is everyone ready for the season to start? I know I am waiting for the annual showdown with Guilford.

D3Newbie

Looking forward to watching the Guilford game. Last one I was at was the overtime field goal game.

Anyone know anything about how The Pride looks this year at practice?  Thanks!

Yeah, I was also at that 2006 game ... I don't think I'd ever seen a FG attempt actually land directly on top of the upright!  When that was waved off, Guilford won 36-30 in 2 OT when Josh Vogelbach hooked up on a 25-yard walk-off strike down the left side to Chris Barnette.  In fact, all of the games the last three years have been exciting ... hope this year is too.  I look forward to meeting some fans at the game.

is there going to be a pickem this year?

I hope there will be, but I can't run it this year. Too much going on with my ATR column to run the numbers for a pick-em contest.

I hope someone will accept the duties.

I vote for CNU85

i totally agree with that.....+1.......it is always a exciting game at least all of the ones that i have seen. What is the latest on Josh, I heard that he has still having problems with his shoulder that he injured in our game last season.

The boys in blue from CNU are looking good, somewhat young but looking good. Matt Long at QB is going to open up the play book alot in my opinion and the O-line should be tough. The back field will be stacked and the D-line will get after it all day as always. We have a big scrimmage against Hamden- sydney (spelling sorry) this weekend, so hopefully we will get to see how tough the Captains will be this year.  Tough opener (as always at CNU) against top five Wesley, and I'll be there tail-gateing my A$$ off.  Im excited about this year fellas, wish I had another year of eligability. Good luck to all the teams in the USAC.

Just started reading Kickoff. So far, another great job by Pat and his crew. I only have one disagreement and I hope the d3football.com crew knows something I don't. They have CNU finishing at 9-1. Not too sure about that. But I'll take it!

Also been reading the CNU media guide at cnusports.com. On paper, they have some very interesting new guys. A QB that passed for over 3,000 yds in his senior season. All-State players. All-State track guy. Even a kid I once coached in baseball. An All-State AAA football player who was also a starter on the coaches state all-star team.

One thing I did notice and kudos to CNU coaches and to the young men they recruited. Many of CNU players were members of the National Honor Society. They also were involved in school clubs, graduated with honors, were youth mentors, involved in church, on and on.... If you ever ask yourself about today's generation, go take a peak at the bios of these young men. I know I'm bragging a little about CNU. But hey -seriously, go take a look at the media guide. CNU recruits character and academics as much as football talent. D3 the way it's supposed to be!

HAHAHA. I wish I could find the time. My fear is I would start out ok, and then something would come up with work or family that would let you guys down. Then the fun would be gone. Heck, last year I didn't have time to turn in  my picks every week.  And now this year, I've joined a second fantasy league. I've been so busy this year I haven't played golf since May!!!!!!! That's a crime!

Great question on CNU -- Keith and I vary widely on our opinions here. He wanted to rank CNU in the 20s and I wanted to rank them in the 60s. It's probably the team we are furthest apart on.

Thanks.  I've seen all eleven GC vs GC games, so my streak's still alive!  I've been on the practice field sideline a couple of times to watch Josh throw and haven't noticed any problems, but there may be an underlying problem of which I'm not aware.  I'll check around and see what I can discover.

Let me know if you're attending the Sept. 6 game - I'd like to say hello.

That is interesting Pat. I believe the issue is that we really don't know about the offense until they get on the field. I think the defense, especially the line, will be one of the best in the region. The issue with the offense is that the QB and WR positions are unknown. The line is unknown. Starting the season against Wesley and Salisbury might not be the best way for the offense to "find itself".

The other side of the coin is that in past years, when CNU had pre-season holes, Kelchner and his coaches found answers. So, the pragmatic side of me says 7-3. The "give the coaches the benefit of doubt" side of me says 9-1 or 8-2 are quite possible.

A good offensive showing in game #1 would be tremendous news and a huge boost of confidence and a statement to the region and conference. A poor offensive game #1 might not mean anything at all.
