Mr. Ypsi

Sorry for an NBA note, but anything beats responding to the troll!

For the "It ain't over 'til it's over" file:  The Nuggets led the Pistons by 3 with 1.5 seconds left, and had only to inbound the ball.  The pass went off Iverson and Prince and Rasheed Wallace heaved a 60 footer - OT!  (The Pistons went on to win.)

Barton College vs. Winona State ?!?!?!?!?

Did anyone see that?  What a magnificent ending!  Plus, it gets me to thinking how Barton College - a college with an enrollment with less than 1000 kids - winning a D2 national title!  Wow.

I enjoyed watching that game more than I have any of the D1 games over the past couple of weeks. The last 40 seconds of that game were absolutely incredible. Not only did Anthony Atkinson beat the buzzer with that layup, he scored 10 points in the last 39 seconds and pretty much singlehandedly reversed a seven-point deficit!

And not only did Atkinson score the last 10 points for Barton, but no other BC player even touched the ball in the last 40 seconds, except for the player who made the steal and the pass to Atkinson for the game winner.

Freeman compared with Schlemm????
no comparison here.  Freeman has a great attitude, better stats, and IMO overall a better player.
From what I saw,  when Schlemm would have his head on straight,  he was a solid ball player.  Unfortunately all too often I saw Schlemm just "lose it" and "pout" on the court.

That Barton vs. Winona St. game was great even though I was pulling for Winona.  Atkinson never gave up and believed/achieved in the end.  Great game.

Come on, who really made that play... the guy who stole the ball, or the guy that made a layup? :P

But perhaps I'm biased.... my fav sports memory was when we won the little league champ thanks to a last second steal by yours truly that was passed to our pg who made the open layup in OT to win it. If you think it's odd that my fav sports memory comes from little league, you don't know how bad the women's basketball teams were at my high school.  :-[ :D

Both. The player who made the steal certainly did his bit ... but Atkinson covered fifty feet of floor in an immense hurry and made the layup a fraction of a second before the buzzer went off. No one should downplay the contribution of either one.

I think it's more odd that you call youth basketball "little league," which in my experience has always been reserved for youth baseball.  I thought they even had that trademarked.

Thought you folks might enjoy this snapshot of posting up that I just did.  Just for fun I decided to see what posting-up boards are most popular.  So I compiled the list below by selecting all boards with over 100,000 views, as well as the top board in each region (if under 100,000).

Pretty interesting that there have actually been more posts on the MIAA board than any other, yet there are apparently a lot more lurkers on the CCIW board, with almost 400,000 views.

Not overly surprised, seeing as you guys do in-game updates on your own board. Add in the CCIW in-game updates board and see how the numbers change.

Titan Q - Thanks for that link. Two players on there are from NAIA D1 Champions Oklahoma City Univ. ( who only loss to Miss. St. by 7 pts. ) One, Duane John, was kicked off the Missouri Univ. team by former coach Quinn Synder. Transfered to New Mexico State and played well. Was out of basketball a year before the OCU coach heard he had one year of elgibilty left. That is quite a list to be on. Good Luck Zach.

LOL... good point. It's probably because of the 9ish baseball fields I run past every night in the community rec park near my house that are full of cute little kids in pint sized uniforms... And the smell of spring in the air... it's baseball season! :)

Perhaps thats due to the high level of interest in CCIW basketball which is due, at least in part, to the fact that the CCIW has been playing basketball at a high level for an extended period of time?  :)

I'm sure that that's the major reason why the CCIW rooms draw such high interest. To that I'd add that the league has at least some modest name recognition within its base in the third-largest population center in the U.S. I don't know how high the MIAA's name recognition is within its base in western and central Michigan, but the population over on the other side of the inland sea is much more sparse than it is here in Chicagoland.

And I also wouldn't be surprised if the relative popularity of the CCIW rooms has to do with our "share-the-wealth" policy as opposed to the MIAA. Every one of the eight schools in the CCIW has had at least one moment at the top of the heap and in the NCAA tourney over the past two decades, and within the last ten years five of the eight schools have won conference titles in men's basketball and six of them have appeared in the big dance. That's reflected in the diversity of our posters (every school except for Millikin has retained at least a couple of regulars over the years, and every school except for Millikin has managed to produce multiple posters every season). I'm sure that all eight of our schools, or at least the seven that aren't located in Decatur, are well-represented in terms of lurkers.

The MIAA, in stark contrast, has been a two-school show in men's basketball for eons, with a rare MIAA title and/or NCAA appearance here and there by Albion, and a couple of one-shot NCAA appearances by Kalamazoo and long-since-departed Defiance, only occasionally breaking up the monotony of the Hope/Calvin hegemony. That kind of thing can really reduce across-the-board interest in a league. I don't think I've ever seen an Olivet, Tri-State, or Alma poster in Let's Talk MIAA (not even the person who calls him/herself "Thealmascots" appears to be an Alma fan), and the Kalamazoo and Adrian posters don't appear to be thick on the ground, either. I wouldn't be surprised if 90-95% of the Let's Talk MIAA lurkers who have a MIAA fan allegiance are either Hope or Calvin supporters.

I'm not badmouthing the MIAA, mind you. A league is what it is. Hope and Calvin shouldn't be held accountable for the inability of everyone else in that league to compete with them on an annual basis over the past sixty years. I'm just saying that the historical imbalance there has probably helped depress interest on the part of the six non-shoe members of the MIAA. In fact, I think that the impressive post and view totals of Let's Talk MIAA are more of a testament to the devotion of Hope and Calvin fans to their respective teams than the #2 status of that board is an indictment of the league's across-the-board support as contrasted to the CCIW's.
