Well the mid-point of the season has hit and wanted to spark up a little conversational piece here.

Name and describe your thoughts on the top three players at the following positions in the USAS through the midpoint of the season. Do not name players off of last year and potential, solely off of their play on the field through the first 5 or 6 games.

QB, RB, WR, TE, DE, DT, LB, DB, K, P, Return Specialist

Just thought this would receive some good feedback and see where these players rank at seasons end as voted by the coaches.

Thanks,

UBM

Nice thought, unbi - here are few I know of that could make this a winning season for the Pride!

WR = Torrey Lowe

LB = Brick Crowder

DB = Andreas Platt

Return Specialist = Torrey Lowe

The QB position is especially hard for picking a top one ... let alone a top three. :-[ Here's why:

CNU has been flipping back and forth between Long and Gaines. And Ferrum also has been using two players, Mayo and Dobson, consistently throughout the season.

That has dilluted their stats considerably, making none of those players really stand out above the crowd -- even if they are skilled and successful on the field.

One other contender might have been Hunt, Maryville's star frosh, but he was injured last week. Not sure how long he's out for.

Bottom line: Is it safe to say that with the graduations of Townsend, Faison and Parks, there's no QB(s) who's truely heads above the others in the conference?

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Sound logic on the QB Ryan, but I really believe that you will see Mayo rise to the top of the USAS. If not this year then next year. He is a talent that will surprise a lot of people.  (I know I am biased, but this guy is very good,)

So far my vote for QB is Mayo from Ferrum.  Was the difference in the Maryville-Ferrum game.  Our defense had a hard tackling him and is scary in the open field.  Also, Ferrum's NG was a dominate player during the game.....

In 4 years, Lowe has not had a big game against MC.  Caught 3 passes for 23 yards earlier this year against the Fighting Scots.....

Top players for Maryville

RB - Hightower

WR - Idelette

OL - Browning

DL - Clancy, Harris, Rutgerson

LB - Chewning

DB - Locke

PK - Daniell

Yes, against Maryville Lowe only had 23 yards on 3 catches, a credit to a tough Scot defense. However he scored on one of those catches in a close 22-13 game. He also had two punt returns for 50 yards and two kickoff returns for 57 yards for a total of 130 yards. Maybe not a big game, but gave the Pride a good shot at a win. :-\

Last two games for Brick Crowder = Maryville: 6 Solo  8 Assists  14 Total and CNU: 4 solo 10 Assists 14 Total

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and you gotta love a LB named BRICK ! ! ! ! :o

ROLL PRIDE ! ! ! !

Yeah,
Brick is a great name, but his last name is cool too!

Allen C......(Crowder)  no relation :)

CNU @ Maryville.............................. ...Maryville by 3    Upset of week

Shenandoah @ Greensboro.................Shenandoah by 14

Averett @ NCWC................................Averett by 10

Ferrum @ Methodist...........................Ferrum by 13        Methodist is better than their record

footballsouthernstyle 1

CNU BIG OVER THE hillbillies BY 23

NCWC OVER AVERETT BY 12

FERRUM OVER MU BY 19

T Lowe makes plays... thats the bottom line.  Without him Greensboro would have trouble winning games this year.  He could be on there for WR or ST

I heard from one of my Maryville sources that their QB Hunt is out this week with a concussion he suffered against Ferrum.  I have seen Maryville play twice this year and in one of them he threw 3 Tds and ran for another throwing for over 300 yards.  I know he has had other statistically average games but he has had no trouble finding the endzone this year... 7 TDs throwing and 4 Tds rushing.  And Maryville is a whole different team when he is on the field.  If he could stay healthy he would be my vote for QB uncontested.  Also just a freshman.

Mayo is the other QB you gotta consider.  Sounds like he had a great game against MC last week.
Also Jordan from NCWC Has already thrown for over 1000 yards... however he has 9 INT to go with 6 TD.  The Qb position will be a close race.

RB  This conference has so many good Rbs, Ogun, Hightower, Roberts... I cant pick one

WR.. Persnally I think the kid from Averett is a stud I cant remember his name at the time.  Also good is T Lowe and Idlette the freshman from maryville, Webb from CNU and Methodist has two good ones.  Any of these guys.

Go USA South

ProudFightingScot

Maryville over CNU by 3 - Pulling for the upset
SU over Greensboro by 7 - Greensboro remains a cellar dweller and still racking up L's in the USA South
NCWC over Averett by 17 - I think Averett will put up a fight in the 1st half and NCWC will pull away in the 2nd
Ferrum over Methodist by 21 - Just too much size and speed on Ferrum's side

I am the unbiased majority and I do believe that everyone did not get the whole idea of my post. It was not for each fan to tell the best players from their team. It is not possible for all the best players to be on one team. That is why I am unbiased!

AdmiralPapi

Well seeing as we are only half way through the year and most fans have probably only seen 2 other teams in the conference in action it is going to be hard for us to come up with the best players in the conference don't ya think???

Well all things considered, everyone in this room speaks as if they are the foremost authority on the conference anyway. Statistically speaking then.....lets rank them on production.

Ryan Tipps

If we're simply ranking them on production, the conference stats can be found here;)
