Good luck to Augie in the tournament.
Show the rest of the country that this conference deserves more than ONE bid!!!!

Elmhurst out... UNBELIEVABLE.  I'd like to argue this is the top team every to be left out!  What is the highest ranked D3Hoops.com top 25 team to NOT make a tourney?
It may be UW-Oshkosh, #7 right now in the current Top 25 poll.

Prior to tonight, it was Capital #14 in the final regular season poll 2001-02.  They were 23-5 with 3 close losses to Otterbein.  Ott. won the national title, and Cap. ended up #8 in the final poll, despite not playing in the NCAAs.

Wow!  You're probably right.  No Pool C teams from the CCIW or the WIAC.  So much for being the top 2 conferences in the nation.

Good luck to augie!  Go win this whole thing!  :)
Go Elmhurst!

Are you sure? When Wheaton's team with Kolmodin tragically missed the tourney... what were they ranked? I thought it was higher than that.

Ryan, I've been on the Elmhurst bandwagon all season. I'm sure they could have made some noise. I'm just sorry they don't get a chance.

Come on Augustana, win it all and make the NCAA look ridiculous for picking only one of us. For some reason they've already forgot that it was our #2 Pool C that made it to Salem last year.  >:(

It's about time for the CCIW to cut down the nets in Salem. Let's make it this year! ;)

79j,

There is a projected field by d3hoops.com on the front page.  I wouldn't presume to try to outguess them (though I'm not so sure about BOTH Oshkosh and LaCrosse getting in - perhaps Guilford in one of those spots).

Well, I get half-credit for picking against d3hoops.com - I didn't expect NEITHER 'skosh or LaX to make it, but I got Guilford.

One-and-a-half cheers for me! :P

Having NO pool Cs from either the CCIW or WIAC just reinforces my criticism of the current selection criteria above.  Having an in-region-only QOWI (with no consideration of opponents' opponents records) is just plain dumb.  Fortunately it is apparently dead after this season, though too late for Elmhurst.

Well, it's the answer Pat gave to the identical question earlier this week.  If you tell me what year it was, I'll be happy to look it up for you.  :)

I stand corrected.  However, I still think that Capital's final ranking of #8 is the highest for a non-participant.

No, it does not.

I know the criteria for Pool C bids has been posted on here many times, and I'm not trying to rehash the argument as to whether or not that format makes sense.  It is what it is.  But, how completely absurd is it the neither the CCIW or the WIAC (widely accepted as the two best conferences in D3) get an at large bid.  Again, I know D3 is not about the money, but could anyone imagine the Big Dance with only one ACC and one Big Ten team in it?  I guess we truly did decide to go to a D3 school first and foremost for academics.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

I thought so, thanks Scott. At the time everyone around the nation was upset Wheaton didn't get in, precisely because they were the highest ranked team ever not to make it. I still think that team could have made it to Salem, and I still don't know how we blew that lead at the Shirk.  :-\ Man did that Selection Sunday suck. :'(

Another question for you D3 gurus!  Is this the 1st time that just 1 WIAC and 1 CCIW team got into the national tourney?
Go Elmhurst!

The answer to that question is, very unfortunately, not at all. :(

But you have to remember, it wasn't until last year that the tournament was expanded. And last year both conferences got three teams! And then of course we almost all had to play each other.  ::)
