As I said in the NAC room, I am impressed with Dominican. I understand they were one Big Mac short, but North Central was missing a point guard and a center.

Also----yes, the dunks were fun to watch. BUT, as I've heard from many coaches---practice the shots in warmup that you're going to be taking in the game.    ;)

I have been out of town for a couple of weeks and not able to read or post, but I was up at the Deerfield league a couple of weeks ago, and was very impressed with Dominican as well.  They have a 6'6"ish player who, that night, looked like he'd be all-conference in the CCIW.  Dominican was a very entertaining team to watch  -  up-tempo ball, and very unselfish.  I'm hoping to get up there again Thursday to see the IWU incoming freshman as well as NPU, NCC, and Dominican again.  The night I was up there a couple of weeks ago, Elmhurst looked very sluggish and leader-less without their big man Ruch.   Looking forward to a second look at all these teams.  Who will be at Des Plaines Tuesday or Deerfield Thursday?

I see some postings about the Deerfield Summer League, how about the Des plains Summer League? I hear there is more talent at Deerfield  ??? but the Des plains is just as fun to watch, it seems there are a few teams that have retired college players playing. It's fun to watch some of the younger players having to show the older players what they have. Maybe not all the best talent but a lot of fun to watch and worth the drive, really nice facility there and fan friendly. ::)
I'd really like to agree with you,but then we both would be wrong........

Pete--

Dominican actually beat Elmhurst a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure if that was the night Ruch wasn't there. They should have also beat North Central as NC won on a last second shot. Elmhurst defeated NC with Ruch playing. You mentioned EC seemed "leader-less w/o their big man Ruch." Although I'm a big Ruch fan, from what I've observed so far at Deerfield, the emerging EC vocal leader has been Burks.

I'll be at Des Plaines tonight, but not sure about Thurs. There were no games last Tues 7/5 in Des Plaines. Accordingly, this week Des Plaines has games both tonight and Thurs night. Deerfield also will play a full schedule on Thurs as usual.

Thurs in Deerfield:
1, NPU has the night off
2. IWU vs Crazy 8s at 7:00
3. NCC vs Lake Forest at 8:10
4. EC vs Pistons at 9:20

Muskie is correct in his assessment. Last year the Des Plaines league featured the better overall talent. However, some of the college teams dropped out this year and the league features more "independent" teams made up of players from a collection of schools. Accordingly, I think Deerfield has a little better talent this year. There are fewer "bad" teams at Deerfield and fewer blow-outs than in Des Plaines. However, Des Plaines certainly does feature its share of good games in a very nice, fan friendly facility.

Dead on.   Burks was quite often times the vocal leader for the Bluejays last season, though it was almost always outside the huddle.  EC lacked the in huddle voice last season, if he or Bacon could fill that role, it will be a huge asset for the Jays.
Were Bacon, Jared Hintzsche or Strzemp playing?

Sakman 1111

Strzemp is coming off double knee surgery(not serious) and has been working out to the max . He should start playing this week or the next and for the first time in a long time his knees feel great. Look for him to have a great comeback season.....

EC----

I don't remember Bacon being there that night. Hintzsche & Ruch were. There was also another very tall guy--I believe the younger Hintzsche. As Sakman stated, Strzemp is rehabbing.

Some information on Wheaton's recruiting class from a recent conversation I had with a Wheaton fan...

Jake Carwell (6-7 F, Timothy Christian) is transfering from Benedictine - he will be a sophomore.  Two of Jake's three sisters played at Wheaton and the third played at University of Denver.  He's probably the only immediate impact guy Wheaton is adding based on the returnees.

Andrew Jahns (6-2 G, Wheaton North) - should be a very good CCIW player but based on the returning backcourt, most likely will be a JV player in 2007-08.

Josh Kvam (6-0 G, Cherekee (GA)) - A tremendous shooter who played at a very high level of high school basketball.  He was the only starter on his team not to go D1.

Zach Johnson (6-6 F, Aurora Christian) - Zach has only played three or four years of organized basketball since returning from living in South America with his family (they were missionaries there).  He is not a very refined player but he is quite athletic at 6-6.

Carwell averaged 10.7 ppg as a freshman for the Bennies last season, and he was their leading rebounder at 7.5 rpg. He's not much of a shooter, but he's very athletic and active around the basket. Wheaton needs help inside, so he should play a prominent role in the rotation for Bill Harris right away.

Incidentally, both Carwell and Josh Kvam have sisters who played on last season's Wheaton women's basketball team.

At the beginning of last year's bball season I saw Andrew Jahns play for Wheaton North in a "pre-conference" tournament that included Prospect High School (now coached by CCIW alum John Camardella).  I had Jahns pegged as a quality CCIW guard from his first game last year. During the tournament, I probably saw him play 2 or 3 times and my opinion didn't change.  He'll be a quality player for the Thunder, although you're right, he will have a tough time depth chart-wise.  He is a heady, smooth ball-handler, has a shot and seemed to be a hard-working defender.  He's a nice pickup for the Thunder.  I wonder if, in a year or two, he'll be bringing along either of his roughly 6'8" underclass teammates from Wheaton North. That team is going to be one of the better ones around this year.
