As for the name-calling that happened with GC...was any of it the N word?  Because hopefully proudfightingscot will realize I'm not lying if more than 1 school claims to have experienced the same name calling.

I don't know if the 'N' word was used but last year but I do remember our Huntingdon group being told to 'Take your sorry a**es back to Alabama' as the team was headed back to the locker room after the game.
It sounds to me like something does need to be done about this group of fans before something serious happens.

You are right, southernstyle.  I have not heard about this problem, but there is no place for this kind of behavior and I apologize for our fans.  Those alums need to show some class and hope our officials have done something to not let it happen again.  That group of alums use to be on the other side of the stadium, but were moved by the school to outside the gate between the stadium and lockerroom.  I hope the new AD at Maryville does a better job with that group this year.

I have traveled to Maryville twice now when Averett played there and at no time did I witness any behavior from the Maryville faithful that was out of order. I admit they have a strong fan base and they are very vocal during the game (which is fine). The coach's wife was one of their strongest last year and that is good too. He has to feel proud that this family is right there backing him and team. However, there was never any thing said/yelled during the game or after that would have been taken as an insult. Actually, after the game, I personally had conversation with several Maryville folks and they were pleasantly nice and cordial. Actually I have never experienced any hostility at any of the USA-South games or any of the out of conference games Averett has played. Most of our out of conference games with exception of Mt. Union has been with ODAC teams. The only time I felt a little uncomfortable was at Methodist. The only reason for that was the visitors have to sit on the home side, which probably makes both sides uncomfortable. Again the folks at Methodist are warm and friendly and treated us with respect. We both fussed about the same thing and that was officating that everyone (both sides) felt needed to be consistent. By the way Papi, looking forward to coming back to your neck of the woods in 2 weeks.

You guys have been whining about pickems and predictions. Heres one for you.

CNU v. Wilkes...............................CNU

A good 1st half against a top 10 team. If they can work the kinks out CNU will be on top this week

Shenandoah v. Ferrum.................Shenandoah

SU's defense looks strong this year, enough to beat the panthers by a touchdown.

Greensboro v. Maryville.................Maryville

Neither team has beaten anyone of substance. Tough to call but Maryville's defense will be the biggest factor

Averett v. Washington & Lee         W & L

Averett is the only USASAC team to lose to bridgewater this year. But then again W&L isn't much better.

Methodist v. NC Wesleyan             NCW

Even without the QB from last year, NC has too much speed for Methodist to handle.

'02, '03, '04, '06...    4 years, 4 championships...

CNU v. Wilkes...............................CNU
CNU is hungrey for a victory as well as playing time.

Shenandoah v. Ferrum.................Ferrum

Shenandoah will have to stop the option

Greensboro v. Maryville.................Maryville

Maryville only because they are at home and they are seeing red having lost 2 in a row.

Averett v. Washington & Lee         Averett

You really thing I am going against my son's team? NOT

Methodist v. NC Wesleyan             NCW

Home field advantgage is the only reason I pick NCW. This may be the upset of the day but Methodist folks won't consider it an upset.

ferrum just because 14 points more wins

Thanks for the link Ralph.  Actually if you follow what is linked it doesn't go anywhere b/c of the last part.  I just fixed it above.  I was at that ceremony and it was really nice tribute to Cody and the rest of the past Fighting Scots.  Cody's family was there when it was unveiled.

I sure appreciate  the confidence many of you have for NCWC against Methodist. I will say this. they have continued to improve each week. Either way, I think it will be a close game. Turnovers may be the factor that decides the winner.

Sorry I did not get this up sooner, but for any CNU fans heading to Northeast PA for Saturday's game at Wilkes, please fell free to leave a comment on the USAC or MAC boards, or send me a message if you need any directions in the local area to the Ralston Field Complex, or to anything else you may need to find during your time in Wilkes-Barre.

While I have not seen this year's version of the Colonels, I've worked for the program over the last 4 seasons- while they have not come out on top yet this season, they are a strong and resolute group that will be hungry for the home opener. All in all, it has the potential to be a great game, so we hope to see many of you there :) Have a safe trip and enjoy the tailgating for everyone who comes!

There's always hope for the rushing game, they didn't do too well last week, but they threw so much more than they tried to run.

I think they might be missing one of their starting RBs, but they do have pretty good backups.

With Lowe healthy and Cap having time to throw, they should beat Maryville. I don't know anything about M's defense, but I know the Pride's defense is really solid. That is why they have the victories they have.

Greensboro - 14
Maryville - 7

Good defenses? Or weak offenses? :-\

Roll Pride !!!!

ProudFightingScot

Maryville's Defense is actually pretty solid.  As long as their offense is clicking we should be just fine.

This should be a good game.  I am just excited to get into conference play.  Do you know if Greensboro streams their games on line so we can watch it?

Very cool!! Thanks for the link. I talked with Cody for the first and only time before last years HC game. We talked about Fighting Scots football, past and present. The thing that I remember most about him was an aura of optimism and pride he had about being a part of Maryville College football. You could feel it just being in his presence. I look forward to touching the rock on October 18th. It will have a double meaning for me. 8)
