DeRon Brown of MIT needs 178 yds tonight to keep his lead over Tunde Ogun! Otherwise, Ogun becomes the D3 rushing leader with one game to go!

narch

will the usasac return to it's pre 2007 form next weekend, and crown a co-champion, or do the captains have their first outright championship in sight?  should be a fun week/weekend

kickerdad

Kickerdad....it was nice to see you before the game. Give your son a little grief for lining up on the wrong side of the field for a kickoff in the 4th qt. I'm still trying to figure out how 11 guys do that.  ;D

CNU85,

It was an honor to finally meet you and your son. You have a fine looking lad and I know you are proud.

We enjoyed our time at CNU today, I think the fans got their monies worth.

Sorry, but that wasn't my son on the kickoff. Mine only kicks extra points and field goals. He will occassionaly do kick off's if number 10 is hurt. Bottom line, ever since he had the hair line fracture in his hip, he hasn't been able to kick it as far. I think he is scared he will do some damage.

Congrats on CNU's win and good luck next week against Ferrum. Looks like they got their clocks cleaned today so not sure which team will show up.

CNU better step up next week!! Our running game is carrying us. Tunde is a beast. We need to find a passing game and tighten up our secondary before next weekend. I believe that Ferrum will come in to Pomoco with a big chip on their shoulder. Still can't believe that Wesleyan took it to Ferrum like they did. I have been trying to find a game summary or article to see what Wesleyan's stats looked like. Please post a link if anyone knows where to find that data. Turned out to be a nice day in Newport News after huddling under a tent for 2 hours trying to stay dry. The sun came out right at kickoff.

We have a large group of CNU and Ferrum alumni tailgating next weekend. Let me know if anyone is interested in combining efforts for one big tailgating bash. Go Captains!!!

I would be curious to know what kind of passing game Ferrum has. Thanks!!

TC,
Here's the FC v. NCWC stats
Ferrum went a whopping 1 of 12 passing with about 300 rushing yards. NC Wesleyan ran up and astonishing 600 yards of offense split evenly about 300 on the ground and 300 by air. Click the link above if you want to see the complete stats.

Think about how scary this is, NCWC was 1 point away from being repeat champs. If CNU doesn't make the last second FG NCWC is sitting at 6-1(conf.) with a head to head tie breaker. If they win saturday, it has to make NC Wesleyan sick knowing they were one point from the playoffs.

Well I just got back from a long damn depressing ride, and really cannot tell you what happened. I had not seem the stats, until just now, and i think they tell the story. It could have been worse, as NCW had the ball inside the 5 twice in the 1st half and did not score.
They completly dominated Ferrum. I have to say that the score did not reflect how bad it went for Ferrum.

I hope they can put it behind them and realize they MUST refocus and take advantage of the chance to represent the USA South.

BEWARE THE BLACK HATS!

HA! The good news about the Ferrum loss....now Tipps will have to take them out of his top 5 in the Mid-Atlantic.

I've held my tongue about this until now....even prior to Ferrum losing yesterday, they had lost at home to E&H, while CNU had lost on the road at Salisbury.  Comparing their lone losses should have been enough to give CNU the edge.  Also, Wilkes was a much better out of conference opponent than Southern VA or Bridgewater.  Even though we barely beat them and their record is not good, they've played a lot of good teams tough.

Isn't Tipps' wife a graduate of Ferrum?  Could Ferrum have been his sentimental favorite?;)  I'm obviously biased, Ryan, but I think CNU is better than Ferrum....we'll see if I'm right this Saturday.

GO CAPS!

Didn't I already cover this in my reply to CNU85? And it's posted very clearly in bio that my wife is a Ferrum grad -- so that shouldn't even need to be asked.

Back in early October when I first picked Ferrum in my top five, I addressed the very specific issue of stepping away from it and looking at it objectively -- and I believe I was doing that in that instance. Heck, I've seen twice as many CNU games in my lifetime as I have Ferrum ones. Maybe Panthers fans should be the ones crying foul  ;)

Here's the (suprisingly even) score comparison I used when CNU85 also brought this topic up just last week. Of course, this was prior to the NCWC game:

But, just for funzies, CNU and FC have lined up pretty evenly when you compare them via common opponents.
Against Shenandoah: CNU won by 10, FC by 2
Against Methodist: CNU won by 14, FC by 18
Against Maryville: CNU won by 7, FC by 14
Against Greensboro: CNU won by 33, FC by 25

Don't sweat it too much though. After an FC loss and an unimpressive CNU win, I don't expect either team will be in my top five this coming week.  :)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

WOW Crazy Legs!!! I can't believe those stats. NC Wesleyan really blew up.  I hope CNU comes ready to play on Saturday. For anyone interested our group will start tailgating at 10am in Alumni Alley. Anyone who wants to come hang out send me an email at tcoffey@crpartners.net.  :)  See you Saturday!!!

Common opponents aside, prior to yesterday of course ;), my other two points give CNU the advantage....at least in my mind.  I guess I'm crazy?:P

Don't worry, I won't sweat it....you have your opinion and I have mine....let's see how it plays out Saturday.

Honestly, this is absolutely the right attitude to take about this! :)

The best thing I've found with my "High Five" ranking is not whether I'm right or wrong (I'm often wrong ;)), but it's the fresh and interesting conversations and critiques that have ensued on the message boards or via email.

Hey Tipps,

Are you headed to Newport News this week?

Alas, no. It's my annual pilgrimage to Indiana for my alma mater's rivalry game. Can you send me txt updates again this year?
