After minimal thought, I've decided not to go to the CNU/GC game. It will be the first CNU game I've missed this year. I promised my time to my daughter on Saturday and the road trip would interfere. I'm sure come game time she'll be out with friends, so I will be home listening on the radio. It would have been fun to meet PSBBG and Gullet.....

True, true. That is why I have tried to make it clear that when I have brought up this rock slide the Hornets are in that it is not personal and that I really like the guy myself. I like what he be lives in out of life and he demands respect from his players and makes sure they all respect everyone on campus. SU has a lot of alternative life styles in campus and as far as I know no problems have ever popped up between the football players and anyone else. Barnes deserves much credit to that. My biggest thing has just been the Wing T, absolutely no offence this year or really going back to last year (avg 7 points per game). Honestly it has never scored a lot of points and it has put the team at a disadvantage from the very beginning. The team has won only 1 USAC game in the last 3 seasons. We all know I'm a huge Hornet fan. So I do not like calling for a change. But if he stays he needs to demonstrate that yes the Hornets have a problem and its getting bigger. He should throw the play book in the trash and start from scratch. Other wise this problem is going to get worse. But as Musa wrote in the paper and Black panthers pointed out the administration is happy as long as the tuition dollars are being paid and the roster is full. I would not hope for this problem on any team or fans. Its not fun and it hurts to see the Hornets to be the butt of all jokes from other posters. I'm not saying I know all the answers. But its just clear something needs to be done.

I feel your pain Uncle J. It sucks when your team isn't doing well and the insanity continues.

Insanity - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

fans like winners. period. we always want more. I wonder what it's like to be a Mt Union fan?

Uncle Jessie

Its probably feels like your in football heaven. Most of those fans most likely don't know how good they have it unfortunately.

But makes you wonder if the fans didn't begin to question why they weren't resetting the scoring record for a quarter every week.

You can't satisfy all the fans at any time. I remember one guy calling into a radio show the day after UT won the BCS, what 10 year ago now, and griping that the hype around the championship game had distracted the coaching staff and they'd lost focus on recruiting while they were a championship.

I think it may have been then the last time i peed on myself from laughing 8)

i've just been offered a job coaching a mighty mite team and i was thinking of installing the wing t - i think there is a team in the usasac that runs this offense - i was wondering if anyone could tell me which team runs it, how many points per game they've scored over, say, the last 9 games and if they've had any success (win/loss wise) with the offense?  i've heard it's a real crowd pleaser, as well, so i'm thinking this offense might be a real draw for the local community...you know, we want to give the crowd a good show - does anyone have any insight?  thanks :)

did anyone in their right mind think the mu/au game this weekend could POSSIBLY determine last place in the conference?...i know i didn't, and i'm hoping that it doesn't, either way...

I agree with your analysis, Uncle Jesse. For over 2o years I saw, up close and very near the action, many of the same teams play year in and year out. I've seen some schools run the same defense and offense over and over again. I have also seen some coaches who adapted their game to the caliber and strengths of their players. They were usually the teams that built dynasties. I recall when NCWC played their initial season. The offense they attempted to run in the begining was not suitable for a player like Townsend. The following year ajustments were made to an offensive style of play that suits the strengths of his players. It will be interesting to see what adjustments will be made after Townsend is gone.

I think Pisgah High runs it. Havelock lost a state championship in 75 to that wing T.
Not to mention we had 2 TDs called back.

Really oh well, I was going to have a huge tailgate party before the game.  More for me I guess, oh well  ;).  I was going to throw a big party in hopes that we WILL beat CNU for the first time ever.  :D

pisgah vs tuscola...big time game back then?

MU_ftbl51

Now you guys are getting into my stomping grounds. Tuscola and Pisgah is by far the biggest rivalry in High school. It always has been. They shut the town of waynesville down and traffic is backed up off of I-40 to even get to canton. Neither one of these teams now run the Wing-T more of a spread type.
I  however, coach a team at South Meck High School in Charlotte NC and it works great here, i mean we have rushed for 2000 yards in 6 games, so i guess its working. The WING-T is mainly designed for misdirection. However, like i said you have to have a fullback that is a power runner to make it work. It is not a throwing offense either. SU just doesnt have the big fullback type to run this offense. A couple of years ago, the reason they won with this is because they had Frates and Lacey and Mcgee. All of these backs could run this offense well because Frates was the man. Coach Barnes now doesnt have the personel to run this offense type, so it is time to change. But, i dont think that is going to happen any time soon. Looking at their roster, they have some pretty decent wide reciever type of guys, why not throw the ball a little more or run the zone or something. Get out of the old school style.

The wing-T/wishbone/option offense just isn't successful at the college level anymore.  Guys on defense are just to quick and to disciplined for that type of offense to have much success.  Even if you fool the LB for that split second, most are quick enough to get back to the ball before much damage is done.  Of course, every once in a while there will be that team that comes through running one of these offenses and have success but that is now the exception and not the rule.  You are even starting to see these offenses fade away at the high school level.

Hey Narch...if you need a "real quick footed" QB to run the offense on your team, I know where to find one  ;)

I agree, although Ferrum gave Bridgewater fits with it last year
