Keith, Ryan and Pat have CNU losing and perhaps history suggests this. I would love to surprise the big 3. When CNU beat Bridgewater in 2003, no one believe in us. When CNU beat Mary-Hardin Baylor in 2006 no one believed in us. When CNU won the conference in our 1st year of existence no one believed in us. It's CNU against the world. It's the USA South against the world. No one gives us a shot. Might as well forfeit the game.

W&J got off the hook last time. Time to surprise the world. Show them that CNU is the real deal. My prediction:

CNU 24 -- W&J 21

Let's Go CNU keep it rolling!
'02, '03, '04, '06...    4 years, 4 championships...

Hmm, seven-point game, seven-point game, three-point game.

Yes, clearly, nobody gives you a shot. Puhleeze.

The real question tomorrow is if CNU's run game can keep the W&J offense "in the cold".  I think the REAL key to their offense is Curt Jones, RB.  Good size and runs well.  The key to stopping W&J is stopping the run.   I've seen it this year... stop the run and you win with enough offense.  They still scored 4 TDs though.. You're going to need more than 24pts.

If CNU can't keep the chains moving, you'll be down 3 TD's before halftime.  If you do keep the chains moving and negate Curt Jones... this will be a great game and the Captains will wear down the President Defense.

Kickerdad,

You're right... if CNU plays like that for 60 minutes... they have a great chance to win.

Wow,

Im a little surprised by the coaching choice.

Timeline
98-01 Marion Kirby -Started the program and attracted Good Athletes until he left the coaching ranks partly due to GC committing the bare bones minimum to get a program started.  Reality was the school wanted to attract more students and an easy way to boost revenue was to bring in football.  The school never committed to establishing a foundation.
02-08 Neil Mitchell  Inherited a program that in the previous year had serious retention issues.  Brought in a championship philosophy but limited by bare bones budget.  Program struggles due to lack of   backing by school.
08-Present  Dr Hunt takes over.  I believe he was a defensive guy.  He inherits a program that has made some strides but really could be on the verge of collapse unless he has the leadership to make the kids believe in him.  How many years does Dr Hunt get before the AD gets some blame for the programs problems?

This is classic Greensboro College.  The AD fires the Head Coach and says he is committed to winning and that FB is very important and then he hires a man who hasn't coached in a very long time.

Im going to pull for the new coach to do well but if he doesn't I think Strable should be fired for a lack of keeping the position open to see all possibilities that could have come in.  Maybe Strable could have gotten someone who's name was attached to the new england patriots (that is all it seems it takes to be hired at gc, knowing someone who has succeded)

Mosh,

I detect a lot of frustration in your post. I feel bad for you, specifically. You pour your heart out on these boards, a die-hard faithful. I can't even begin to imagine what it is like to have been part of a program like GC and to be so hopeful year after year that things just have to get better. Hopefully, for you, GC will someday change the emphasis they place on football and you can shout with Pride.....Roll Pride.

I think sometimes the CNU fans take the commitment for granted. The University (students, faculty, Athletic Dept), the Administration, the Community have been behind the program 100% since the day the University announced they would field a team. I know I don't take it for granted. There are a ton of variables required to make a program successful, and CNU has achieved them.

I hope that was a typo!

If CNU can keep it close, don't be surprised if Graham boots the game winner.

I saw that as well.  I played for Marion Kirby for two years.  I played for Neil Mitchell for two years and both coaches are well organized and always had us well prepared.  I hope that comment wasn't directed to them.

I just don't see how anybody that has been out of coaching for so long can claim that his kids are going to be well prepared.  The real question is Dr Hunt prepared for the grind, recruitment, retention, does he have a playbook ready.  He hasn't implemented a system in how many years (did he ever coach offense)?   This is a really absurd answer to the problem.  And 85, your right man Im frustrated and regretting that I didn't go to play in Deleware for the wolverines.

Another thing I see that the public may not, is that Dr Hunt is in Pres Williams circle.  How do you get a job a week after the firing with no offer to the public?  Really what kind of commitment to change is that?
I just dont see how you can hire someone out of football for so long...I just dont see it.  Maybe being a pal of the President will get us some more funding...Who knows but I do know that this was not done the right way and that the problems mitchell faced had to do with funding and not coaching ability.  Asst Coaches get payed about 1/5 of what guilford pays, the school has 2 full time coaches? and a few others that put everything into the program with little compensation in return.  And now the answer is in house to a person that coached one time as a head coach (and what year was that?).

