Okay. I bet Wash U's sophomore Wallis takes Wooster's jr Cooper with his eyes closed. :)

Wheaton's Raymond beats St. Thomas's Schnettler in the 3pt contest, and then Mazarei schools them both making 100 straight 35fters.

:D :D :D

I saw an oddly high number of AA candidates this year. While I am disappointed about a couple of guards that were left off (esp in light of the fact that the playoffs were taken into account and Wallis had a sick playoff stat line). I AM happy that all the guards I saw got on a team (though I'd probably do a little rearranging if I was dictator of the world)... so I guess that means all the players I didn't see should get kicked to the curb to make room. LOL. Just kidding!!!

Kent will be an All-American eventually, in my mind the fact that almost everyone is floored by him and comments about it is good enough for me.

Someone still needs to answer my question about whether the CCIW MOP has ever not gotten an AA award.... sounds like a job for Greg... :)

well, Raymond already beat Cramer head to head so we don't need to play that one.  ;)

Going back here's what I found:

D3Hoops goes back to the 97/98 season for AA so we'll start there

MOP/D3 AA team:

98 Brent Niebrugge IWU-D3 3rd team
99 Rob Haman Whe-nothing/Corey Koon IWU-D3 2nd team
00 Jason Wiertal Car-D3 3rd/Corey Koon IWU-D3 1st
01 Ryan Knuppel Elm-D3 1st team
02 A. McDaniel Car-D3 2nd team (wiertal was 1st team d3 but not MOP)
03 Kolmodin Whe-D3 1st team
04 Amelianovich IWU-D3 2nd team (based on updated info. thanks pat)
05 Dauksas IWU-D3 1st team
06 Harrigan Aug-D3 2nd team
07 Raymond Whe-nothing

interestingly a couple of times someone was 1st team D3 and not the MOP. (carstens, dauksas, Kolmodin, wiertal, and this year freeman to name a few)

Mr. Ypsi

For those wondering, Keelan was 2nd team.  Not too surprising he didn't make the preseason list, since he was JV the previous year!

Some more interesting data I found:

D3Hoops began naming All Region teams with the 2002/2002 season. Since that time here are the number of Midwest Region 1st team All Region players to make a D3 All American team:

2001/2002: 4/5 (3 CCIW, Chris Jeffries, Wash U left off)
2002/2003: 5/5 (2 CCIW)
2003/2004: 5/5 (3 CCIW)
2004/2005: 3/5 (3 CCIW, 2 aurora left off)
2005/2006: 5/5 (3 CCIW)
2006/2007: 4/5 (1 CCIW, Raymond left off)

06/07 is the first year any CCIW 1st team All Region player has not made any D3 AA team (Regional MOP presumably started when first listed w 2005/06 season). In addition all of the other 4 1st team All Region players were on a D3 AA team.

Awful lot of whining going on seeing as your conference didn't get the job done this year.

Just an observation.

It's awfully hard for me to believe that there are ten guards in the d3 basketball that are better and/or had better seasons than Kent Raymond of Wheaton.  Furthermore, what's more unbelievable is Drury (the guard from Carroll out of the midwest region) was a 3rd teamer and Raymond who was voted "POY" in the same region didn't make any of the five list.  Can someone make any sense of the selection process?

thanks usee... definitely interedting. I actually meant the other way around... ie... the person got a CCIW MOP nod, and didn't get any AA recognition.

Bragging rights have never paid any of my bills either.

Whether it's fair or not, I don't know, but team perfomance does get you noticed beyond your ability at times. Everybody needs to remember that it is D3 and there is no way to compare every player. As good as Drury is I'm sure there are better. 3rd team is probably a little high for him but it's not a crime that he is there.

Similarly I think Larry Welton for Aurora should be a pre-season POY Candidate next year but if his team tanks it he may be HM at best. Can't make everyone an All-American or there's no distinction in being named one.

Roop, my post was not a knock against Drury.  The selection process doesn't make any sense to me.  There are only 8 regions in the country.  If a kid is voted POY in their region one would think he/she would qualify for 1 of the 25 spots on the national level.  Especially, when another kid playing the same position in the region qualifies for 1 of the top 15 spots.  By the way, team performance didn't keep Zach Freeman from being 1st team AA.

No problem CP. To be honest I was just making a general statement as I never saw your post about Drury. And I still haven't gone back to find it. The NCAA will probably have a different list when they post theirs so everybody deserving should get recognition.

I've seen Zach Freeman play and I have no problem with him being a 1st teamer despite his teams lack of success.
