I agree, Sager guy.  Elmhurst's defense has been inconsistent thus far.  However, they are a little better offensively than they have been in the past.  As much as it is probably driving Coach Scherer crazy, he has to be happy about his offensive weapons, especially when Gershenzon comes back.  Their really tough stretch of the pre-season schedule has passed, and that's a relief to not only the players and fans, but the coaches as well.  With all that said, I'm still skeptical about Elmhurst's chances to contend with IWU, mainly because of Martin's inability to light up IWU the past couple of seasons, and the lack of support good enough to topple IWU in the big games.  Martin does seem to be playing much better this season and the supporting cast seems stronger, maybe this is his year to drop a couple dozen or so on the Titans?

I didn't realize Martin had problems vs IWU.  I just checked some old boxscores.

In Game #1 last year, a 84-62 IWU win in Bloomington, Martin had just 10 points on 4-10 FG.  But if you look at that closer, Martin scored 5 of those points in the final 3:39 in the game, with IWU up 20 points.  Basically, IWU just completely erased him.

At Elmhurst, where IWU won 75-59, Martin had just 13 points on 3-12 FG.  The game was 40-39 IWU at halftime, but the Titans held Martin to 2 points in the 2nd half!  And those 2 points were FT's in the final minute with IWU up 17!

Martin's junior year was more of the same - 12 pts @ IWU and 10 pts at home.  IWU won both.

How exactly does IWU defend Chris Martin and have so much success??  It looks to me like somehow they significantly minimize his FG attempts.

Augiedad,

I believe it was his sophmore year of eligbility in 03-04. Remeber he left for a year.

As for him not playing well against IWU, I can offer some evidence against that. Yes the last two years he has not performed well against IWU. If you look back to his freshman year here he dropped 17 at IWU on 7-11 shooting, and in what was the last time EC beat IWU he dropped 30 at our place on them on 11-18 shooting. I know IWU was down a little that year but we'll take what we can get. I'm hoping he will have some success against IWU this year.

Kmark-guy,

Sorry to hurt your feelings by my earlier comments, I didn't realize you were in denial about SOME players at Carthage.  Before you go into another tantrum, let's just wait and see what happens.  Then, when I'm wrong you can strike me down all you want.

TBF -guy,

I'm trying to understand your post so lets give this a whirl once more....I'm willing to play with you a little bit longer if you are willing to answer my questions?

How did my post come across as a tantrum?  I asked you a couple of questions and suggested that you not make remarks about the player's off court activity unless you have some way to substantiate your comments.

Secondly, how am I in denial?   I don't know of anyone being ineligble on the team.  I would be the first to admit I don't know anything going on off the court so if you do, please share that with the class.

Since you brought up Bowens, what is it we should know?   Yes, he was ineligble last year but I give the young man alot of credit for staying in school and now being able to play this year, and quite well I might add.

Lastly, I found your final comment quite amusing - you basically are telling me you expect to be wrong.  You used the word "when" not "if".

All I'm trying to get across to you is why do you need to take shots at these young men about things I really don't think you have any knowledge of?  You seem to know enough about the game so stick to that !!!  Maybe it will help bring your karma up!!!!

Happy Holidays !

Some notes on the IWU/Wash U. contest Saturday, including a link to  Wash U's game program...

http://www.iwuhoops.com/PREVIEWS.HTM

I saw Wash U. play Blackburn this week - Blackburn is very weak so it was hard to really gauge the Bears, but they look like a very solid basketball team to me.  They have a dangerous 3-point threat in 6-1 guard Scott Stone (12.5 ppg), a very good post player in 6-6/225 Troy Ruths (18.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg), a nice freshman small forward in 6-6 Tyler Nading (10.0 ppg, 4.4 rpg), and then of course 7-footer Mike Grunst (12.0 ppg, 7.1 rpg).  Freshman point-guard Sean Wallis from Glenbrook North H.S., last year's Class AA state champ, plays a lot of minutes off the bench.

Both of Wash U's losses were on opening weekend.  The Bears  must not have played particularly well in their loss to Simpson 11/19, but the night before that they played a small college powerhouse, Robert Morris-Chicago, to 3 points at the Platteville tourney.  (Robert Morris won at Platteville by 6 and won at Hanover by 8.)  Since then it has been all W's for Wash U, but against a pretty weak slate (Webster, @ Claremont Mudd-Scripps, @ Pomona Pitzer, U. of Dallas, Wisconsin Lutheran).

If this game were at the Shirk Center, I'd like IWU by 15+.  In St. Louis, I think this has potential to be a good game.  Having seen Chicago and Wash U., I'd guess the Bears will finish higher than the Maroons in this year's UAA race...and Chicago gave IWU all it wanted.  Being rated #1, you're not going to sneak up on anyone...Wash U's guys will be ready to go just like Chicago's were.

How many of you knew that this was coming?  :D

Millikin's game at Eureka this evening was postponed on account of weather, and has not yet been rescheduled.

There we have it citizens. The D3 Master has spoken from up on high. The only question now is how much more obvious can one be ??

Roop, I'm not really sure what you're getting at.  I thought the statement was a reference to the fact that IWU ran into a charged up, very focused Chicago team 5 days ago (a Chicago team much more focused vs IWU than vs Wheaton a few days before that per their head coach on Hoopsville this week) and nearly got knocked off.

Your post is odd.

K,

I have a tendency to dramatize other people's posts, like yours for instance.  I hope you can forgive for this terrible incident (ooops, I'm doing it again!).

I don't know for sure if anybody will become ineligible.  I do know that the chance is there and that's based on history and my knowledge gained from reliable sources that know some of these players.  I'll leave it at that.

Merry Christmas!

Sag,

I view the season (at least the part that really counts) as the conference season.  That's probably why I referred to it as the pre-season, maybe I should have said "pre-conference season".

Just came across an UNBELIEVABLE stat line.  Ray Vicario and Adam Teising of North Central thru 4 games this season have combined for 39 assists and only 3 turnovers.  That is freaking crazy good.  The team has only 37 total in 4 games.

What do that matchups look like this weekend...i know Augie is down in River Forest playing against Concordia.  I would predict a win from them by 14...what else do we have around the CCIW?

Milliken vs Eureka cancelled last night.. Game has not been rescheduled yet.
