Allen C,

I can promise you one thing, CNU isn't the same team from the last time Ferrum came to visit either.  It was 2 years ago and over half the starters for CNU this year, were still in high school.  I was starting at safety and my brother(who now plays QB for CNU) was the other safety.  Roland Hillard was eating up the USA
South as was George Jones and Rob Rodriguez. And as for Tunde, he was at the University of Cincinnati.  So yeah a lot has changed since then, so it's hard to compare the differences in teams from 2 years ago.

Comparing Mayo to Pitts is high praise.  Pitts was one of the most dynamic players I faced at the college level and if Mayo can live up to the hype, Ferrum has a very dangerous threat for the next 2 years.

As for the prediction by Wesleydad about CNU and Wesley meeting in the playoffs, I can promise you that Coach Kelchner has the boys thinking about Averett and only Averett this week.  You are absolutely right that the playoffs aren't guaranteed.  People can say what they want, but CNU will not be talking about the playoffs, until after the final horn on Nov 15.  Whether they are wishing the Panthers the best in the playoffs, or preparing for a first round matchup is yet to be determined.

Allen C

Hey nine-

Thanks for the objective posting. I know CNU was the preseason favorite, and I must say that after the first half of the Ferrum E&H game, I could not understand why Ferrum was picked second. They have gotten alot better since then.

Mayo has a lot of talent. My brother was a high school coach and scouted Rockbridge County High for a potential State playoff meeting a few years back. All he could talk about was the quaterback named Mayo. He somehow later heard that Mayo was going to Ferrum, and called me and went on and on about how good he was in the AA State playoffs.
He is not there yet, but as he matures, and if he can avoid injury, he will be something to deal with.

Do you know if the former quarterback Fasion was from Franklin? I went to Ferrum with a Jeff Fasion from Franklin. He was a good athlete, and a good ol country boy. I wonder if that was his son.

Averett has a better team than one would think, but I doubt they will provide the competition needed to stop CNU.

Well good luck over the next too weeks. I would say best of luck, but I think Ferrum will need the best of any luck available.

Yes, Todd is in fact from Franklin (Southhampton) and I do believe that his dad did go to Ferrum.  And they are country boys.

CNU85, there is always a Bubba Burger on our grill for you and yours. Look for us in Alumni parking!

Thanks a ton. I know my son is looking forward to it. I only wish I coulda gotten him onto the gridiron as a kid. He's got ok size...about 5'11" 185 (although I think working at the car wash this summer in the heat, he dropped to 170).  But he is SLOW!!  I just just couldn't shake him from the baseball diamond - which is not a bad thing. But I played football until 9th grade  (baseball until 10th). I always played inside LB....nothing like slapping on a helmet and sticking somebody! Some of my favorite memories of my youth involved some good hits - even the one's when I couldn't breath after clocking someone (or maybe they clocked me and that's why I couldn't catch my breath!!  :D).

Well here are my pick for the weekend

NCWC 21

Ferrum 22

Maryville  33

Greensboro  14

Methodist  16

I would have to agree with Allen C on the pics with the exception of the Greensboro v. methodist game. I think these two teams are going to put up some big points in this NC rivalry. Greensboro wins with a last minute field goal. Good luck to your boys Allen C, I'm looking forward to seeing them in person on the 15th.

My picks - and where do we stand for the year?????

FC over NCW - I think NCW will win, but I don't want FC to come to CNU with a loss and ticked off.

CNU over AU - Tunde Ogun gets 300 yds

M'ville over SU

Greensboro and Methodist end in a 0-0 tie but they each have 400 yds of offense!!! Ok - I'm cracking myself up again!  :D :D ....Let's go with Methodist since Narch knows how to spell and knows when to use "then" or "than". Plus he schooled my boy Crazylegs the past few weeks!

Ok, I will give all of you something to laugh about. However I have this funny feeling that crazy things are going to happen this weekend.

1. NCWC  vs.  Ferrum                NCWC will upset Ferrum. NCWC has
the defense that can stop Ferrum's
                                                      ground game.

2. Greensboro  vs.  Methodist    Methodist will finally get untracked.

3. SU  vs. Maryville                      SU  They are overdue. They
played both Ferrum and CNU close
I think they are better than their
                                                        records indicate.
4. Averett vs. CNU                      Averett Two things here, CNU
might get caught looking ahead and
Averett is due for a big win and plus
how can i go against my son's team.

Good luck to everyone this weekend.

This one week after NCWC's defense allowed 283 yards rushing to a one-headed horse(Tunde), just imagine what they will allow to the 3-headed horse Ferrum has with Vann-Mayo-Lucas.

I am just trying to get everyone jump started here. Hell, Crazy and Narch have been going strong for a week now and I thought I would add a little humor to scene.

Question for you - do the CNU guys think that the general admission tickets will be sold out before the ticket booth opens at 11:00 AM Saturday morning? I am debating on whether or not to drive over there tomorrow or just wait. We have about 17 to 20 folks coming and certainly don't want them to get there and be unable to get in.

There will always be tickets. Even when the first game this year was "sold out", they were selling standing room only tix. This is homecoming weekend but I think the crowd will be a little less than the 5,000 plus earlier this year. I will check with some folks to make sure I'm correct and get back to you.

Can I ask a question? I am wondering, in the D3 top 25, why Ferrum has not gotten one vote. OK Ferrum's loss was to E&H, but they have been pretty strong since then. Statistically, they are showing well in the conference and nationally in some categories.

I think Ferrum needs to stop scheduling teams like Southern Virginia, and schedule a team like Salisbury. If you want to be ranked with the big dogs, you need to beat a few. Or at least play them to get better. So the best I can come up with is strength of schedule. Are there other factors? Should Ferrum get a little more respect? They did beat Bridgewater, and I thought they usually have a good program.

My own analysis is that they don't compete with strong enough out of conference opponents.
Maybe if they end 9-1, they will be looked at more closely.

I mean no disrespect Pat, but I would like to hear yours, and other opinions.

Thanks!

USA South is not one of the stronger conferences.

They are 3-9 in the playoffs since the Pools began in 1999.  That comes out as #21 among the conferences (including all independents as one conference.)  The NCWC win over W&J last season was a good start towards the reputation of the conference.

I think that it will take a playoff win by Ferrum to crack the top 25 this year.   :)

CNU85

CNU has recieved some votes. Look at Ryan Tipps ATR column for the mid-atlantic. His foggy glasses have Ferrum as a top 5 in this "mini" region,  but not CNU. I think a lot has to do with personal perspective in the top 25. There ae way too many teams in D3 that even the pollsters are voting on teams in which they have very little first hand knowledge. With D1 schools, there is so much media coverage, you have a better idea about the teams.

I'm waiting for Tipps to wipe off his glasses and either ut CNU in the top 5 or drop Ferrum out of it. I think it has something to do with the whiskey bottle in the picture. I noticed it isn't as full as it was at the beginning of the year.

CNU85

Kickerdad,

A CNU guy told me you wil be ok getting tix at the gate before game time. Let's meet somewhere just before the game.
