final 3rd down info

NCW 7/14
CNU 3/14......

only hope for CNU now is to win out and have NCW lose the next 2....and I can't see that happening!! NCW is too good....they have an excellent chance of first team in history to run the table in conference play!

Coach K is at home and ok....blood pressure was elevated...imagine that a coach with elevated blood pressure during a game.  :D

Seriously, I'm glad he's ok and at home!!

BAtteredbard, Proudscot.....

what is happening at MC? wow - that's not good stuff. I would never have thought that at any point in the season MC would have the same conference record as Shenandoah!! If MC wins out, they finish a respectable 7-3....so, I guess it's not as bad as it seems. But man, I was expecting MC to do better.

What are your thoughts, guys?

Happy to hear he is doing well!!  Congrats to CNU for a tremendous effort today. No quit in those players, gallant effort! Just wish I could have seen it, but your radio guys did a great job!!

CNU85

I'll tell them you said that. I was the third guy in the booth they kept referring to.

one down...2 to go...

nice win today monarchs!

congrats to ncwc, su and fc as well...

nicely done Narch!

narch

glad to hear coach k is alright...

parks had an outstanding day today going 18/28 for 353 and 4 td's...mu rb's did NOTHING, though...as a team mu had 24 carries for 17 yards....ouch - hill got just 3 carries for 4 yards - i hope he can get healthy for the final 2 games of his mu career, because the monarchs need the threat of a running game to win these last 2 games

mc was just the opposite with 3 players rushing for 100+ (they outgained mu by 158 total yards and 432 yards on the ground), but still lost

since the ncwc debacle, parks has been VERY good, going 90/140 (64.3%) for 1210 yards, 5 td's and 1 int through the air and rushing 67 times for 233 yards (3.5 ypc) and 1 td...that's almost 290 yards per game of total offense in his last 5 games...i think the monarchs have a qb who is getting it right now and some wr's that are making plays for him...there were 3 40+ yard plays in the passing game today

reading the play-by-play, i've also got to commend mu punter leigh manley...he had 6 punts today that pinned mc deep (all were inside the 12 yard line) and really allowed the monarchs to win the field position battle - here are the results of his punts today 1.) to the mc 6, fair catch 2.) to the mc 10, fair catch 3.) to the mc 8, 3yd ret 4.) to the mc 11, 1 yd ret 5.) to the mc 8, no ret 6.) to the mc 9, fair catch - he had a 41.5 average with a 40.8 net average and all were inside the 12...good day for the punter and punt coverage teams

congrats NCW... Ill say more tomorrow.

Black Panthers

I have not been able to get on here much lately for my computer crashed on me a few weeks back. But the Panthers are riding high. Who would had thought it that with two weeks left in the season that Ferrum would have a shot at the conference. I bet no one would had thought they would be in this situation right now at the start of the season. After a win against Greensboro next week will of course be a strong NCW team. Nice win to the Wesleyan boys on beating CNWHO yesterday. If somehow a gift from the football gods will give Ferrum a win Saturday They will have a shot at the who. Come on Panthers. You control your own destiny.  ;D  Not too many other teams can say that this late in the season.

SU97

And I thought SU with two conference wins was impossible:  BUT THIS IS SIMPLY AMAZING.

I ran across it on ESPN this morning, but the folks at D3 are always on point: http://www.d3football.com/notables/2007/10/27/Trinity+tops+Millsaps+with+miracle+finish

Just amazing.

narch

looks like the scots fans had a fun homecoming despite the loss...not a single post today...must have been a little too much homecoming 'shine flowing in the tn mountains yesterday :)

narch

is su still running the wing t :) - on nov 10 i'd like them to go back to playing offense the way they did last year and in the early part of this season, please :)

narch....here is your post.  ;)

Congrats to the Monarchs for their W over MC yesterday. A couple of random comments in no particular order: ( I had a 5 hour ride this AM to think about it  ;D) Let me preface by saying that (as previously discussed) it is difficult to give a fair evalution after one game but here goes)

- The Scots are a good football team but they are not over the hump yet. In fairness, they are very young but they are getting there.
- These are hard to find at the D3 level but IMO, they are missing a couple big play/impact players.
- Key play #1....2nd Q late hit no call on the NE end of the field with MC up 7 to 0 and driving in the red zone. I was 15 feet from it!! Big change in MO that MU capitalized on.
- Key play #2...MU TD at the end of the first half. Ball hit MC defender in the hands and went through. MU receiver catches the deflection and scores. You must intercept that ball. Hats off to the the MU receiver for making the play.
- Key play #3...MC going for it 4th and 1 at midfield and not making it with approx 6 minutes to play up 23 to 20. Punt the ball and make MU drive the length of the field. If they do, then tip your hat and congratulate them.
-Key play #4....After MU went up 27 to 23 with under 2:00 to play. MC moves the the ball to around midfield. MC spikes the ball to stop the clock on 3rd down with 44 seconds and one timeout remaining. WHY!?!? Plenty of time to run two plays. MC looked a little disorganized trying to run the 2 minute drill. The result of youth?

My hats off to the MC for not folding down 20 to 7 at half. I am still a proud Fighting Scot. No more talk about being 8 and 2. I'm guilty!!  :-[  6 and 3 ain't a bad record. Let's go one at a time ;D
One last comment that I'm sure may draw some ire because it is aimed at my fellow Scots. To the several hundred (at least) tailgaters outside the fence (on Victory Hill of all places) and those still in the parking lot more worried about their next beer or getting laid...... May I suggest getting your hind ends down AROUND the field uplifting the Scots. At least in the 4th Q when the game was on the line. Many of you were former players!!  >:( Shame on you. There was a great crowd and there were MANY fans in the stadium cheering but there should have been several hundred more. GO SCOTS!!  8)

The MDT package on the MC MU game
http://www.thedailytimes.com/article/20071028/SPORTS/71028017

Methodist finally stopped the run with some help from the Scots in the fourth. QB ran the wrong play on fourth down pitching the ball to a back who was blocking wide rather than handing off to the other back who had been getting seven and eight up the middle every carry the second half. Result was a fumble when the ball hit the surprised blocker.
Wall left game on last drive for a few plays and second string guy spikes the ball on first and third down misreading sideline signal from coaching stafff.

MC never stopped Parks passing. Even when they did they didn't. Sure interception at end of first half slips through safety's hands and ricochets high where the receiver grabs it out of the air with no one left between him and end zone. In any other classification, we'd be reviewing the SportsCenter commentary on that play.

What strick me was Wall hit his first four and last four passes but was 0-for-11 in between. Overthrew open guys consistently underneath in that span and was bouncing up and down in the pocket like he was jumping rope.

Last one was ierulli opened the bag of tricks with the fake field goal and the kicker sprints left gets the first and goal but fullback is called for holding far from the kicker. brings the whole thing back and the kicker is winded, upset, whatever misses badly on the field goal try barely got any leg in the kick at all.

MC has to find a way to pass. It was obvious on the last drives of second qtr and fourth qtr that they had no confidence in the passing game and little performance.

Congrats to methodist though and I hope you guys know what a great coach you have. Sypult cracks me up every time I talk to him. he's a guaranteed golden quote!
