......then you should find this interesting, Greg and all other Parkposters.  I saw Chris Oates play for Streamwood High School several times (Harper Summer League, Wheeling Hardwood Classic at Christmas) and in high school, he reminded me somewhat of Phil Schneidermeier  -  help me out with that spelling..........

A tale of two halves.

It was a tale of two halves in the crackerbox tonight. .................

This is some sort of sign.............good, or bad?.......but its a sign.

It's the Christmas season, so everyone's got Charles Dickens on the brain, I guess.

At least I resisted the temptation to go with, "It was the best of halves, it was the worst of halves" as my opener. :D

"The night was moist...."
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Close. It's "Schniedermeier", with the 'i' before the 'e'. It's a bit counterintuitive, because schneider is the German word for "tailor" and is a very common surname among Germans and German-Americans -- a schneidermeier would be the chief tailor of a royal or noble household, or a tailor who had a hereditary lease on land that belonged to his feudal lord. For some reason the 'i' and the 'e' were inverted in Phil's surname, because I don't think that schnieder is an actual German word.

I'd agree Greg.  It seems this young team is learning from their mistakes, not repeating them and getting better much faster than I had hoped.  Wash U just had a little too much experience to overcome late in the game.  I'm looking forward to see what IWU does against Univ Chgo next Saturday.

Here is the IWU/Wash U box...

Freshman guard Sean Johnson had a big game for the Titans, 22 points (6-10 3-pt).  The Titans came within a couple plays of winning the game.

Time to slide on up to Bloomington...sounds bad out there.

Some quick thoughts looking over the IWU/WashU; IWU won most of the numbers battle except for the one that counts most - final score.

Both teams tied at 33 rebounds - IWU gave up 2" per position with Gant & Chamernik having some foul trouble in the first half;  and the other key numbers impressive also:
Points in the paint-IWU 30,WASHU 28. Points off turnovers-IWU 13,WASHU 9.
2nd chance points-IWU 8,WASHU 2. Fast break points-IWU 6,WASHU 0.
Bench points-IWU 14,WASHU 5

With a 5 point half time lead, Wash U with a little more experience, a lucky bounce and a lucky turnover helped the Bears win at the end.  Overall, a good effort by the Titans.

In fairness to Wash U, it sounds like the Bears are still finding their way after the catastrophic loss of Sean Wallis. In their last contest, the Lopata Classic championship game last Saturday, the Bears only beat Babson by two, 68-66, and Babson missed a layup at the buzzer that would've sent the game into overtime. Babson is only 3-6 on the season.

Greg, quit giving a reality shower on our parade! :(  We like to think of it as the 'baby Titans' came within a heartbeat, on the road, to the former #1 team in the country! ;D

Sounds like the D3 landscape is soon to be littered with "former #1 teams in the country", as Amherst lost to Brandeis today by ten points.

Yeah, I agree Greg.  Over the past several years, WashU has always seemed to me to be a team with a strong point guard oriented offense.  Unlike some others, I did not think WashU would stop being a Top 25 team with Wallis out.  Wash U coaching is too good, the talent too deep and the well disciplined defensively as a program to write them off this early.  Wash U is likely going to have to overcome more of these type games as the season progresses.

Of course, if anyone believes others on the UAA  board (Greg and I do not)Wash U always has their "homer officials" to rely upon.

The CCIW drops to 0-2 on the afternoon, as North Central takes it on the chin from Franklin, 73-57, in the Grizzlies' gym in Indiana. Mitch Raridon had 13 and Matt Rogers had 12 for the Redbirds.

I thought that NCC had a good shot at winning this game before Drennan went down. As it stands, the Cards hung in there ... but Franklin maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.

NCC is now 5-2 on the season.

The two remaining games for the CCIW today are on the road: Augie @ St. Norbert and Wheaton @ Wartburg. It could get ugly by the end of the night, although I'd still say that the two CCIW teams should be favored to win on the road.

Millikin's game at Illinois College has been postponed due to bad weather.
