Narch, since the end of the regular season (baseball), I though I wouldn't have to hear, see, or read anything related to Methodist for about 5 months.  BUT, I open the front page of the paper and see certain players from my area (FL) making decisions to play for your football team.  Bergstol, a three year starter from Centennial High School, should have a pretty good future as a QB.  Whoever the connection down here may be I would capatalize on it.  A majority of the kids who play football or baseball down here don't really know about D3.  You could probably pull a championship caliber team from the freshman class for 08-09 from the d1 colleges down here.  These kids grow up thinking U of F, FSU, Miami, USF, UCF and the sad thing is alot of the talent gets wasted.

     Not sure how it is these days but back in the day, we (Fighting Scots) had more players from FLA than any other state. (After TN of course)  I don't recall the exact numbers but I would say it was at least 25%. With FLA not being a border state of TN, I would say that 25% is a lot. A ton of talent in FLA for sure. 8)
     Speaking of FLA, one of my most cherished memories is the 1985 Sugar Bowl in which the Tennessee Vols put an old fashioned 35 to 7 butt whooping on a Vinny & Co. Miami team that had as much swagger as my South Florida Fighting Scot teammates. When they came back to campus from Christmas Break, I had never seen such a quiet and humbled bunch. It warms my heart to this very day!!

The 2007 media guide listed 29 players from Florida on the Fighting Scots roster (out of 104 players).  As a young MC grad, there has been a big effort by the coaching staff to recruit Florida players during the past 5 seasons.  They are probably a big reason for the improvement of the football program...

I'm not seeing much talk about the upcoming season.  MC comes back with alot of players,  CNU will be tough as always and Ferrum could be scary with their offense...

Seems to be lots of talent in Florida. Averett currently has 24 on the roster that hail from Florida. I know there were more during the season but they have already removed the seniors from the roster. Plus they were recruiting heavily in Florida and that will mean additional guys from the Sunshine State coming in.

It amazes me that with all that talent, Florida doesn't have any DIII colleges.

P.S. No Comment on Averett's upcoming season. I ran my mouth last year thinking there we were going to be over 500 and look where that went. Huge surprise to everyone, but when you lose 26 seniors it creates a huge wake wash. Averett has Bridgewater College on the schedule for the first game this year. They aren't Mount Union (thank God) but Bridgewater is always ranked way up there. Averett will know real quick what the season has in store after the first game. However they jump out of the fire into the pan the second game with Guildford and then take on W&L. All this before conference play - the picture will be clear. People will disagree but I believe playing Mt. Union had a huge impact on the way the coaches and players began preparing for this year. It began at 6:00 am the day after the last game of the season with Maryville.

Schools from all over the country come here to recruit.  It would be hard to keep a kid home to play d3 if he could go to some northern or midwest schools and play d1.

imagine, though, if all of the top d3 florida talent stayed in state...that would be a playoff caliber roster, for sure...

When will we start to see things like Coaches Polls/Predictions, D3 predictions, etc. come out?

We see the first season previews within the next week, the first conference coaches polls in July and Kickoff 2008 in August! (Probably Aug. 26 for the Sept. 6 openers.)

Methodist has another good young QB coming from my former school, South View. I pushed and pushed for him to go to MU, and I finally got my wish. Don't be surprised if he starts early and ends up with every Methodist passing record. Just remember who told you first.
