything can happen on a given Saturday. watch the Scots long enough and you never take anything for granted win or loss.

Heres the MC package link from today's paper, Mon morning qb account comes out Mon. (makes sense doesn't it?) and will be at www.thedailytimes.com

Golson didn't so much have a bad day as his receivers got hammered. Foot steps cost them after the first series when two of the group got popped hard  by Jensen then Locke and let go. They ran around the corners and busted routes and dropped balls. A few went unaffacted, Jarrett Smith and Broderick Smith especially popped back back up and came back for more, but others let Golson down.
The run defense really keyed on him and outside of two early runs were he escaped out the backside when flushed for gains the line contained him without needing a lot of support from the linebackers.

I  noted in the McMurry-Huntingdon game that the Montgomery officials did not permit as aggressive a defense by DB's on WR's as we see in Texas.  I wonder if this variation in style permitted of defensive play at Murvul caught Huntingdon off guard.

First things first, congrats to Guilford College. They played a extremely well last night. They seem to be clicking on all cyclinders right now. Also your facility is first class and we enjoyed everything. The people were extremely friendly and helpful. Couple of guys from the Fest Event Staff wanted to cop an attitude, but overall great folks.

I hope I don't offend anyone with what I am about to say, Vogelbach is a good QB, but bottom line, without that offensive line and those receivers he would be just another average QB. The line gives him protection longer than most QB's have. Averett only got close to him 2 or 3 times all night. The receivers are fast and have the instinct to find the opening. So please when you are passing condo's for Vogelbach, make sure you talk about his line and rreceivers. He should be taking them all to Outback steak.

Finally, Olongguilford made reference to Averett being sloppy. That was being kind. They played like 2nd string high school players. They didn't move, hit, run, think...nothing. Dunlevy was quoted in the Danville newspaper that the coaches didn't do their job in getting the players ready. That may be true on some things but the coaches can't go on the field and play for them.  Hopefully he can perform some magic before the first conference game in two weeks. Only problem is we jump right out of the fry pan and into the fire next week with W&L.  Pray for us, we may not win a game this year if something doesn't change.

Good luck to Guilford the rest of this year and see you in Danville next year. Hopefully we will be able to offer more competition then.

Congrads Maryville for winning the first 3 games.  Especially the last 2 games were character builder games.  It showed that if it is close in the 4th quarter the scots are a VERY dangerous team.  They find ways to win.  I am excited to see how everything pans out this year in conference play.  One thing is for sure, they aren't a push over that anyone can take lightly.

This could be a year full of surprises. NCWC, Maryville, Greensboro, CNU of course, Methodist, Ferrum and yes even SU and Averett have the potential to pull a few upsets.

All the teams look like they are set to play a tough out of conference schedule and depending on who comes out of the gate (first 3 games) the strongest may have the upper edge.

CNU is going to be there, but from what I witnessed last year, NCWC, Maryville, and Methodist could be hanging right there with them at the close. Averett, SU, Greensboro and Ferrum could also pull some major upsets and make this thing go right down to the wire.

Natually I am betting on Averett to be there but what do I know. I am just a washed up old offensive center that had his brains beat out 40 thousand times and have mash potatoes for knees.

I said back in June this was going to be a crazy year and it looks like it is headed in that direction. Only thing that hasn't happened is my winning on Averett. I am losing my shirt and more right now. Oh well, they are younger than I thought and hopefully by midseason will have some bugs worked out.

Yes, congrats to the Fighting Scots. I agree you have to win a few close and ugly games. However, starting this week, the stakes get higher and they will have to continue to get better each week.  8) GO SCOTS!!

Now.....about those trees blocking the Court Street end of Honaker Field. I certainly don't advocate vandalism but isn't there another solution to the problem other than putting trees there?  Perhaps another access point instead? I realize the baseball field blocks one side but could there not be an access created behind the stadium to keep people from pulling out on Court St. (if in fact that is the problem)   ???

Im just wondering if there are any Maryville fans on here that could give me an idea of what to expect from Huntingdon.  Adrian plays them this weekend and obviously it is a team that we here in Michigan dont know much about.  Any thoughts on how they play or info would be great!

As much as I want to go to Maryville this weekend, I can't. The trip is too long, and I don't plan on driving it. As for the game this weekend, I don't know who is going to win it.  Maryville and GC currently are 1 and 2 in alot of conference statistic catergories.  I hope I get to listen to the game, I tried listening to Maryville's game this weekend, but I couldn't get the Maryville's radio to work.  So, how do I get that to work.  Both games between GC and Maryville have been good games.  I would expect WCLegacy (Ryan Tripps) did the spread, the spread would be even or GC as close underdogs.

We need more football talk, conference games are starting this week and there is hardly any trash talking going on  :D ;D ;) :)

Thanks.  I should be ready for Saturday now.

The game was painful to watch being at Shentel Stadium in Winchester Saturday night. The offence was shut out again as the Hornets scored its only points from an interception. Something drastically needs to be done on the offence and I don't mean the players. I honestly belive the team can stack up with most teams but they are just being out coached right now. We all know all the Hornets do is run, run, run, and run up the middle. Opposing coaches are stacking the defense up on the line and stopping everything. Take a look at the game notes and you will see every 1st down starts with a run and 99% of the time it's up the middle. Barnes plays this 1950's style of offence and its killing them. The kids are playing with heart and giving the team everything they have. We have a QB that can throw the ball deep but is never given the opportunity to air it out and go for it. The defense for the most part is doing enough to win the games. They did play at the end like they gave up or most likely ran out of gas but its really come down to coach Barnes and his inability or stubbornness to change his play calling. Something needs to change.
Here is the Winchester Stars article on the game. http://www.winchesterstar.com/article_details.php?ArticleID=1148
"If last week was a step forward, then Saturday night was a full-blown backpedal. Albright College routed Shenandoah University 30-7 in front of a crowd of 2,073 at Shentel Stadium. It was a defeat the Hornets attributed to listlessness, but perhaps even more accurately, they attributed it to their inability to make enough critical plays."By Robert Niedzwiecki

I didn't attend the Albright game last Saturday, but saw the Bridgewater game two weeks ago. The offensive gameplan for Bridgewater was exactly as Uncle Jessie described it -- handoff to Diggs, pitch to Diggs, incomplete pass, punt. No imagination whatsoever. Is play action even in the Hornet playbook? I'm amazed that Diggs was able to get 100 yards vs. Albright with the entire defense keying on him. And Glick at QB looks totally out of it, unsure, confused, off-balance and off-the-mark. If a team can field 100 players like SU it should be able to find a competent passer.

The crowd at the Bridgewater game was mostly polite, but the mood was definitely "here we go again." After one handoff to Diggs up the middle for no gain, a guy next to me shouted "Yeah, we're gonna keep running that play 'til it works."

I'm new to D3 football, so answer me this -- at what point does sportsmanship end, and the fans have the right to voice their feelings about a team that appears to be in freefall?
