Although I have never even heard this coach's name before, I have a feeling of loss right now. My prayers go out to his family and his friends, especially to ProudFightingScot!

My son phoned me today from Knoxville to inform me of Cody's untimely death. My heart felt sympathy goes out to his family and to the MC community. Cody was an inspiration to everyone he met, played and coached with. He was a little giant on and off the field. On a personal note: He always remembered me and never failed to take time to walk over and say "hi", no matter how long it had been since we'd last seen one another. He epitomized the D-III football student athlete and he will be missed.

I have some really sad news to report.  Last night, the Fighting Scots secondary coach Cody Bowers was in a car wreck and died.  Details are still coming in and are a little sketchy at the moment but it is a very sad situation.  I knew Cody personally for 7 years now as I went to college with him and we were good friends.  He was a great man and a great friend.  I can't say enough about his kindness and willing to be there when you needed any help.  I greatly miss him already.  He was a true fighting scot.  Cody will be greatly missed not only by me, but also by the entire Maryville community.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this most difficult time.

I met Cody at the tailgate several hours prior to the Methodist HC game this year. He and I chatted about MC football for 10 or 15 minutes. I was very impressed with this young man and that he took the time to come by and introduce himself to some of the old timers. He genuinely seemed appreciative of all the folks who came back to campus to support the Scots. This is just terrible news.  :'(

This is really bothering me. The place that he crashed is the most unlikely of places for something like this to happen. Alcoa Highway....yes...College Woods Ln....no. I took a stroll down this road to the House In The Woods the AM of HC. Very surreal. My prayers are with Cody's family and friends.  :(

my heart goes out to the entire m'ville community and the family and friends of this coach...sounds like they lost a great person, friend and coach

wow, it is a shame for the lose and my prayers go out to the family and team.  it really puts things in perspective and reminds us all that it is just a game, but the people we meet along the way are what makes it so special.

I also heard that it was foggy that night, it probably had something to do with it.  This is just so surreal like it can't be real.  You never really know how long you have.  He was my friend and it just hurts.  I would just give anything to get my friend back.  The Scots community will band together as Cody would have wanted and we will get through this together.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

My thoughts and prayers to everyone at Maryville, and especially to this young man's family.

I won't be around THIS site much over the next three days, and I don't want this to be forgotten:

Good luck to the North Carolina Wesleyan Battlin' Bishops!!!
Been wrong before.  Will be wrong again.

Below is the link to the stories on Cody's death.

It was a very hard day around campus but one thing that I thought relevant — one of Cody's last tasks Monday afternoon was arranging for subway to deliver lunch to NCW. The Bishops cafaterias were closing up for the holiday break and as a show of support Maryville bought the team lunch.

He was just a good guy.

The aciddent experts are still back stepping the incident and there are some updates coming out but for my part I'm sticking with who he was and not how he left.

Batterboard,

Please pass our thanks to the Daily Times staff on the sensativity in reporting Cody's death from the news articles from the past few days.  I have been in contact with many of my friends from Maryville and most have read the articles to keep them informed on this tragedy.   I was very impressed with the article you wrote and am posting it so others could read it as well.

I still can't get over how the last thing Cody did at Maryville was to arrange sandwiches to be sent to the NC Weslyan coaching staff so things could be a little easier for them during their preparation for their playoff game this weekend.....

Classy guy....
