AndOne..... ONU tried a pass to about half court with 3 seconds left and the ball went off an ONU player out of bounds that only took one second off the clock. I believe Trey Bowens was fouled on the next inbound play with 0.9 seconds left. Trey made both free throws and that is how the score ended up 70-66

OK---thanks.
I was just going off the quotes that I highlighted. As that was the only info given at the time, it led me to pose the question I did.

The one-third of the schedule provision was in place when I was an SID in 1994. It's not new.

There must be something I'm missing, then, because I remember the issue in the Sneed Deaderick case back in 2003-04 being that he had played in a bit more than a quarter of DePaul's games during the 2000-01 season, and that that was enough to have his hardship waiver petition denied.

The last two nights have been a fantastic illustration of why I love college basketball. Nobody in the world would've thought that Carthage could lose to East-West after the way that the Red Men cleaned the Phantoms' clocks three weeks ago. And in the wake of last night's disaster, nobody in the world would've thought that Carthage could then turn around and beat an Olivet Nazarene team that, while only 3-6 going into the game, usually is of a caliber equivalent to a top three CCIW team.

I think that K-Mark has it right: Carthage is living on the razor's edge as long as the Red Men are relying so heavily upon the 1-2 perimeter punch of Bowens and Djurickovic. It will be interesting to see if the two of them are freed up a bit and have some pressure taken off of them once sharpshooting Sean Fendley is back in the Red Men lineup in January.

Down 41-40 with twelve minutes to go, Millikin put on a 15-2 run over the next eight minutes to pull away from a pesky Eureka squad that was missing its #1 rebounder and #2 scorer, as the Big Blue won one on the road, 67-55. Tunde Ogunleye had a great game, scoring 23 on 9-11 shooting from the field and 3-5 from downtown, and pulling down five caroms to boot. Robert Rexroade logged a double-double with 11 and 10, John Harmsen had a 10 and 6 night and also dished out five assists while only turning the ball over once, Zach Ott put up 7 and 10 numbers (although he turned the ball over seven times), and Mark Patrick added 6 rebounds to Jimmy Millikin's cause.

The Big Blue bump up their record to 5-1 with the win.

The Carthage site is down, but later someone should figure how many of Steve Djurickovic's points came in the final 10 minutes of the game.  I listened to most of the game last night on ONU's station and it seemed like Djurickovic totally took the game over down the stretch.  ONU led by about 9 points in the 2nd Half and had controlled a good portion of the game before the Red Men made their run.

It seems to me that Bosko's son is going to be a special player...he may already be one.

The great thing about the CCIW this year (even though the league appears to be terribly down) is that every team seem to have significant questions...

Augustana - how will they replace Delp?

Carthage - can they compete night in, night out without that one big horse down low?

Elmhurst - is their guard play good enough?

Illinois Wesleyan - can a team with this many freshmen in the rotation make noise?

Millikin - do they have enough talent up and down the lineup to compete (despite a nice record so far, the Big Blue really haven't been tested)?

North Central - even when Drennan returns, do they have enough depth?

North Park - will they find a low post scoring option?

Wheaton - will they find contributors outside of Raymond, Wiele, and Panner?

At Gate B17 at Midway, heading to Phoenix.  Won't miss Illinois weather for 3 days.

Carthage was down 53-47 with 9:34 to go.  From that point on, Djurickovic scored 13, Bowens 7, and Vukosavljevic 3.

I recall someone on this board reported that the CCIW coaches voted against granting Snead a medical red-shirt year.

Is it correct that CCIW coaches vote on granting medical red-shirts?

I do remember thinking that I presumed voting by coaches was a league rule and that the other coaches wanted to keep NP down because Snead improved significantly in what came to be his last season at NP.

Justin Bertrand also should get some extra court time for Augie with Delp out, but all of the replacements together will not replace Delp's contributions. As someone pointed out it will be up to Washington and the remaining 4 starters to step up their games. Chandlor Collins will see more time as well.

Waller was a good 3 point shooter in the tough Upstate 8 but has seen no varsity minutes this year, as best I can tell from the Augie website. So it might be a stretch to expect him to contribute very much this season. Avallone is a freshman, so I do not expect much from him on a GG team. Unless you're Drew Carstens freshman do not get to much court time at Augie.

Augie's 3 point shooting is way down this year, and even Delp was having trouble getting open looks with only a .342 percentage from 3 point land. Further weakness in the perimyer scoring will really allow opponents to pack it in on defemse against Augie. I think Matt Pelton is the key. He has to provide more scoring and mature at the PG position in short order.

Perhaps Dansand can fill us in on who has excelled in the JV games, as someone will now probably move up to the varsity level, preferably a SG.

Ideally, I'd love to see Keaton Frye, who's averaging about a point a minute in three JV games, get healthy enough to start seeing some varsity minutes, but he's nursing an ankle injury right know. He's been playing with the JV while working his way through some other injury issues and sprained the ankle after scoring 10 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in the first six minutes against St. Ambrose. He was walking on it after that game, so hopefully it's not too bad. I think it would give Augie a huge lift if Keaton was able to give them some minutes at the "3," but I'm not sure it's going to happen real soon.

I think that decisions about medical redshirts come from the commissioner's office, not the league's coaches. While I thought at the time that NPU did have a legitimate shot at getting Sneed eligible, Rees Johnson shouldn't have planned upon having his services. Always plan for the worst!

Augie 36 Cornell 32 at the half. Cornell staying close with six 3 pointers. Mike Avallone getting some playing time. Augie obviously missing Delp on offense.

augiefan

Augie wins 69-56. An ugly win but an important one as the team learns to play without Delp.

augiefan

Mike Avallone got 18, which is a great sign. Great effort for a freshman. Swetalla had 14 and Washington 10. Cornell shot the lights out until the final 6 minutes or so, when Augie took control.

augiefan

For clarification the Augie website shows Keaton Frye with 18 points, but Dansand and the crack Augie broadcasting team kept referring to Mike Avallone as the big scorer. Given that Frye has been hurt, the website must be wrong. Dansand knows his Vikings and wouldn't make a mistake like that. Too bad Keaton isn't healthy enough to have scored 18.