By the way Dr Hunt was on the panel that hired mitchell

Eventually Im going to calm down and I wont say negative things on here about the program I really love.  But this is just not acceptable.

Im not really sure what to say about the Capts/Pres' game tomorrow. Swallow is NASTY and the receivers from what I hear run perfect routes. I had a round table discussion with some fellow CNU faithfuls Thursday and they all think W&J will win. One thing they said CNU needs to do in order to have a chance is control time of possession. If they can keep W&J off the ball and have success running the ball, then maybe they have a chance. My heart wants the Captains to win and I believe they can. They just need to execute to perfection. I heard they got a bunch of snow up in Washington, PA today. Im actually hoping for a cross-wind of 30 mph! Maybe that will hinder the Presidents passing game!

SaintsFAN

RTT,

Thats a good thought, for CNU (cross wind), but W&J is running more of a controlled passing attack... lots of short passes with a few shots deep.

I've had discussion with a couple people about the viability of the President's offense in the November playoff weather.  I don't think you'll see many teams be successful with a spread passing attack and no running game this late in the year.

I really feel that CNU has a shot tomorrow..  if they dictate tempo and pace on offense, keeping the defense well rested.

Mosh,

I'm very sorry as well with this decision by GC.  Right now with the amount of schools playing Division II/III/I-AA non-scholarship in North Carolina, I don't think hiring a head coach who hasn't been a college coach for over 17 years is going to help in attaining recruits at GC.  It hard to say you are committed to your football program by hiring your  science teacher.

Like I've said before, GC has many good athletes, played good defense, but seemed it was more important getting Torrey Lowe alot catches (stats) for 4-8 yard gains than developing a balance & effective offense.

I don't see how this hiring will enhance the USA-South Conference.

But look at it this way, at least GC saves money by not having to pay for a new head coach.

good luck to the capts today...bring a "W" home for the usasac, boys

The question was asked how this CNU team ranks against teams of the past. I give this team credit for winning but swish 3 spoke briefly about the MVP of CNU's team Jay Graham. Without him we wouldn't even be talking about ranking this team against CNU teams of the past.

The only encouragement I have for this years team is you have not done anything that was not expected of you when you signed up to come to CNU. Your legacy will be defined like all other teams and that's by what you do in the playoffs. I am not going to predict a score but I will take a W anyway you can bring it back to VA. Football is the most interesting and most watched sport out of the big 3 because of one thing and one thing only. Whether you are playing in a playoff system or a BCS title game all it takes is one bad game and you're going home a loser. There is no best out of 3, 5, or 7 only the best team on that day will move on or be named champs.

CNU85

Less than an hour before game time. Nobody is really reading the boards right now. Good luck to CNU! Let's get the W&J monkey off our back like we did Rowan last year. I'l be listening to the webcast or on the radio in my car...wherever I am today. I wish I could be in Washington PA, but couldn't make it. But I just might make some road trip plans for next weekend if everything works out ok.

I hope the CNU run offense is like nothing W&J has seen. They have only given up 72 yds per game. But I doubt they have faced a line, blocking backs and a runner like Ogun before. Only a few more minutes to tell.

CNUs defensive backfield better be ready to play. Swallow and the WRs are going to light you up! Hit hard, pic a few, and the front 7 better have Swallow on his back all game.

I gurantee that if we see yardage totals like the last game, CNU will win easily. But I have a feeling this is going to be a hard fought, close game. It wil come down to the CNU running game and how the CNU defense handles the passing game of W&J.

Go CAPTAINS!!!

CNU85

To all the CNU players. Thanks for another great year. The W&J game was frustrating. But I bet I was only 1/10th as frustrated as you were. To the CNU Defense...good job adjusting. Take that into next year...the team that rolled over you for 301 yds in the first half, you stopped dead for 95 yds in the second half. To all the Freshman and Sophmores who started for the first time this year.....you're not rookies anymore. You are now experienced players....be ready for next year.

To the seniors...THANKS for a great 4 years. I know I can't name you all, but thanks to Jay Graham, Nate Williams, Deshaun Parker, Gooch, Wagner.....and the seniors on the O-line........I know I'm missing some names trying to get them from the top of my head.....but thanks to you all. Good luck as you now move on beyond sports.

To the coaches and staff.....wow.....you took a very young team, adjusted to early injuries and ran off 8 in a row. I'm looking towards next year. But first, I have to head over to the hoops board and cheer on Blasingame, Barton and the rest.
