... silently scraps plans to turn sites into book sales portals ...  :)

Pat,

Read the last few posts again and see if you really think that most of these guys are spending time reading books?????   ::)

It's fun to see Augie ranked 6th in the nation and Mary Hardin-Baylor ranked 7th.  I'm glad they are in different conferences so that I can root for both teams.

Augie has been so consistant over the past few years, they constantly put good teams on the floor and they always play great defense.  I'm not sure about Hardin-Baylor, I'm looking forward to following them this year.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and an awesome New Year

Calling GS..................Where are you?

We're still looking for confirmation of Bruce Durham's status.
Did he even accompany the team to CA?
Illness/Injury? Ineligible?

In the "I'll believe it when I see it" realm, NCC may finally be ready to step foot into this century with regard to indoor athletic facilities.   :o

Note that the article indicates the rec center portion of the plan was approved way back in 2000. Things sure move quickly here in beautiful suburban Napper-ville as we residents like to call it.   :D

My understanding is that once the rec center portion of the project is completed, Merner Fieldhouse (The "Hanger") will undergo renovation in much the same style as many of the new professional  "retro" ballparks where the style is old-time, but with modern conveniences. The rec center is supposed to contain 4 basketball courts and the new indoor track & field facility. The renovated Merner will be used only for men's/women's basketball and volleyball. Permanent theater style seating will be installed on the north side where the risers are now set up and possibly under the baskets at the east and west ends. I'm sure a new ceiling will also be installed. Plans also may include a leveling of the current balcony where coaches offices will be built with picture windows
overlooking the court.

Shouldn't hurt the 'ol recruiting efforts either.   :)

Q, do you know why Brian Nussaum didn't play with the team in Cali?  With all Rose says in this article about needing to get away from rookie mistakes, and wanting to become more mature (my paraphrase of the article), it sure seems like having a senior who's  been around the program with on trips would be a good thing.

Nuss is just trying to get back in basketball shape.  He came into the season having played 24 total minutes in his career as a Titan after basically missing all of the last two years with that shoulder injury.  He started this year by suffering a broken nose and then a concussion, which sidelined him for the entire practice season and first couple weeks of the season.

Brian looked good in the JV game vs Illinois College (not exactly the '96 Rowan Profs) and then struggled a bit vs Wash U's JV.  I know they are evaluating him, and all of the players, at each practice.

Playing time as the 4th post seems to be open (maybe about 7 min./game).  The moment Brian Nussbaum or Edmond O'Callaghan or Jason Bloom makes it's clear they are the guy, I think it's safe to say, they're in.

Well - I'm certainly not GS (I'm better looking, if you discount my thousand chins) - but son Tim and I will be making the pilgrimage to NPU tomorrow afternoon in quest of the Vikings game with Knox - and will seek an answer to your question.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I found some good information on calculating offensive/defensive efficiency.  Obviously the formula = points/possessions.  The tricky part is in determining # of possessions with only the use of a cumulative boxscore.

The official formula for determine total possessions for the season is:

.96* (FGA - Off. Reb. + T.O. + (.475 * FTA))

It is explained here, towards the bottom of the page:

http://www.sportsdiscipline.com/basketball/APBRmetrics.html

Those .96 and .475 multipliers are adjustments made based on college basketball averages.  The only truly accurate way to count possessions would be to manually go through the play-by-play for each game.

Using this formula for possessions, I revised those CCIW offensive/defensive efficiency numbers...

This is excellent stuff. thanks for doing the work Q. It is really intersting and seems to support some of the chat on here about the issues some of the teams are facing. You address IWU's concerns on your blog and as I look at these stats for  the team I root for (hookem Thunder) I see they have a defense that will keep them in most games but need more scoring. That supports the chatter on here that the Thunder better find a 3rd offensive option and/or get into a better scoring offensive flow if they want to compete for the conference title. If these stats hold up during the next couple months Wheaton will likely be looking at a 3rd place finish and will have played most teams close while losing the key games down the stretch without an offensive answer.

Thanks, Dennis.
I'm just so used to seeing GS on here, his absence sticks out.
Just looking for confirmation. Somethings up for sure.

Wheatons Off and Def using the long formula

Offense 1.017  Defense .882
Offense 1.057  Defense .861 ----takeing out the Hope game.

Takeing out the Hope game, which I'm sure will be Wheaton's worst game they play this season, shows Wheaton's numbers to be a little better and probably closer to what they actually are as a team.

Which CCIW team has the best or deepest bench?  Prior to Delp's injury Augustana was strong (perhaps still is), but part of that bench is now starting.

You may wish to differentiate between quality at the top (one or two top reseves who could start) versus overall depth (all are good, but no standouts).

Any word on whether Delp may take an injury redshirt and play next year?

tjcummingsfan

I'd have to say North Park is near the top, the numbers of minutes played on the CCIW stats page has only 1 North Parker in the top 15, which has to indicate some depth, especially at the level the've been playing (most of their games).  I'd bet IWU is up there, Augie of course.  You could probably put anyone in the game with Raymond, Panner and Wiele and be fine at Wheaton, same with Ruch and Burks at Elmhurst, so I don't know if depth for them is even a factor (unless one of them goes down).  Considering Carthage really only has Steve D and Bowens I don't think they can be aprt of the talk, and I really don't know enough about Millikin.
