This board is like Bruce Ismay getting off the Titanic - everybody's skedaddled.

Where is everyone?  :D

From the Herald & Review on Tim Littrell...

http://www.herald-review.com/articles/2007/03/02/sports/millikin/1021479.txt

Here's a quote from the on-line article:

"It's true, CCIW schools like Illinois Wesleyan, Carthage, Wheaton and North Park have all fairly recently moved into new arenas. North Central has broken ground on theirs."

Does the sportswriter think North Park is now playing its games in the Helwig?

That's inexcusably poor journalism. Millikin, and by extension the CCIW, is a regular beat of the Herald-Review's sports department. If you're going to make a case for the remodeling of the hometown team's gym, and you don't know whether or not the other schools in the conference have updated facilities -- but you make (erroneous) assumptions in that vein, anyway -- then you've completely lost your credibility.
North Central has broken ground on their fine arts center not their new athletic complex.  One more mistake for the poor journalist out of Decatur.
When is the groundbreaking for the new Decatur School of Investigative Journalism?

Under the category of For What It's Worth, I saw a few D3 coaches at the Prospect Sectional last night between Buffalo Grove and Dundee-Crown. The CCIW was represented by Mark Scherrer (sp?), but also the head coaches from Aurora and Lake Forest, as well as some huge guy wearing a Lawrence University warmup.  From what I could see last night, the only seniors likely to be of D3 interest were 6'2"ish Ryan O'Gara from Buffalo Grove, a nice shooter with good range, and the 6'8" center from Dundee-Crown, who showed good feet for a big guy but didn't get a lot of touches due to Buffalo Grove's tough on the ball defense.  Has anybody heard anything out of those schools in terms of matching this up with any recruitment news on campus?

Ahh, the good ol' Alma Mater Prospect HS Gymnasium where all too often it was other schools competing on our floor in the sectionals when we(Prospect) were sitting on the sidelines watching.  :-[

At least we had a Prospect kid advance in the three point shooting competition  -  with a CCIW connection!  Jeff Heiden, a junior at Prospect and son of Glen Heiden, former Augie sharpshooter from the late 70's (?) or early 80's (?) advanced with 9 treys.  I'm sure Dansand or other Augie posters can give us a little historical refresher on Glen....who still shoots lights out at the local Y.

Not sure who all is on the short list of "best shooters" in the history of the CCIW, but Keelan Amelianovich, Korey Coon, and Ryan Knuppel sure are.

If we're not limiting it to the three-point era, I'll throw out a guy who probably none of you remember, except maybe Dennis. Glen Heiden (1976-79) from Augie shot 55% for his career (never below 54% in a season) and I don't think I remember him taking more than a handful of shots inside 15 feet in three years. He was about 6-5 and faded away on his jumper, so he was very difficult for smaller guards to defend. Comparing him to other Augie guys that most of you know (on shooting alone), I'd rank him ahead of Rick Harrigan or Kirk Anderson.

Quote from: 79jaybird on March 07, 2007, 05:42:14 PMSchools like Aurora, Chicago get the same "points" whether they play Elmhurst or Concordia IL,

No, they don't. The results are the same in terms of being regional wins or losses, but their effect upon a team's QOWI (or whatever they're going to call it next season) can be significantly different. A win over Elmhurst is worth a lot more on a team's resume than a win over Concordia (IL) in terms of the Pool C criteria, believe me.

Really makes me wonder if we WILL see more CCIW/WIAC matchups over the coming years with the new administrative regions...  as quality wins truly do become more important than simple wins.

Rob, it would have been great to meet you the other night.  Do you have a connection to one of the schools involved or live in the area, and will you be there again tonight?  If you are, let's run into each other.  You'll probably run into John Camardella as well.  He's coaching/teaching at Prospect these days.  I plan on making the game tonight  -  Stevenson and Buffalo Grove are two very similar, well-matched teams.......although I suppose the Conant-Lake Park game has more marquee value.  Any other posters in the area going to be around?  Dennis, you're in the area, aren't you?  It's an easy commute!

Heiden was certainly on one of the best CCIW teams of all time never to win the conference title.  He was another of those great shooters - whose career came a decade too early - and never ventured within 15 feet of either basket.  And every time I've gone to Lattof Y on NW Highway I see him shooting baskets - and another person who remembers me.

More than any other game North Park's 79-76 overtime win in early January against a Heiden/Jacks led Augie team in Rock Island (NPC's first win ever at Carver) - catapaulted the Chicago Vikings into the national limelight and started them on their way to their first national championship in 1978.

Pete,
I live about 5 minutes from the school but the real reason I was there is one of my friends is a coach for BG, so I was there supporting him. Unfortunately, I am leaving town for work so I won't be able to catch any more of the games.

Working at the Covie school - you live 5 minutes from Prospect - and your reasons for NOT attending Northwest Covenant Church (which is one minute from Prospect) are ?  >:(

All this talk about Prospect and my "stopping roots" makes me excited!
I was at Prospect from 1994-1998  and played football/baseball there.  I know the Heiden family (not very well though).
I workout/play racquetball at the Lattof YMCA in Des Plaines, and many of the basketball players in our gym are CCIW Alums.
I reside on the South end of Mt. Prospect closer to Lions Park.

I am pulling for Carroll tonight!  I love to see success stories and hope than can squeak out a few more wins to get to Virginia!

Having lived in Mount Prospect for 16 years, served on the Village Board, and know several members of the Busse family, I know your area well.

Still doesn't give Berki a free pass on NWCC.
