Titan Q, the link posting machine. You never give us the inside dope anymore, just a couple sentences and a link.

I don't have much dope here in the summer, Patrick...will have plenty from mid-October to March though.  :)

Would this be a good time to throw out the ol' "Dave's not here" line?

Congratulations to Illinois Wesleyan grad Denny Matthews on his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame this afternoon!

Pat Coleman

Writers and broadcasters are not inducted into the Hall of Fame. They receive their respective awards and are honored at the HOF ceremonies but are not HOF members.

As a reminder to myself, I walked through the Hall and looked at the plaques. None for any Frick or Spinks award winner. And no "broadcasters wing" either -- just a list of names in an exhibit.

Nice find, Martin. I was unable to link a wav file for the song, and I had completely forgotten that "Basketball Jones" had an animated video produced for it back when Cheech & Chong released the song in 1975. I haven't seen the video since the last time I saw the Peter Sellers movie "Being There" (a snippet of the video appears in the movie), and that was over twenty years ago.

I should be embarassed to admit this, but it was not a find - I knew it was there.  BTW, playing guitar for Tyrone Shoelaces is .... George Harrison.  The entire lineup is pretty spectacular:
Cheech Marin - Tyrone Shoelaces (voice)
Darlene Love - Cheerleader (voice)
Michelle Phillips - Cheerleader (voice)
Ronnie Spector - Cheerleader (voice)
George Harrison - lead guitar
Klaus Voorman - bass
Jim Karsten - drums
Jim Keltner - percussion
Carole King - electric piano
Nicky Hopkins - piano
Tom Scott - saxophone
Billy Preston - organ

I did not want to look for the remake that Barry White and Chris Rock did for "Space Jam" - kind of sacriligious.  Anything Barry White sings - even Jingle Bells - makes you think of sex.  Which reminds me of the all time basketball/music/sex moment - Marvin Gaye's rendition of the National Anthem before the 1983 NBA All Star game.  When he got done, no one wanted to play - they just wanted someone to make out with.  You can see it here:

Gensler is off to Boise State - the article does not say whether he is walking on or got a scholarship -

There is nothing on the Boise State website - actually no news on men's hoops since May 8.
