Here are my predictions for saturday.

NCWC VS. MU- This will be the matchup of the weekend in my eyes. We get to see 2 Offensive player of the year candidates on the field at Monarch stadium. Townsend and Hill. Hill has scored 8 times in 2 games and rushed for  316 yards. The young offensive line knows how to run the ball.

GC VS. MVC- Maryville has scored 70 pts. and rushed for 465 yards this year. They are 3-0, however, one thing about this team, they have not scored a single TD or FG in the 1st quarter yet this year. Looks like they have scored it all in the third and fourth. If greensboro could get up big at the half and keep it turned on, they can win this game. Disappointing numbers by Lowe, has only 1 TD on 51 attempts.

SU VS. FC- SU has 19 points in 3 games, WOW!! They cannot seem to find the endzone. They have 454 yards rushing, but only 1 TD. QB has thrown 4 INT'S and no TD's. Shentel was always hard to play at, btu i mean they keep this up, there won;t be anyone there to play for.

Where exactly was the prediction of Saturday's games?

allsky7, I truly belive without bias the Hornets could compete against many teams in the USAC if they would mix things up. The teams they are playing against are all stacking the defenders up on the line knowing that each play is up the middle. Every first down is a run up the middle 100% of the time. Do they have the players to win the USAC? No, not by any means. But for a change they have a QB that has an arm but he hardly never gets a chance to use it. His INT's this year are hard to judge because when they do let him pass they are so far behind in the score that I feel he is forcing it at times. Its just human nature to try to carry the whole team on your shoulders. They played well against Bridgewater and we all know they are no cake walk of a team. For a short time in that BC game Barnes was all of a sudden pass happy. It caught the Eagles off guard and they moved the ball down field and eventually leading up to the only offensive touchdown of the Hornets season. BC was no longer able to put its defenders on the line having to defend the pass. For the fans at Shentel its hard to watch. The crowd at times is yelling but that is few and far between. Its really hard for any fan to get into the game when all your home team does is gain 3 yrds a carry. This style of play (Wing T) I wouldent wish on anyone to have to watch including CNU's fans. ;) It is plain and simple an out dated system that needs to be tossed in the trash.

WOW!!! Hard to believe.  :o I guess it's one thing to have the studs to say we are going to line up and run it down your throat and be successful. Quite another to do that but not have the studs to execute it. Doesn't make any sense. Good luck to the Hornets. Hopefully SOMETHING will change.  8)

If the school joins the ODAC, would the newspaper have its own sportswriters?

Ok, I see how it favors Shenandoah.  Will it favor CNU to join the ACFC for football and the CAC for everything else.  Of course that would be after we added the GSAC.  Ok maybe that is wishful thinking, but I hope that adds more of a discussion.

Black Panthers

Uncle Jessie, Thanks for the link to the game notes and also the link to the reasoning as to why SU wants to leave the USAC. As the game notes say in this up coming game between the Panthers and you guy's you can see we are in the same boat in terms of offence. Your guy Barnes was the mastermind that put this system in place in the late 90's and why we don't get rid of it as well I have no idea. Neither team will ever be in a shoot out that's for sure. Its a good system to run part of the game if you have the personnel as we have done at times in the past but I have always thought you automatically put yourself in an disadvantage using it all the time. Im going up to SU this weekend for the first time. I've been curious to see what your stadium looks like and after reading the around the region about SU's stadium I'm looking forward to it.

Latest on Wheaton QB, Zach Ullirch:

I am an ex-Wheaton football player and recently got the update from one of the coaches on Zach Ullrich.  The preliminary diagnosis was that he suffered a hematoma on the brain (aka brain bleed), which is extremely serious and even life threatening.  It sounds like it was very serious for a while, but it looks like things have gotten better.  He has been responsive and the bleeding has stopped, which means he shouldn't require any surgery.  He isn't in the clear yet, so keep up your prayers, but things do look better.  The last thing I heard was that he was still in Barnes Jewish hospital in St. Louis.  This hospital is supposedly great at dealing with injuries like Zach's so I believe he is in great care.
That's all I know at the moment.  If I hear anything else I will let you guys know.  Just keep he and his family in your prayers.  As for his season, well that looks like it is pretty much over.

Thanks for the confirmation.  That is pretty much what I had heard via 3rd hand sources.  I didn't want to bug the coaches, so I figured I wait until information was more readily available on his condition.

This is consistent with what I had heard. I would add I heard the hit happened in the 1st quarter and he was checked regularly for concussion sypmtoms throughout first half as well as at halftime by doctor on the sidelines. He played one series in the 3rd quarter and collapsed on the sidelines. Because it was burst blood vessels it doesn't have the same sypmtoms of concussion.  Very scary.

Please keep this young man in your prayers.

Fighting Scot,

Your prediction is a little biased.  The Pride beat you last year and will beat you again this year.  The only thing you have going for you is that your team is 3-0 and at home and Oh yeah your fans cut down trees in a malicious manner..

Should be a good experience and win for the pride.

I had planned to come on here and give CNU85 a hard time about his new CNUsports website.

But after reading kickerdad's post, I'm in no mood to be jovial. I think I'll log off for the evening. I hope that the young man from Wheaton is okay and prayers go out for him from Winchester.

...doesn't ferrum run a true triple option offense??  the wing T is substantially different from the option....much more pulling, trapping, counters and scissors and little (comparitively speaking) option plays out of a wing T - really the only similarity is the fact that you run a lot in both

mu ran the wing T (it was really a wing/option hybrid, i think) during rocket's first few years - i agree with mcftbl51...the fullback is key

i think one of the things that i like most about coach sypult is his ability to adapt to the players he has...when i first started following mu football in the mid 90's, they ran a pro set throught the brian turner era and even into papi's day as the qb - rocket's first three years brought a plethora of rb talent, and hence, the wing/option thingy - the coaches then realized they weren't going to have a big bruising fb and had a qb who could really wing it (rocket's sr year) and went to the spread with some spread option stuff - early in the year last year with the mobile bartee...lots of spread option - once parks took over, more spread - less option and some I formation - in the guilford game, the monarchs were multiple, but seemed to favor having parks under center in the I

there are some coaches who simply conform their players to their system and others who adapt their system to their players...as a fan, i favor the latter, especially when the former doesn't seem to be working :)

pat...i don't really understand this question...it seems as though you are being critical of the su newspaper for allowing the sid to write sports stories...how is the author of a story in the su newspaper germane to this situation in any way??  does the odac require schools to have their own sportswriters as part of it's constitution and membership requirements?

Oh yeah just like you aren't biased.  Last year was just a fluke anyway.  How did you finish in the league last year??  Oh yeah that's right behind Maryville.  The only thing on the pride that will be rolling are the bus wheels back to Greensboro with a second loss.
