They have talent- sure, yet they also seem to be very disciplined in their attack and play. Not to mention well coached. I find it hard to believe that the game might only draw 3000- Maryville has consistently had over that at their home games this season. It really helped to start 2-0 on the road before coming home. The school and community has really been waiting and supportive of the Scots.

CNU usually has a big crowd on opening day and then a huge crowd on family weekend. Opening day is usually 4,000+...family day around 5,000...then the other 3 games are around the 3,000 mark. I would imagine they will be bigger this year since the remaining 2 home game are against MC and NCW and each game could determine conference champ.

I've never seen Maryville....the one year they were at CNU, was the only year I didn't have season tix and I didn't go...I remember listening to it with headphones on the radio. It was ugly.

It really is great the local support the scots get.  Especially with UT just 20 minutes or so down the road.  I think the guys really feed off the crowd and it just seems like the crowd keeps getting bigger every week...

How about some discussion about the mystique that is POMOCO Stadium? What makes CNU so extremely difficult to beat at home? They probably have the best in-conference home record percentage in the country. With that being said I have heard (never been there) that the facility is very nice.

On that subject, you do know what POMOCO stands for don't you? Check the last two graphs for the answer. ::)

Personal fouls I can handle. Guys get frustrated. The league has attemped to address the helmets being torn off that seems unusually frequent in the USAC, but Ive seen it less this year than last so maybe that's working.

Any MC fans feeling truly out of their minds crazy and willing to attempt a through the night car trip to Newport news after WB and Oak Ridge game, send me a message.

From my perspective (elevator to the air conditioned press box with some primo munchies and wireless) Its close to perfect!!!

Reserving final judgement till I get to experience pre-game (had to rush in last time because of a directions issue) and see how it is regular season vs postseason crowd wise.

+ one million from me for being the first cnu fan to ever publicly admit this :)

Wow Narch..  I appreciate your honesty.  CNU has a tremendous advantage over the conference opponents in recruiting.   Except for CNU, rest of the schools are between $26 - 32,000.  CNU being a state school is around $10 - 12,000 (room, board, tuition).   It doesn't matter about facilities or location, it comes down to the players and CNU has that advantage.  Compare CNU with the other sports and they are near the top in almost every sport.  It's not because the coaches are better than the rest of the conference coaches, it just they are able to beat the other schools in recruiting because of the cost of going to school at CNU.....

When the NCAA starts talking about splitting up D3, that's where the split should occur, between state and private schools.

Allsky7,

When MC played H-S in the last game of the 2003 season, the Scots traveled with only 42 players because 1/2 of the team got sick that week.  Seven defensive starters did not make the trip and 3 offensive linemen had to go on the other side of the ball to play on the defensive line.  H-S only threw 1 pass in the second half and ran very basic offensive plays.  We were greatly outmanned that day against a very good H-S team.  Coach I never held anything against H-S on the score and used that game as motivation to get the program better.  And it has.....

If there is a team out there that likes to run up the score on other teams is Averett and that is probably a reason why they are getting pounded by teams this year.   Last season Averett was up on MC by 4 TD's with 5 minutes left in the game and they ran a fake punt on the Scots.  That led to a potential fight at the end of the game and thankfully our coaching staff grabbed our players back to our sideline which prevented a bad scene.....

Fighting Scott,

In defense of Averett on the final game last year with Maryville. The coaches let Seniors play postions they had never played before i.e. Parsons (QB) was playing LB, the punter was on the line and some that hadn't seen much action all year was in there playing. Some defensive guys playing offense, etc. There were excited and trying to have fun their final game of their careers. I don't think the coaches were calling for fake punts. Also if you remember correctly Maryville scored 3 times in the final 7 or 8 minutes while Averett had all these subs in there. They almost had too much fun. They let you come back to within 14 points. I went back and looked at the stats and there is no mention of the fake punt, I honestly didn't see it (talking too much) but the stats do show that Averett kept the ball on the ground during the last part of the 4th. I don't belive Averett ran the score on up on anyone last year, hell they only beat SU 18 to zip. Everyone other win was close with execption of Greensboro. Again, when I look at the stats they had the subs and appeared to be running with exception of a couple of passes first part of 4th.

I am sure if Maryville wants payback they will be able to do it this year. And hopefully it will be a clean game on both sides.

ProudFightingScot

Kickerdad, There was a fake punt ran around the 50 yard line on 4th and 6.  There was 4:30 left on the clock I believe.  And Averett was up by 28 at the time.  The pass was incomplete, but in any case that was unnecessary.  That is great he was getting seniors in, but when the score was getting inflated, he shouldn't have done things that even gave the appearance of running up the score.  Particularly since he was losing so much from his team the following year and the favor may be returned.  I am sure they should will want some sort of payback, but I don't see any reason they would be dirty.  Probably just another hard nosed game in the USA South.

Fighting Scot,

I understand you point and had the shoe been on the other foot, I am sure I would have the same feelings you do.

I hope we can offer a competive game when we get to Maryville. Right now it is not looking so good. Maybe you and I will get a chance to meet. I certainly hope the weather is cooler than year before last when we came the first week in Sept. It was so hot then the wife had to go find an umbrella to shade with. Look forward to coming back one more time. Your campus is beautiful (reminds me a little of William & Mary) and your stadium and playing field is great. Just wish you could have a bathroom on the visitor side.

You think you could put in an order for snow that weekend.

this is a debate that has been hashed and re-hashed so many times i've lost count...i've come to the conclussion that i like cnu in the conference because it makes beating them even sweeter (even though it doesn't happen much in football :))
